Muscular dystrophy (MD) refers to a group of more than 30 inherited diseases that cause muscle weakness and muscle loss. Some forms of MD appear in infancy or childhood, while others may not appear until middle age or later. The different muscular dystrophies vary in who they affect and the symptoms. All forms of MD grow worse as the person's muscles get weaker. Most people with MD eventually lose the ability to walk.
There is no cure for muscular dystrophy. Treatments include physical and speech therapy, orthopedic devices, surgery and medications. Some people with muscular dystrophy have mild cases that worsen slowly. Others cases are disabling and severe.

Resolved Question: Is there anyway to back out of this with some shred of dignity and respect?
(Wed, 11 Jan 2012 02:14:51 GMT)
I committed to be manager of a sports team for my school. It's a lot of work and I had to stop doing it (it's what I love) because of severe health issues which had popped up last year. This year I wanted to do it, and I told him yesterday I'd do it and that I was good to go for the team. He needs me in two and a half weeks. But I'm still sick (though my health issues have been being managed). What I have is a rare form of muscular dystrophy that attacks my energy, so it makes stuff like jus

Voting Question: Hypochondria is making my life awful?
(Tue, 06 Dec 2011 20:54:08 GMT)
I have always been a hypochondriac ever since I can remember, but recently, my worries have just exploded and the worrying I'm having is really hindering my life. I have not been diagnosed with any psychological conditions, but am wondering if I should go to someone and see about being medicated for this. I have muscular dystrophy and have recently had a series of unexplained health issues, and this has caused the feelings to go into overdrive. It's hard for me to go a day without looking up d

Resolved Question: Can humans end up on the low end of the gene pool if they grow " in vitro meat " ....?
(Sun, 13 Nov 2011 15:03:37 GMT)
. The science for in vitro meat is an outgrowth of the field of biotechnology known as tissue engineering. The technology is simultaneously being developed along with other uses for tissue engineering such as helping those with muscular dystrophy and, similarly, growing transplant organs. The body does not seem to reject tissue engineering as a replacement . However digesting in vitro meat is quite different. The body processes all things for all parts of the body Not just for the production o

Voting Question: Why does it feel like I can't get a deep breath? Allergy, anxiety?
(Wed, 02 Nov 2011 16:21:57 GMT)
I've been having breathlessness and chest pain all week; went to the ER Thursday, everything was normal. They did bloodwork, an Xray and an EKG. The doctor gave me Xanax because he felt like it was anxiety. Monday I thought I was completely back to normal... no pain or breathlessness... until ~3AM. Suddenly felt very short of breath and was up all night (didn't sleep til 6pm next day) feeling like I was not getting oxygen. Tingly in my hands and face and felt like my lungs were tired and sore

Hello. For about 10 months now, I've been having GERD and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) maybe caused by GERD. It all started on January 1, 2011. I was eating breakfast (2 sunny side up eggs, leftover chapli kabab (Afghani beef patty), nan (Afghani bread) and mix/tea w/milk). The kabab was a little burnt tho. Anyways, after I finished eating, I felt a lump in my throat like a piece of food getting stuck. It was really bothersome. Then I warmed up some warm milk and added honey on it to soot

i know someone with DMD who is 15 years old. he is still walking very well. He is worried about how long he might live. i say with current medicine, he will live to at least 30 if he is careful. Resolved Question: Why does God allow natural and unnatural bad things?
(Fri, 16 Sep 2011 00:47:09 GMT)
The existence of evil acts is one of the main reasons why I don't believe in a caring, compassionate, loving God. The standard excuse Christians give for why God, despite being omnipotent, won't move a finger to stop violent crime and torture is that He doesn't want to violate our free will. Umm, okay. So apparently God values the free will of serial killers and child rapists more than the well-being of children. Apparently God values the free will of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Caligula, and Vlad

In my family, my brother has duchene muscular dystrophy and he is the only one in our health records with it. After we learned this, my mother got tested and we found out that she is a carrier. Resolved Question: Should doctors be required to report injuries indicating DV (please read details, guys esp.)?
(Wed, 24 Mar 2010 13:50:41 GMT)
Often domestic violence victims deny their abuse out of shame and fear of retaliation. When my brother was being abused by his then wife, he had several ER visits. The very condition that made him particularly vulnerable to the abuse (Becker's muscular Dystrophy, caused by the same gene causing my recent health issues) also became the excuse for his being "accident-prone". Increasing muscle weakness would explain falls and other injuries. But in retrospect, an examination of his medical re

I am in a fix and was told by great west life retirement unless I was 3 payments behind on my home I couldn't get any of my 401k I need it now to live on. I am having health problems and need expensive treatment and transportation, my car fell to peices and had to be hauled off. Is there anything I can do to get it. I have muscular dystrophy and am continuing to work.
