What is Cleft Lip And Palate?
Cleft lip and cleft palate are birth defects that affect the upper lip and roof of the mouth. They happen when the tissue that forms the roof of the mouth and upper lip don't join before birth. The problem can range from a small notch in the lip to a groove that runs into the roof of the mouth and nose. This can affect the way the child's face looks. It can also lead to problems with eating, talking and ear infections.
Treatment usually is surgery to close the lip and palate. Doctors often do this surgery in several stages. Usually the first surgery is during the baby's first year. With treatment, most children with cleft lip or palate do well.

I want to drop a dress size or two, but I have several health problems including a double cleft lip and palate that make it really difficult to eat a wide variety of foods. I only really eat chips, toast, crackers and yoghurt. My sister in law had a baby about 2 months ago who has a cleft lip and palate. I'm not aware of the severity as she lives overseas and I haven't seen any pictures. The baby (a boy) is having trouble gaining weight and surgeons won't operate to correct the clefts until he is healthy enough. He is also getting sick often. I'm assuming he's having trouble feeding and therefore not getting adequate nutrients so his immune system is weak. They live in Iraq, so as you can imagine the health resource

I really don't like my nose and so have been looking into getting a rhinoplasty (nose job). I wanted to see if my health plan covered it although I assumed it wouldn't. I'm 19 and was born with a cleft lip and palate, but was wondering if there may still be a place that would accept an egg donation. I know the rules are very strict, but surely there is SOME kind of clinic that would still want a donor despite those things. The chances of me passing it on are slim to NONE, and other wise I'm in perfect health.

My nephew was just born and he has some health problems. I haven't been given that much info but this is what i do know, he has a cleft palate he doesn't have a cleft lip and an enlarged liver. Can someone explain about the liver and what might be wrong?

A CLEFT LIP AND PALATE. BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD SAID IT WAS A "PER-EXISTING CONDITIOIN" AN WOULD NOT COVER HER.SO NOW SHE IS TAGGED AS HAVING A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION WHEN SHE IN FACT DID NOT, SHE WAS JUST UNFORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE BORN THIS WAY. I PAY TWO INSURANCES OURS AT ABOUT 350 PER MONTH AND MY 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS AT ABOUT 140 PER MONTH.................I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

My family and I (husband and 2 kids) have moved quite a bit. We have lived in 4 different States. One of the reasons why we have moved is because of health reasons. Me having health issues, my two kids born with abnormalitiess.
This is the first whole year that we have been on welfare and it has been really hard. My little boy was born with a cleft lip palate and will have surgery in September. That is one of the reasons why I have not been able to go back to work.

Here is my situation, my wife and I have a 19 month old daughter who was born with a cleft lip & palate, she's had two facial surgeries already and ofcourse will need more surgeries and health care. Our "cleft team" is located in New Orleans and we live in southern Mississippi. My son was born with cleft lip/palate, which is the most common birth defect in the nation. Although it seems that getting ssi/medicaid may be impossible because he is not disabled enough. He has a speech impairment that he thank god gets speech therapy for at school. He also has a learning disability that has been a great challenge for him and our family. Not to bash the school they do a great job but he needs much more than they can give him. We recently were getting help at a facility
