What is Ehlers-danlos Syndrome?
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of inherited disorders that weaken connective tissues. Connective tissues are proteins that support skin, bones, blood vessels and other organs.
EDS usually affects your skin, joints and blood vessel walls. Symptoms include
- Loose joints
- Fragile, small blood vessels
- Abnormal scar formation and wound healing
- Soft, velvety, stretchy skin that bruises easily
There are several types of EDS. They can range from mild to life-threatening. About 1 in 5,000 people has EDS. There is no cure. Treatment involves managing symptoms. It also includes learning how to protect your joints and prevent injuries.

Resolved Question: can i request testing for genetic disease myself?
(Sat, 03 Dec 2011 23:17:03 GMT)
i have been experiencing numerous health related problems over the past 7 or 8 years and they all seem to be associated with a certain hereditary disease which i am almost convinced runs in my somewhat estranged large family. I am the eldest member of my generation within the family and aged 32. The next ascending relation/sibling/family member is my sister and there are 4 years between us and then the next ascending relative is my male cousin and there are 10 years between him and I and then

Resolved Question: Where to start with becoming a Computer Professional?
(Fri, 23 Sep 2011 00:16:31 GMT)
Im a single parent with a degenerative connective tissue syndrome. (Ehlers Danlos syndrome) I worked for 13 years until two years ago when my body finally wouldnt allow me to go out to work anymore. I hate not being able to work and have always had a big interest in computers, electronics and dismantling/repairing most things as a personal hobby. I think that this interest is my only hope of being able to work for the rest of my life since it seems that I am going to be restricted by my health

Voting Question: I want to start trying for a baby, but my husband says "not right now"?
(Tue, 13 Sep 2011 12:25:16 GMT)
I had a miscarriage back in '08 (before I knew my husband) when I was 17years old.. I was about 8 weeks pregnant. That was hard enough as it was... I am now 21. July 3rd 2011 I had another miscarriage. I was about 7 weeks pregnant then (by my husband of course). The pregnancy wasn't planned but once I told him he was SO excited. Before he would always say kids will wait. But when he found out I was pregnant he just lit up. He also told me that he has been thinking about wanting a baby for mon

Resolved Question: Can I stay on my parent's health insurance if I go to graduate school and am 26?
(Fri, 10 Jun 2011 16:17:22 GMT)
I am about to turn 26, I have a ton of slightly serious health problems (arthritis, polycystic kidneys, polycystic ovarian syndrome, ankylosing spondylitis, ehlers-danlos). I have a lot of prescriptions and chronic pain, I have at least one appointment somewhere every week. I have been on my mom's insurance and am absolutely terrified of losing insurance.
I am going to attend graduate school full-time this fall. For some reason I can't find ANY information on whether or not I would be all

Resolved Question: I keep thinking my uterus ruptured because I have some genetic syndrome.PLEASE HELP ME.PLEASE GOING CRAZY?
(Wed, 23 Feb 2011 16:27:44 GMT)
it ruptured at 36 wks and I had had no surgeries nothing earlier. Other than that I am healthy and fit and have never had any health problems. This was the first thing that happened. I am 32 yrs old.
I keep worrying about this tooooo much. The doctors I asked said first of all those syndromes are genetic and even in sporadic new cases, there would be manifestations from a younger age.
Next they say that uterine rupture is not as rare as syndromes like ehlers danlos vascular type etc.
So I am

Resolved Question: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome - Hypermobility Type?
(Thu, 27 May 2010 00:04:20 GMT)
I've dealt with chronic pain for the last four years as a combined result of a terrible cheerleading accident and inherent hypermobility. They way I landed in the accident should've broken my spine, but I miraculously survived. I've had surgery on my shoulder to repair a torn labrum, had dozens of facet and SI joint injections, and have had two RFAs on my C3, 3rd occipital, and C4. I talked to my doctor yesterday about the possibility of the hypermobility being a symptom of EDS, and he was

Resolved Question: My american government current event?
(Mon, 09 Mar 2009 06:39:58 GMT)
WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (CNN) -- For Doug Pegram, it is on the one hand simple math: His medical bills cost roughly $300 a month and a health insurance policy would cost $550.
"Two or three hundred dollars goes a long way," Pegram said. Especially when you are living on unemployment benefits.
Simple math, and a huge gamble: Pegram has a rare disorder, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, that in some patients can be life-threatening.
"If anything happens, that's another story," Pegram told us. "Bu

Resolved Question: Is it true that getting sick a lot as a kid can cause you to be paranoid about your health?
(Fri, 16 Jan 2009 10:24:39 GMT)
I've heard that before. My mom said that when I was little, I was always sick. She said that I got a lot of fevers and I would also have vomiting episodes and dizzy spells. I'm 20 now, and I've been diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). That's why I always had vomiting episodes and dizzy spells. Anyway, I have extremely bad OCD, expecially when it comes to my health. I've been paranoid ever since I was really young. I'm even more paranoid now. I was also diagnos

Resolved Question: I sleep with my eyes partially open .....?
(Sat, 30 Jun 2007 06:12:18 GMT)
I sleep with my eyes partially open. I blink and such like I would when I am awake. Does anyone know if this is harmful or if I should ask my Doc. about it. I have done this since I was a baby, and 2 of my children sleep like this also. So, I am wondering about nay health effects it may have. We also suffer from Ehlers Danlos syndrome ( a connective tissue disorder) and have never thought to ask about it. Does anyone know anything about this? Do you sleep like that? Or no people who do?
