Eating disorders are serious behavior problems. They include
- Anorexia nervosa, in which you become too thin, but you don't eat enough because you think you are fat
- Bulimia nervosa, involving periods of overeating followed by purging, sometimes through self-induced vomiting or using laxatives
- Binge-eating, which is out-of-control eating
Women are more likely than men to have eating disorders. They usually start in the teenage years and often occur along with depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse.
Eating disorders can cause heart and kidney problems and even death. Getting help early is important. Treatment involves monitoring, mental health therapy, nutritional counseling and sometimes medicines.

So since I was in 5th grade my schools have had me constantly see guidance consulars because of personal problems&school, etc. A couple years ago, I told one of my guidance consulars that I wanted to kill myself& that I've been so depressed and she knew it about way before that day but after that happened the school forced my parents to have me get mentally evaluated at a mental health clinic and I did go. They told my mom a lot of possibilities but like always, she didn't want to hear it & bot

Open Question: Is there a way to get REM Sleep with Severe Sleep Apnea & Narcolepsy/Cataplexy?
(Mon, 13 Feb 2012 20:07:22 GMT)
My husband has SEVERE Sleep Apnea and Narcolepsy. In his sleep studies, he wasn't having any REM sleep at all until his third sleep machine - the VPAP. Now, he gets about 20 minutes of REM in a 5 1/2 hour night sleep and no REM during his naps. He sleeps 5 1/2 hours at night like clockwork, wakes up, takes his 3 Provigil, eats toast and 1/2 hour later can't stay awake for anything. He's out cold for 3 hours (with no REM). His daytime sleep test for Narcolepsy show that he falls asleep with

Open Question: Question about mental health?
(Mon, 13 Feb 2012 12:56:03 GMT)
Hello, Since I was young, I've suffered from extremely severe anxiety, which grew to depression and anorexia when I turned 12, ( I'm 17 now) and theyve lead to other serious mental health issues. We recently moved house, about 3 months ago, and since then, I've been grieving over our old house. I'll go past it on daily runs, get shaky when we drive past the street, ect. Before that, we moved 3 hours away from my previous life, taking me away from my boyfriend, school and friends. I began to d

Open Question: Is it bad to exaggerate on your college essays?
(Mon, 13 Feb 2012 06:07:49 GMT)
I'm petitioning to join the honors college at a university and there's this one prompt that says to list any "challenges" that might have interfered with your academics... I really had trouble thinking of any reasons, and the reasons that I did come up with were really personal. Last year I went on this crazy diet where I would eat around 600 calories per day; I don't want to say I was anorexic or anything but something was up with my mind where I kept thinking about food but didn't want to ea

I tell them obviously because I am fine, I go to the gym, I go swimming everyday there is nothing the matter with me.

I am studying eating disorders in a health class. Victims say they stop eating or eat one meal a day consisting of toast, soup, or rice. People say if they stop eating or hardly eating you won't loose weight or fat, but how do over months they turn up really thin and gaunty and weigh under 90 lbs if your body stores fat?

I figured I'd ask on here and see if anybody knew anything. I grind my teeth a lot at night and have symptoms similar to TMJ disorder. A dentist specializing in this x-rayed my jaw joints and said nothing was wrong with them. He made me a mouth guard to sleep in and told me to exercise and work on stress management. I do at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day and I just bought a book that showed me a few stretches for my head/back/neck muscles. Shoulder rolls, shrugs, head roll, stuff l

Today in the United Sates obesity has become a vast problem. In the last two decades , the number of people overweight has increased dramatically. America might be the richest but also the most obese nation in the world The 1980s were a time when Americans suddenly started going crazy over dieting, jumping onto the treadmills, and buying prepackaged non-fat foods. However, while all of that was going on, the number of obese Americans began to increase. The eating habits of United States had be

Resolved Question: What's the difference between residential, inpatient, outpatient and short stay treatment.?
(Sat, 28 Jan 2012 03:04:37 GMT)
Just wondering because I think my parents are suspicious that I have an eating disorder. Personally i dont think I do but what my parents say goes. (I'm 11) I just want to know what to expect if they come to the conclusion that I'm screwed in the head. I'm not sick I'm just trying to be more health conscious. Ugggg why am I defending myself from people I don't know and who haven't judged me…yet(most informative answer will be chosen for best answer)
