Imagine if you couldn't walk normally or get up from a chair, or if parts of your body moved when you didn't want them to. If you have a movement disorder, you experience these kinds of impaired movement. Dyskinesia is a common symptom of many movement disorders. Dyskinesia results in broken or jerky motions. Tremors are a type of dyskinesia.
Nerve diseases cause many movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease. Other causes include injuries, autoimmune diseases, infections and certain medicines. Many movement disorders are inherited, which means they run in families.
Treatment varies by disorder. Medicine can cure some disorders. Others get better when an underlying disease is treated. Often, however, there is no cure. In that case, the goal of treatment is to improve symptoms and relieve pain.

Open Question: What is the physical reason for a person to sleep walk or sleep talk? Like a lack of a certain brain chemical?
(Sat, 11 Feb 2012 05:30:57 GMT)
So like I sleep walk and sleep talk. I've been told this is classified under the broad sleep disorder called Parasomnia. My doctor described it as the subconscious part of my brain takes over and my body just kinda goes with it. Like a seizure in a way but less detrimental to my health. But I've always wondered what actually is happening to my body, and why I don't really sleepwalk often but sleep talk every night and even when napping. Does my sleepwalking and sleeptalking relate to the conte

Why does my face "involunarily frown" as im falling asleep? Is it a sleep disorder or neurological? I'm 25 years old and work nights. I sleep during the day and for a while I've experienced periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD) in my legs as I'm falling asleep. Within the last few weeks, however, something else has been happening. On random occasions while I'm falling asleep the corners of my mouth will shoot down. It causes my facial expression into a frown in which I have absolutely no c

Resolved Question: Does this sound like Asperger's Syndrome?

I'm 17 and have always been a loner and very socially naive. I have self-diagnosed myself, with ~90% confidence, with both major depression and social anxiety. I have been obsessed with mental health disorders recently. I was reading about the symptoms of AS and noticed that I have a lot of those symptoms. 1. Self-stimulating activity. I tap my fingers, twist my fingers, bite my nails, pick my nails, bite my lips (just realized I'm doing this one right now), and I also crack my knuckles every

Hi ya'll. I thought I'd share some background information. I'm a 29 y/o male and I suffer from health anxiety / hypochondria. I have not been "professionaly" diagnosed as such, but given my symptoms of isolation, constant worry, effects on my every day life, physical and mental symptoms and lots of other things I don't want to get into - I think I'm quite certain I suffer from an anxiety type disorder (or maybe more). So here it goes, about 1.5 months ago I've started getting major health an

My health has went down hill really badly in the last 2 years. I really can't even explain the origin of the problem. Basically all I can say is through out the years I would lose sensation all over my body and my mind would be shot. Kind of like when your very intoxicated, to the point where you can barely function. Within the last 2 years this problem has been an everyday thing. I had tons of tests done and even ended up in the hospital and psyche ward to figure out the issue. I had seizures

I've posted on here before and if someone answered that one sees this one, they'll know I have an anxiety disorder. Meaning I over react to things that probably shouldn't be. Anyway to the question. I have a slight pain in my side, not sharp, it's never been sharp more of a discomfort to where I have to get up and move, which then the pain goes away. I do martial arts and I took a blow a few weeks ago in that area though I don't know if a muscle bruise would last that long and I see no bruise

"researchers discovered that the near-death study group had a significantly higher rate (60 percent compared with 24 percent) of a sleep disorder known as rapid eye movement, or REM, intrusion." "This may explain why some people have near-death experiences after undergoing a traumatic event that causes unconsciousness, Nelson said. When a person is under the threat, their fight-or-flight nervous system is evoked. But as they come out of unconsciousness, some mental wires may be crossed." htt

Resolved Question: Would my doctor have told me if I had high blood pressure?
(Tue, 01 Jun 2010 03:52:32 GMT)
Okay, heres the deal. I am a bit of a hypochondriac with a anxiety disorder somewhat under control. I keep palpitating a lot, and any time I go into the doctor complaining of it, they give me an EKG and it comes back normal (3 times now, the last was in December), how ever that is only the resting rate. My palpitations are really noticeable after I do some small activity of movement. I've been able to work out with no abnormal pain other than those 'fat burn' feelings for the past few weeks.

How many hours of sleep did you get last night? 8.. 9... 10.. or no sleep at all? As a matter of fact we all need To sleep to help with our health and welfare. I will be telling you about Sleeping disorders and how you can get most out of sleeping. Having a set bed time is one of the many ways that can help you get to sleep. Resolved Question: Has anyone been diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis? I have that disorder and need support.?
(Wed, 21 Oct 2009 15:47:15 GMT)
I am 27 years old and it was discovered that I have Juvenile (then Rheumatoid) now Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) when I was 10 years old. Resolved Question: Has anyone ever had EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprogramming)?
(Mon, 12 Oct 2009 19:51:41 GMT)
I'm 16 and recently was referred by my doctor to a child & adolescent mental health clinic where I am beginning sessions of CBT for depression & anxiety. My therapist is also looking into getting me EMDR as she believes I am suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after I was sexually assaulted a little while back. Has anyone ever had this? I'm scared and don't think I want it but I probably need it.

When I enter into a bad state of health, all of these beneficial attributes go down the drain. I become extremely tired, have a
