Your gallbladder is a pear-shaped organ under your liver. It stores bile, a fluid made by your liver to digest fat. As your stomach and intestines digest food, your gallbladder releases bile through a tube called the common bile duct. The duct connects your gallbladder and liver to your small intestine.
Cancer of the gallbladder is rare. It is more common in women and Native Americans. Symptoms include
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes)
- Pain above the stomach
- Fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Bloating
- Lumps in the abdomen
It is hard to diagnose gallbladder cancer in its early stages. Sometimes doctors find it when they remove the gallbladder for another reason. But people with gallstones rarely have gallbladder cancer. Because it is often found late, it can be hard to treat gallbladder cancer. Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation or a combination.

Resolved Question: Is the VA indicative of the quality of care we would receive under govt sponsored healtcare?
(Thu, 02 Feb 2012 08:06:03 GMT)
My 56 yo brother is a disabled veteran. He has had gross pain for the last year in both the upper abdomen and hip area. He has been awfully sick on top of it - vomiting, unable to eat, he lost 50 pounds in the last 3 months. He has been to the doctor regularly - almost weekly - and been hospitalized a number of times in the last year and a half at the VA. When he was in the hospital they gave him enough meds to keep him somewhat comfortable. When they sent him home, he was subjected to

Resolved Question: Afraid I have had too many CT scans...?
(Thu, 08 Dec 2011 13:29:01 GMT)
Let me start by saying that I believe all of the CT scans were necessary, I trust and love my GI doctor. I have had unexplainable elevated liver enzymes for over 6 months now and when they started to grow even worse, my GI decided it was time to do some testing. I also was having a lot of abdominal pain and a few periods of a fever lasting more than a couple of days. I was admitted too the ER with a high fever and abdominal pain. They suspected it was appendicitis. They did a CT scan with

Voting Question: I'm terrified of getting cancer? (sorry for length)?
(Thu, 08 Sep 2011 02:48:59 GMT)
First off, I'm 14, and I admit I have severe anxiety. Anyway, this fear came up recently, before I just accepted it was always gonna be a possibility I would get it. I have been having a lot of health issues lately, I had my appendix removed in March, then 2 weeks later, I had my gallbladder removed. I was then diagnosed with anemia, peptic ulcers, hiatel hernia (my stomach is in my throat.), and a belly button hernia. I've been tested for brain tumors, Zollinger Ellison Syndrome, pancr

Resolved Question: can a gastroenterologist order blood tests?
(Sun, 31 Jul 2011 15:55:42 GMT)
I'm going for a gastro appointment next week for suspected gallbladder disease but while I'm there I'd really like to get a round of blood tests. I'd like to request some tests to check for anemia, as well as platelet counts to make sure there isn't anything else going on in conjunction with my gastro issues (ie cancer that isn't showing obvious symptoms yet... I figure while I'm there I might as well take advantage of it and make sure I'm still in otherwise good shape.) I tend to be really p

Resolved Question: Father has lesions in hip bone, spine, around heart, lungs, liver, gallbladder and chest cavity...?
(Tue, 15 Jun 2010 20:12:05 GMT)
My father's health has been going downhill for the last 6 months. It started with his kidney's failing due to diabetes and he was doing pretty well until about a month or so ago. He's been on dialysis for close to 6 months, and has been complaining of severe pain in his back and side. So, the doctors ran a few tests and I was aware of the lesions on his liver and gallbladder but was not aware of the ones on the other parts of his body. The doctors do not know if it is benign or malignant yet,

Resolved Question: What could granulomas on the liver mean?
(Wed, 07 Apr 2010 18:34:07 GMT)
I recently (March 29) had my gallbladder removed due to gallstones. The doctor found small granulomas on my liver at that time and sent them for biopsy. The biopsy revealed no cancer, but also no answer as to why these things are here. I went today to see the surgeon for a recheck, and he call my regular doctor who also came in to see me (they work out of the same office). My doctor asked me several questions about IV drug use and etc. (which I have never done), and about any family histor

Voting Question: Why are my stomach problems alleviated by drinking?
(Wed, 28 Oct 2009 00:32:38 GMT)
I have been having mild stomach problems for a couple years. At first I thought it was just bad indigestion or IBS as it felt like a lot of bubbles or rocks moving around in my stomach. It seems I could find relief by pushing on my abdomen or passing gas/burping. In the past month or so, these problems have gotten worse and my symptoms have changed. I now have pain behind my breastbone and to the left side somewhat, along with getting stabbing pains in my right backside. I also frequently get

(Sat, 13 Jun 2009 17:18:32 GMT)
I'm just curious. •Adults 18 and older need 30 minutes of physical activity on five or more days a week to be healthy; children and teens need 60 minutes of activity a day for their health. •Significant health benefits can be obtained by including a moderate amount of physical activity (e.g., 30 minutes of brisk walking or raking leaves, 15 minutes of running, 45 minutes of playing volleyball). Additional health benefits can be gained through greater amounts of physical activity. •Thirty to

She started out with Graves disease (thyroid disease) which then she had radioactive iodine and it basically cured it. Then it turned into hyperthyroid and then down to hypothyroid. After the Dr's put her on medicine that she takes now for the rest of her life, she had to have a hysterectomy. Finally we thought she would be okay and have no more health problems. Well she did: Ha

Resolved Question: How do I end my essay?
(Wed, 18 Mar 2009 01:42:57 GMT)
28% of Americans are obese. That is about one third of population. One third of population can’t obese just by over eating. If not only that than what is it? The leading causes of obesity, disincluding over eating, are: lack of exercise, family history of obesity, stress, peer or family problems, medical illnesses, and depression. Although certain medical disorders can cause obesity, less than one percent of all obesity is caused by physical problems. But sadly, we have come to know that the l
