A fall can change your life. If you're elderly, it can lead to disability and a loss of independence. If your bones are fragile from osteoporosis, you could break a bone, often a hip. But aging alone doesn't make people fall. Diabetes and heart disease affect balance. So do problems with circulation, thyroid or nervous systems. Some medicines make people dizzy. Eye problems or alcohol can be factors. Any of these things can make a fall more likely. Babies and young children are also at risk of falling - off of furniture and down stairs, for example.
Falls and accidents seldom "just happen." Taking care of your health by exercising and getting regular eye exams and physicals may help reduce your chance of falling. Getting rid of tripping hazards in your home and wearing nonskid shoes may also help. To reduce the chances of breaking a bone if you do fall, make sure that you get enough calcium and vitamin D.

Open Question: Hypothetically if republicans got their way and ended entitlements/welfare?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 21:24:37 GMT)
And in a few years the baby boomers start retiring and young people today replace them in the labor market. Wouldn't Occupy Wall Street and the TEA party switch places? Young people start yelling keep taxes low and no more entitlements because the taxpayer burden would fall on them. Old people start complaining about the soaring cost of health care and lack of welfare because they would need it more. Wouldn't the very same conservatives that are complaining about universal healthcare being sh

I found my bunnie dead yesterday and i have no idea why he died all of a sudden. He hasn't seemed sick at all no runny nose or watery eyes. He did have an unbalanced problem so when he would try to Stand up in the cage he would just fall backwards and have a little bit of a struggle getting back up from his side. one of his legs or his foot seemed like he couldn't put any pressure on it. he didn't always have this problem however...sometime last year he jumped off of something and he would usu

Open Question: Liberals and democrats only: What are your disappointments with Obama?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 19:39:00 GMT)
I only want to get a liberal or democrat's opinion of obama, not a right winger who is going to say the same old crap every time(if this happens i will delete your response) I am a big liberal in my own right and i have four main disappointments: 1. the stimulus: it worked in that it prevented major job losses, a major downturn in the economy, and made smart investments in clean energy but if the funding was used more wisely the economy would be better today. i felt that too little was spent

Open Question: what rights does the state department of health have with physicly disabled people?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 18:56:07 GMT)
I live in Indiana. I am curious about the state department of health. I have been told because of my interest in this subject time and time again that a person can not be held against their will without a court order for more than 72 hours, and that must be for observation at a hospital. They may refuse medication and treatment even if confined to a hospital, and that in the event they live at home, they have the right to make their own decisions as long as they aren't mentally incompitent. I

Open Question: strange pains in feet?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 15:59:05 GMT)
So I skateboard and have been for 10 years or so. Back in september I just started having pains directly in the middle of my foot. Not sure what's causing it I never fell on it or did anything to notice it. I was told it could be plantar-fascitis (not sure if that's spelled correctly) I tried icing my feet, rolling a can of food under it to massage the arch of my foot but haven't noticed any real progress it still hurts on and off. Sometimes I can skate and it's perfectly fine and sometimes it

Open Question: Treatments for anxiety other than medication?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 08:34:38 GMT)
I suffer from anxiety and I was diagnosed when I was 14 with it. I'm not sure if it is all that serious, but I tend to get depressed and anxious easily. I don't think of suicide or anything, and I still go to work and talk with my friends. I recently got into a fight with a bunch of friends and lost a lot of them though, a certain incident happened but also a lot of them have "moved on" and I don't see them as often so I am depressed and lonely. Now I am generally having feelings of "never ma

Open Question: Have you seen a vampire?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 08:29:34 GMT)
When I was 6 years old my parents had a dentist file my eye teeth down, because they protruded over my lip. They said I looked evil. Over my youth there were a few times when I asked myself if there were vampires and on occasion thought I may have caught the tiniest glimpse of them. There were a couple of times where I became spooked. I had a period in my life where I was fighting a lot at my high school, and was afraid of the bigger kids hurting me, and I used to day dream about biting onto

Open Question: When will Obama stop pretending to be Reagan?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 05:40:39 GMT)
I don't get it. First liberals slam Ronald Reagan and claim Reaganomics failed, even though it gave us the longest peacetime economic growth in our history. Now they try to paint him as the next Reagan. Ronald Reagan didn't use class warfare rhetoric and threaten to make the rich pay their "fair share," even though they pay more taxes than anyone else in the country. "What is so striking about Obamanomics is how it so doggedly pursues the opposite of every one of these planks of Reaganomics.

(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 05:38:52 GMT)
Yemen has no minimum age for marriage, and girls as young as 8 are often forced to marry. Many become mothers soon after they reach puberty. The country has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world. The death of a 12 year old in childbirth this fall highlighted the health risks. Child brides and young mothers are most vivid manifestations of how tribal doctrines prevail over modern attitudes in the Middle East's poorest country ... Faiha Ahmed, 18, got married two years ago

I have a strange fascination with sex. I wonder if my mental health causes it. I think about things and fantasize all the time. Isome days I can't even function well. Open Question: Is there a way to get REM Sleep with Severe Sleep Apnea & Narcolepsy/Cataplexy?

Now, he gets about 20 minutes of REM in a 5 1/2 hour night sleep and no REM during his naps. He sleeps 5 1/2 hours at night like clockwork, wakes up, takes his 3 Provigil, eats toast and 1/2 hour later can't stay awake for anything. He's out cold for 3 hours (with no REM). Open Question: Obamacare experts -- is urinalysis at a routine annual physical no longer considered "preventative"?

I'm trying to figure out whether my insurance company is just taking me for a ride. I had a routine annual physical this fall, with exactly the same routine blood and urine tests my doctor has always performed. I have exactly the same (very expensive) insurance I did last time around. But this time, my doctor sent me bills for the blood work and urinalysis, saying they weren't covered! I called my insurance company, and they said that under the new Obama health care plan, those routine test

Resolved Question: Have the Bishops gone too far?
(Mon, 13 Feb 2012 13:48:46 GMT)
Although major Catholic groups like Catholic Charities and Catholic Health Services accepted the Obama revision that they do not have to provide for free contraception as the woman's right demands, their insurance pays instead under the revision; the bishops are holding out for more. But their crusade to be exempted from the mandate is likely to fall short of its grail. If so, it's because Obama read the Catholic flock better than its shepherds did. Have the Bishops lost their flocks?

Long story short, the FDA claims it is dangerous and toxic, yet bamboo is what Koala Bears live on, many people of many different countries eat these seeds and are perfectly fine and healthy. I don't like my sister and I haven't liked her for years, since she was in her early teens and dumped her friends for being 'geeks' and hanging out with popular kids, who were horrible to everyone. She's the kind of person that laughs when a small child cries after falling over. I know that's funny for some people, but to laugh at a small child's pain just seems pretty pathetic and spiteful to me. She demands to have whatever she wants and then threatens suicide when she doesn't get it. One
