If you have ever had athlete's foot or a yeast infection, you can blame a fungus. A fungus is actually a primitive vegetable. Mushrooms, mold and mildew are examples. Fungi live in air, in soil, on plants and in water. Some live in the human body. Only about half of all types of fungi are harmful.
Some fungi reproduce through tiny spores in the air. You can inhale the spores or they can land on you. As a result, fungal infections often start in the lungs or on the skin. You are more likely to get a fungal infection if you have a weakened immune system or take antibiotics.
Fungi can be difficult to kill. For skin and nail infections, you can apply medicine directly to the infected area. Oral antifungal medicines are also available for serious infections.

Open Question: betta with white gills?
(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 03:07:04 GMT)
Betta with white belly and white gills - fungal infection or ammonia poisoning? I got my betta fish about a month ago. He was pure blue. Now hes lost most of the blue color in his head and his body. His fins are still blue though. I wasn't too worried about the color fade from his head and body, as I believe that's not a big issue. However, his stomach has turned white in the past two weeks. And his gills are white too. I know all about betta fish and their health and food issues etc. I do not

Resolved Question: Oil of oregano could possibly help you pass drug tests?
(Sun, 12 Feb 2012 05:07:54 GMT)
So this shit can be used for alot of stuff and it seems to me like it just cleans out everything it comes in contact with and effectively gets it out of your body in a way. I have recently been put in a situation where i will be drug tested a couple times in the next year and I'm already aware of the usual techniques to clean yourself out as fast as possible but i was thinking maybe ingesting a bunch of this stuff could be added to the routine. I'm mostly worried about urine drug tests but i

Voting Question: Can soaking your nails in acetone cause them to detach from the nailbed?
(Wed, 25 Jan 2012 04:39:19 GMT)
I recently began doing my own manicures at home, applying tips and a gel coating overtop. I have found many warning regarding fungal infections if you allow a space between your natural nail and the false tip, so make it a point to not let that happen; however this week I noticed that my natural nail tip has gone down into the area that is normally pink, or the nail bed area... This concerns me, and I have read information on pitted nails and possible health concerns... My question is, since I

Resolved Question: Itchy groin area, reddish, feels bumpy. What is it?
(Mon, 23 Jan 2012 04:03:29 GMT)
-Information- The other morning I woke up and my groin area was quite itchy, I proceeded throughout the day not really giving it a second thought and kept scratching it. Later that night, it kind of hit me that it's abnormally itchy. I pulled my pants down to see that the whole area was reddish and bumpy. I'm a sixteen year old male. My penis is not affected. The affected area is basically all the skin that would be touching my boxer-briefs, with the exception of by butt-cheeks and front of th

She does not tilt her head and appeared normal other then the ear. Her ear was in so much pain that the vet had to sedate her in order to examine and clean. There was no sign of mites but we treated for that anyways. She received a shot of the ivermectin and was given antibiotics...a

Resolved Question: Can someone consume alcohol alongside terbinafine medication?

Currently on terbinafine tablets- 250mg daily- for a fungal nail infection, and have been for a few months. What risk would I be at if I drunk alcohol in conjunction to this? I had to have a liver-function test prior to being given the prescription, so I wondered whether alcohol would impact health. I've read the information sheet contained within the packaging, and there's no mention of alcohol, but I just wanted to be safe. Please, if you don't know for certain, don't say anything- the

Hi. Sorry to be so graphic so if you're squeamish look away now! I have had this problem once last year but it cleared up on its own, now its back again. Above my anus up to the top of my gluteal cleft the skin is red and inflamed. If I part the cheeks to examine it I can smell the clear discharge which it tends to leak, and its an odd smell. I've not been to the doctors yet, I know its silly but its an embarrassing issue and I'm also not sure if I need to go if its just fungal as I don't wa

Resolved Question: Is Marbofloxacin/Clotrimazole Ear Drops Ok for Kittens?
(Tue, 13 Dec 2011 19:35:48 GMT)
My kitten has ringworm. It's all around her head. The fungal/yeast infection is also inside her ears. The vet gave me oral itraconazole liquid for her to take with her food, and clotrimazole cream to rub on her head, but he didn't give me anything to put on the inside of her ears. The inside of her ears look really disgusting, clearly a yeast/fungal infection, but I read online that you should NOT put clotrimazole cream in a cat's ears. I found an ear drop medicine in my local pet shop that

Resolved Question: Male Fungal Infection turned to blisters or what??? I am scared...?

So a week and a half ago I first noticed a rash forming on my inner foreskin and a little on my penis head. I went to the health center at my school and the doctor said it was some fungal infection as I thought. She gave me a cream Miconazole Nitarte 2% and told my to put of the infected areas once a day, that was 4 days ago, now it seems there is less red and less rash on my foreskin but I think I may have gotten an allergic reaction to the cream because part of my penis head turned red and a

I then began bleeding non stop from my mouth, nose, throat and the doctors got my family tog

A relative mixed some vitamins and oils, etc that she got from a health store, and come chemical reaction occurred, changing the color and consistency . Somehow, it's curing all sorts of fungal infections and shrinking skin tags(we're not sure if it's exactly "safe", but what the hell, if it works, it works). She doesn't know what she put into it, or how she got it to do what it does. I was wondering if there may be some lab or something of the sort that would take a sample and determine the "

Resolved Question: Big toe nail is green coloured and coming away from nail bed...possibly related to stds.!!!?
(Fri, 21 Oct 2011 01:10:53 GMT)
My right big toenail hasn't looked too healthy for the past couple of months. First of all I noticed ridges in the nail, then a dry whiteness overcasting the nail and when I just took my nail varnish off my toes the bottom corner is green, and looking down from the top of the nail it has come away from the nail bed. I have read that it could be down to a fungal infection or weakened immune system i.e Hiv/Aids, amongst other things. I had a blood test in febuary 2011 where I was tested for HI

Voting Question: Please Help! 8 months, itchy jock area. Not Yeast Infection, not "Jock Itch"?
(Thu, 25 Aug 2011 18:41:55 GMT)
I have had minor itching in my jock area for nearly a year. It doesn't look like anything. There are no bumps, no scaling, no redness, no visible signs whatsoever. It just itches a little, and if I scratch too much, it does get raw (obviously). I saw a doctor after about 6 months, and he didn't know what it was, as he couldn't see anything. He prescribed topical antifungals, just in case it was jock itch. I used them for 2 weeks, and it didn't help at all. All it did was make it itch mo

However I tried to cut some hairs down there and shave, but the itching still persisted. The itching is usually on the bottom and the side of my nutsack, not on the shaft of the penis. I looked at it, and I cannot really see any noticeable red patches or signs of skin wear and there are no red or pink patches around my crotch. Mt nuts just itch really bad and today morni

The vet hasn't had the results of the tests, but reading about it I'm almost sure it's ringworm, besides, my husband and I got a few spots ourselves (treated with topical creams)... so the vet prescribed an antibiotic, an oral anti-fungal we have to give for 21 days and some sort of oil to mix with water and use all over his body, like a bath, but wiped. I asked if we should give him bath (a real one with shampoo) and said it wasn't necessary, but it's been almost 2 weeks and my kitten is so f

Resolved Question: Need advice to diagnose my general head discomfort.?
(Sat, 21 May 2011 22:21:38 GMT)
I had a tooth abscess on extraction site # 17 (my lower left jaw, last molar at the back in my case )that was popped by an oral surgeon on Apr. 4. I had 2 and a half week's worth of CLINDAMYCIN 150mg/cap. to be taken every 6 hours. On the night of Apr. 19, I saw a circular pattern that wouldn't go away even if I close an eye, both my eyes or stare anywhere. I rested for a bit and it went away only to be replaced by a localized head ache on the left side of the head and at the back of my eye.

About 2 years ago, I was treated for having a fungal/skin infection on my abdomen. I recently switched insurance and have to find a new doctor. I told them about that infection in my application. I had to wait until May 1st for my health insurance to go 'active', and about a week before that I noticed a strange skin discoloration on my right shoulder/neck. Resolved Question: If Michelle is genuinely concerned about our health?

why doesn't she make a meaningful contribution? Why not expose the health risks caused by MSG? I'm not the anxious or hysterical type, but I know this giant list of symptoms makes me sound like I am - hence my reluctance to see a doctor, as I just don't know what to say to them. This has gone on for so long though that I can't take it anymore, I really need some help! I so appreciate any of you taking the time to read this, it's a pretty long, boring and drawn-out saga! Resolved Question: Is this tree in danger?
(Mon, 23 Aug 2010 17:54:13 GMT)
I have a silver maple tree and I just noticed tiny, brown umbrella (not shelf) shaped mushrooms growing in clusters of about six to ten. The mushrooms are very small, and the tree appears to be in good health besides mild defoliation of green leaves, but the trees around my yard have always dropped leaves year round. I was just wondering if this is the onset of a fungal infection that will kill the tree. The tree is about 75 feet tall and is fairly old. Thanks in advance.

But is this entirely true? Do we really know that HIV is not spread in saliva? The reason I ask is because I dated someone in 2002 who I had no sexual contact with, but we passionately kissed A LOT. Deep, long lasting, "french" kissing, its practically all we ever did. AFTER

Resolved Question: what sport is the best to choose for your child?
(Fri, 21 Aug 2009 08:48:11 GMT)
Well each one has a problem: swimming: risk of skin fungal infections that are hard to treat and severe sinusitis plus the risk of chlorine water as a potential carcinogen and also health hazard gymnastic : risk of fall and spine injury...It also makes your child shorty Karate and judo: makes your child violent and also risk to kicks to the internal organs Soccer and football: I do not like when they hit the ball with their head and the fact that they have to play outside under the sun Cycling
