What is Hidradenitis Suppurativa?
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic disease of a type of sweat gland. It can occur in one or multiple areas of your body. HS usually develops in your armpits, groin and anal area. It causes long-term skin inflammation and can be painful.
Symptoms include
- Blackheads and red, tender bumps, called abscesses. The abscesses get bigger, break open and leak pus
- Tunnels that form under the skin between abscesses
- Scarring
No one knows what causes HS. It is more common in women, African-Americans and people who have had acne. It usually starts after the teenage years. Treatments include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines and sometimes surgery. Losing weight and wearing loose clothing can help, too.

Resolved Question: Chlamydia help! Boyfriend had negative results!?
(Wed, 11 May 2011 07:49:14 GMT)
I'm in college and my college had a free STD check at the health clinic, so I took up the offer. I got my results back and everything came back negative. About 3 weeks to one month later, I went to the health department to get on birth control, and they gave me another test. I figured it was no big deal because I had already had one and it came back negative. A week later I get a call from the health department saying that I tested positive for Chlamydia. During that time I had only had sex 1-

Resolved Question: Hidradenitis Suppurativa ?
(Fri, 16 Oct 2009 09:09:59 GMT)
I'm a 17 year old girl and I diagnosed myself with hidradenitis suppurativa about 2 years ago. I have never been to a doctor for this condition as I am extremely embarrassed about it. It only seems to affect my inner thighs/buttocks/vaginal area, so its easy to hide from people, besides sexual partners which I don't have many of because I don't know how to tell them about my condition. It's only gotten worse and am very scarred down there now because of it. I have been sexually active for abou
