Resolved Question: Equine Health.. Are they right in wanting to put my horse down?
(Sat, 12 Feb 2011 23:33:09 GMT)
I am in great need of some one's help.
My horse Shadow (14.3 SECTION D Cob) has been ill for the last 5 months and in that time period my vet has failed to diagnose what is wrong with him. At first they thought it was ragwort poisoning, as he looked jaundice and was showing minor symptoms (this had apparently led onto 85% liver damage) but then further tests said his liver was back to 20-25% damage?. They failed to take into account the possibility of shock laminitus and in doing so he develo

Resolved Question: I have metabolic syndrome and I run cross-country at school?
(Sat, 28 Aug 2010 13:30:24 GMT)
Hey there.
I'm an overweight 16 year old (5 feet 7inches tall, and 81Kg) with metabolic syndrome. I decided to take up cross-country last because I want to lose weight and become healthier, and I was told I have metabolic syndrome, and that I need to do something about my weight.
Anyway, normally before I go to cross country I would eat something small because of my low blood-sugar levels, but I read in a health magazine it is not good to do so. I heard you are suppose to jog on an empty stom

Resolved Question: Fructose or fruit sugars can cause metabolic syndrome, hypertension and even diabetes leading to weight gain?
(Tue, 24 Aug 2010 23:54:01 GMT)
Fact. "The only metabolic pathway open to fructose is that which ends up in fatty acid production. And remember, excessive fatty acid and triglyceride levels are convincingly tied to development of the metabolic syndrome, hypertension, glucose intolerance and type 2 diabetes." And,
"The rapid and poorly controlled metabolism of fructose in the liver leads to increased hepatic lipogenesis, dyslipidemia and increased storage of fat in the liver. Increased lipid levels are associated with insulin

Resolved Question: Should we have our son tested too? (Vaccine Question)?
(Mon, 22 Feb 2010 17:35:14 GMT)
Our 3 year old daughter has Microcephaly, 22q13.3 deletion syndrome (Phelan-McDermid Syndrome) and is currently being tested for a metabolic disorder as her MRI scan suggested she may have one. So far, the only one ruled out has been PKU.
Now, before I go further, I know many people reading this are pro-vaccinations, but bare with me here. We do not know the cause of her conditions, or if they are genetic. Her microcephaly was not present at birth, the 22q13 deletion syndrome was present from

Resolved Question: Does anyone have unpleasant symptoms from sugar/alcohol/caffeine, but without diabetes?
(Mon, 28 Dec 2009 10:19:55 GMT)
If I have anything with concentrated amounts of sugar, I get slight pricking in my hands and feet, and often get tired. If I combine caffeine with the sugar product(s), the effect is much worse, and I start to feel very foggy and ill, and I may start to look pale and sweat. Sometimes I even get genital itching. The worst effect of all is from alcohol, even ONE unit (a glass of wine, for instance) I feel very unpleasant, and need to urinate almost immediately. Two units and its even worse,

Resolved Question: Diet Soda and Triglycerides: Stopping the soda change your blood work?
(Fri, 25 Sep 2009 04:42:13 GMT)
I am curious to see if anyone else has seen the results I have.
About July 10 of 2009 I decided to stop drinking diet soda (I've drunk on average 30-40+ ounces of diet pepsi or diet coke for decades) and drink only water. On July 29 2009 I had a blood test (I am type 2 diabetic) and my triglycerides were 102. I've NEVER had this low a level of triglycerides in any blood test I've had in well over 20 years, regardless of exercise, drugs, etc. Turns out that a couple of medical studies have sh

(Wed, 05 Aug 2009 01:50:05 GMT)
I have type I diabetes and the amount of insulin I need after each meal depends on the amount of carbohydrate in the meal. I usually eat 200g/ carbs a day which is a lot. I've been doing some research online and apparently insulin has negative health effects.. its like cholesterol.. we need it but too much causes problems.. Insulin causes diabetes, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, heart attacks and strokes.. Is that true? Should I eat less carbs so that I need less insulin?

Insulin resistance is not a disease as such but rather a state or condition in which a person's body tissues have a lowered level of response to insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas that helps to regulate the level of glucose (sugar) in the body. As a result, the person's body produces larger quantities of insulin to maintain normal levels of glucose in the blood. There is considerable individual variation in sensitivity to insulin within the general population, with the most

Resolved Question: Can low blood pressure cause sudden headaches?
(Tue, 19 Aug 2008 16:39:41 GMT)
I have a hereditary predisposition for high blood press and it was consistently 130-90 or so when measured. This was even when I was younger and somewhat athletic. Since then, the doctor put me on a low-dose drug that got it down to 120-80 and slightly less. But this year, I have been exercising a lot and now my bp often measures pretty low, such as 87/59, and my pulse is often under 60.
I also have what's termed Metabolic Syndrome where my cholesterol numbers are also very weird -- heredita
