Voting Question: Dental Implants, Is doing the bone grafting and the implant in the same visit ok? I am assuming so.?
(Thu, 01 Sep 2011 12:42:14 GMT)
9/2 will be my extraction for tooth #18. A tooth has fractured in half, infection occurred. I got 2 opinions originally, two different surgeons. Both stated the extraction surgery was not difficult. The 2nd choice surgeon I am going with said actually it makes his job actually easier that the root cracked in half, but how so? why would that be? #18 also has a crown on it. How do they or what is the process for removal since it is not a full original tooth that is being extracted like a wisdom

Resolved Question: best way to get my health insurance to cover something not normally covered under my plan?
(Mon, 08 Aug 2011 14:19:30 GMT)
Or so they say. My daughter needs bone grafting done to her jaw for dental implants. If she was born with a condition which caused her to have some missing teeth, and thi si congenital, what is a good argument for the insurance company to have them pay for at least some of the cost of the bone grafting and sinus lift?
mbkatz, I understand implants are not covered. Regardless, the need for mastication and then swallowing is necessary for functioning. What of the surgery done to add bone to th

Resolved Question: I have a very mean French teacher and health issues, can you give me any advice?
(Mon, 30 May 2011 22:57:39 GMT)
Okay, my French teacher used to be so nice and outgoing with me, but now everything's different.
What's led up to this:
I have always had medical problems throughout my life, mainly surgeries, allergies, complications from my celiac disease, ear infections and severe asthma attacks. But, now, since I've gotten older, I've had more problems. In 2009, I had surgery to remove a benign osteochondroma (bone tumor) from my right ankle & a bone graft to replace the diseased bone, then I had a sev

Resolved Question: want help with my niece's health?
(Tue, 23 Feb 2010 17:05:45 GMT)
my 6-y-old niece had an accident 2 months ago where her left hand had striked some branch or kind of a thing when she put her hand out of the bus and got her hand injured very seriously. the skin from her elbow down to the wrist had gone torn causing major loss of flesh and blood exposing the bone, luckily not damaging the main nerve (ulnar nerve). since then, she has undergone 2 surgeries where the first one consisted of stitching the entire torn skin along with blood transfusions, saline, et

Resolved Question: What possible problems would I face if I don't go to physical therapy?
(Sat, 19 Dec 2009 04:40:56 GMT)
I had an accident and shattered the L-1 vertebrae and cracked the L-2 vertebrae in my back. Large bone fragments entered the spinal canal putting pressure on the cord.
I had reconstructive surgery, rods, plates, screws, and a bone graft from my hip. My health insurance had increased to $1,100.00 per month and I had to drop it for lack of funds. 2 weeks later I had this accident. To date, my bills are in excess of $150,000.00.
I have "at home" exercises to do, but wouldn't it be best to hav

Voting Question: Car Accident Insurance Claim Help.. What to expect?
(Sun, 13 Dec 2009 16:28:48 GMT)
I was involved in a car accident last year on the 5 freeway(california). I was the passenger in my girlfriend's car and she had NO car insurance at the time of the accident. She was 100% at fault. She made an improper lane change and lost control. So I end up in the ER and I had no health or car insurance at the time. with 2 fractures to the lumbar section of my spine (back brace 3months), a non-union fracture to my wrist (scaphoid) that I later had to have surgery on to implant a 28mm screw a

Resolved Question: Would it be feasible to graft metal onto a person's entire skeleton like X-Men's Wolverine?
(Fri, 20 Nov 2009 00:24:56 GMT)
People get emergency surgeries where one or more pieces of metal are implanted to hold a bone together, or cover an empty spot in the skull, etc. Some people even have entire bones replaced with titanium replacements if need be.
So, what would be the process to go through if a person of average or athlete level health wanted a high quality metal grafted onto their bones to become nigh-invincible? What about the joints? Would it be just pieces of metal, or could you coat the entire bone struct

Resolved Question: Cancer and No insurance?
(Thu, 08 Oct 2009 04:00:23 GMT)
My father is a small business owner who struggled financially enough in the last 2 years that he had to cancel his insurance. Now, over a year after he canceled his insurance he has been diagnosed with cancer. It is for sure in his jaw, and the doctor's worry that it may have metastasized to other bones.
He needs surgery to remove the cancer from his jaw and harvest and graft bone from his hip and/or forearm.
Does anyone know of any programs that may be of assistance? His business took

Voting Question: How do I know if my dental bone graft is healing properly or if it has failed?
(Wed, 26 Aug 2009 18:23:39 GMT)
I was born without a number of permanent teeth, luckily all in the back of my mouth. In order to prepare for four dental implants, my oral surgeon said I needed to get bone grafts in those four areas due to the lack of supporting bone. I had the procedure done Monday, August 17 (nine days ago) in areas 3, 14, 19, and 30 with bovine material. I was told I would be able to return to work by Friday after having some pain and maybe swelling.
The remainder of surgery day wasn't bad, groggy from th

Resolved Question: Failed dental implant after 18 months, 2 bone grafts and $6000 costs!?
(Sat, 15 Aug 2009 15:23:08 GMT)
Last year I broke my tooth on a popcorn. Since it cracked in 3 ways and broke the root, it was beyond saving.
After numerous consultations and a research on the internet I've decided for a dental implant. 3 of 4 general dentists recommended this one guy saying he's one of the best.
He pulled the tooth and added the implant the very same day. I was going for check ups every 2 weeks, later every month, etc...you get the picture. After 4 months I got the crown. Everything looked peachy until thi

Resolved Question: upper jaw surgery question?
(Mon, 25 May 2009 05:25:50 GMT)
I had my upper jaw moved forward, to correct an under bite, over a year ago. The sugery was unsuccessful. My bone didn't fuse with the plates. So I underwent a second surgery in December. The surgeon removed the plates and replaced them with smaller ones and took bone from my hip for bone grafting. He gave me a clean bill of health and told me to go ahead and start eating normal last month. My bite feels pretty solid except for my front teeth. My front teeth are slightly mobile when I try to m

Resolved Question: dont pay attention to this!?
(Wed, 16 Apr 2008 13:44:56 GMT)
Organ and Tissue Transplants
Modern techniques of medical transplantation—surgically removing a diseased or malfunctioning kidney, heart, or other organ, and replacing it with a healthy organ from a donor—has brought new life and new hope to patients who, just a few generations ago, would have died. But the practice has also raised significant ethical questions. One such question centers on the cold reality of supply versus demand: At any moment, there are upwards of 150,000 people in the worl

Resolved Question: Teeth, Gums, Better Oral Health????
(Fri, 21 Dec 2007 18:48:46 GMT)
Hi, I've read many answers on this site about receding gums and proper brushing techniques as well as searching the web but i havn't got the answers i was looking for. I am a teenager who has worn braces for about 5 year, has slight reccesion on the lower front/side teeth, one molar with the inside gum reaching the bone, I have a couple of small fillings at the back chewing surfaces and acid erosion on the front teeth. I brush my teeth 2/3 times a day after meals but i don't understand why my

Resolved Question: I need help loosing weight. I am a male I'm 190 lbs and five four.?
(Wed, 31 Oct 2007 02:22:37 GMT)
It's weird because it doesn't look like i'm that heavy but when i went to the doctors for a check up it showed that i am that heavy. It's hard for me to loose weight because i had an operation in january this year in my hip. I had a tumor removed that was inside of my left femur. there is a synthetic bone graft and a metal fixture in my leg and while it's not as bad as it used to be there is still some pain that makes it hard to walk let alone jog. I want to find a way for me to loose weig

Resolved Question: Are there any health risks from a synthetic bone graft after tooth extraction?
(Tue, 30 Oct 2007 01:58:54 GMT)
I just had a tooth extracted and did a bone graft immediately following to prepare for a future implant. She told me she used synthetic materials for the bone graft which has me a little concerned. What is a synthetic bone graft made of? Is it silicone and if so isn't that harmful to the body?

Resolved Question: Dental implant - is it worth it???
(Mon, 07 May 2007 21:23:57 GMT)
I was told this morning that after filings, a root canal, and several crowns that my upper second molar (15) can not be saved anymore. I have had a realtively healthy mouth except for this tooth, but I am congenitally missing my upper first molars so the loss of this tooth would leave me molarless on the top left.
Is that really an issue? The only option I have been given is an implant that would require both bone grafting and a sinus lift as well as cost me $6000 out of pocket (that is with

Resolved Question: Wife needs APICOECTOMY, Bone grafts, Endodontics.?
(Tue, 06 Mar 2007 23:08:42 GMT)
She has infection in the bone supporting her 6 upper front teeth. My dental insurance covers only $1000 per patient per year. I have been quoted a cost of over $8000 for the procedure to remove infection, and graft bone. The Endodontist will not bill my Health Insurance company. If I get a letter of Medical Necessity is it possible that they will cover it? Should I take her to a regular doctor for evaluation and the letter? Please, any input would be appreciated.
