What is Organ Transplantation?
You may need an organ transplant if one of your own organs has failed. This can happen because of illness or injury. When you have an organ transplant, doctors remove an organ from another person and place it in your body.
The organs that can be transplanted include
People who need an organ transplant often have to wait a long time for one. Doctors must match donors to recipients to reduce the risk of transplant rejection. This is when the recipient's body turns against the new organ, causing it to fail. People who have transplants must take drugs the rest of their lives to help keep their bodies from rejecting the new organ.

Resolved Question: What are the pros and cons of having a transplant, specifically a lung transplant?
(Fri, 08 Jul 2011 00:48:25 GMT)
My friend is currently very unwell and is on the lung transplant list. We both have the same illness which inevitably leads to having to have a lung transplant if you want to live. My health is currently alot better then my friends as she has this illness much worse then me, but some day in the future I too will be in this position and it's made me think about organ donation and transplants.
What do you think the pros and cons are? I know if she does get one it will give her a new life and

Resolved Question: Good speach on animal testing/vivisection?
(Sun, 07 Feb 2010 11:24:29 GMT)
Ladies and gentleman of the audience, I am here to present the controversial topic of vivisection which is also better known as animal testing. The definition for this in ‘the Collins English dictionary’ is ‘Vivisection: the act of cutting open live animals for medical research’. As gruesome as this may sound I am here to contribute my own opinion. I am for animal testing. This is not because I don’t care about animal’s feelings or lives, but because I strongly agree that human life outweighs

Resolved Question: Jehovah's Witnesses: about blood transfusions.?
(Tue, 15 Dec 2009 19:02:08 GMT)
Since the Watchtower Track Society (WTS) prohibits the use of blood transfusions, why does it permit the infusion of albumin, clotting factors, and gamma globulins, all of which are components of human blood and are derived from human blood? Since Acts 15:29 clearly refers to the old Jewish law of not EATING blood (Gen 9:4, Lev 3:17, Deut 12:16), and since the WTS has changed its teachings on other major health related issues like vaccinations, organ transplantations, and its opposition to ton

Resolved Question: Diagnosed with Hepatitis C Virus then a week later diagnosed with Cirrhosis, what should I do?
(Sun, 25 Oct 2009 13:47:51 GMT)
Hi, my fiancée has been diagnosed with Hepatitic C Virus (PCR: 75000). A week later we headed to a doctor who diagnosed her with Cirrhosis. The doctor said that it's not in the advanced stage. I read about the topic and understood that it's a serious disease and it's survival rate is too low. I also learned that in the very advanced stage the only option a patient has left is the liver transplantation procedure, which of course requires a donor with a healthy organ. Can a donor donate only a p

Resolved Question: Why do people say heart transplants "save lives"?
(Fri, 24 Apr 2009 12:35:06 GMT)
A study published in BMJ followed all patients listed for a heart transplant in Germany in 1997 and found NO DIFFERENCE IN SURVIVAL RATES between those who actually received a heart transplant and those who did not.
The NHS website has a page on the cost-effectiveness of transplants. The whole article is about kidney transplants. They don’t say a word about the cost-effectiveness of any other kind of transplant. I’m unable to find any data at all on the matter on either the US Health Resourc

Resolved Question: Can anyone give me a rational, non-emotional opinion on Falun Gong and their persecution in China?
(Mon, 23 Mar 2009 03:45:39 GMT)
I've tried to look up the Falun Gong on yahoo! answers several times, but most questions/answers seem to be along the lines of "China is evil!" or "Falun Gong is evil!"
I want cool-headed answers, please no ranting about China's human-rights record or allegations of torture and live transplantation of Falun Gong practitioners. I've read enough about that already.
My own research on the topic gives me the idea that although China may have legitimate reasons to fear and punish the Falun Gong,

Resolved Question: Brain Death: Is That Dead Enough?
(Fri, 03 Oct 2008 00:58:31 GMT)
It is now considered by the medical profession and supported by legal and some ethical consensus that if a person's entire brain is dead, the person is dead. The reason is that if the entire brain is destroyed, there is absence of spontaneous breathing and expected cessation of heartbeat soon. It is on the basis of this concept that all life support treatments which the patient may have had in place before brain death has been established can be removed because the patient is now dead. It also

Resolved Question: Will You Go Ahead, Buy An Illegal Immigrant A New Liver ?
(Wed, 23 Apr 2008 23:27:03 GMT)
It's your choice. Instead of leaving your money to your children, leave your money to somebody else's child who's in the country illegally, and is in need of an organ transplant. Feel free to pay what the LA Times' Anna Gorman reports is the price:The average cost of a liver transplant and first-year follow-up is nearly $490,000, and anti-rejection medications can run more than $30,000 annually, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing, which oversees transplantation nationwide.People

Resolved Question: dont pay attention to this!?
(Wed, 16 Apr 2008 13:44:56 GMT)
Organ and Tissue Transplants
Modern techniques of medical transplantation—surgically removing a diseased or malfunctioning kidney, heart, or other organ, and replacing it with a healthy organ from a donor—has brought new life and new hope to patients who, just a few generations ago, would have died. But the practice has also raised significant ethical questions. One such question centers on the cold reality of supply versus demand: At any moment, there are upwards of 150,000 people in the worl

Resolved Question: Would the Mexican government stand for illegal aliens on its soil demanding such entitlement?
(Mon, 14 Apr 2008 21:21:16 GMT)
The open-borders entitlement mentality has only grown deeper since the last time this issue went national with the case of Jessica Santillan. The ideologues who believe that America should be the medical welcome mat to the world have prevailed. Via the Los Angeles Times:
Ana Puente was an infant with a liver disorder when her aunt brought her illegally to the U.S. to seek medical care. She underwent two liver transplants at UCLA Medical Center as a child in 1989 and a third in 1998, each paid
