A cyst is a fluid-filled sac. In most cases a cyst on the ovary does no harm and goes away by itself. Most women have them sometime during their lives. Cysts are rarely cancerous in women under 50. Cysts sometimes hurt - but not always. Often, a woman finds out about a cyst when she has a pelvic exam.
If you're in your childbearing years or past menopause, have no symptoms, and have a fluid-filled cyst, you may choose to monitor the cyst. You may need surgery if you have pain, are past menopause or if the cyst does not go away. Birth control pills can help prevent new cysts.
A health problem that may involve ovarian cysts is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Women with PCOS can have high levels of male hormones, irregular or no periods and small ovarian cysts.

Resolved Question: Should I have my 7cm ovarian Cyst surgically removed? One Dr says yes, another Dr told me No? ?
(Sat, 11 Feb 2012 13:34:07 GMT)
I have a 7cm cyst, diagnosed through an ultrasound last week. It was incredibly painful and went to Emergency, only to be told I'd need to have it out and to get to a specialist ASAP. So I went to my GP for the refferal, only to be told that it would take too long to get into a specialist, so I'll just need to manage the pain as best I could with panadol and panadine forte. I went away thinking "is this the right management of what I have?" I work full time and have a 3.5yr old son, and don'

Voting Question: Am I pregnant.....................................................?
(Fri, 10 Feb 2012 04:58:45 GMT)
I have a health condition called polycystic ovarian disease, which means I have cysts on my ovaries. Unfortunately, one of the side effects are infertility, however I'm well aware of women, with this condition, getting pregnant and staying that way until labor. I guess I have hopes that I'll be one of those lucky women some day. Another side effect of this disease are very irregular menstrual cycles. Sooo for the first time in almost five months, I had a period! AND two weeks later, I actually

I live in Sevierville, Tennessee. I am over the age of 21, I am 23. I can make my own choices without the consent of my family. I am not married. My family has a history of ovarian cysts. My mother and sister had them and had surgery which ended up in them losing their ovaries. I am not certain if I will develope them. But I am certain that I want a tubal ligation. I have helped my mother raise my 25 year old sister's child from a infant to age 5 at this time. I have experienced life with a ch

Resolved Question: Best solutions for ovarian cysts?
(Mon, 16 Jan 2012 05:50:40 GMT)
I started having abdominal pain about 2 years ago, which resulted in many visits to the ER before a doctor was able to find an ovarian cyst causing problems. I was put on bed rest for 2 weeks following that incident, and placed on a birth control pill to keep more cysts from showing up. I still had pain while taking the pill, but it was significantly less than I had before. This summer I was busy and didn't get a chance to go back to the doctor for a couple of months. By that time, I was havin

I was taking Loestrin 24 and when I no longer had health insurance, I could not refill it. Needless to say, I stopped taking it and I havent had a period in a little over a year. I am sexually active but practice safe sex. I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts when I was put on the birth control and was told I may not be fertile. I am not pregnant and have taken tests because this is mind boggling. Since I have no insurance, I cant go see my doctor about this. Does anyone know anything about not

Resolved Question: Gynecologic cancer? I think i have it.. But doctors dont listen?
(Mon, 09 Jan 2012 05:45:36 GMT)
I have had bleeding between my periods for over a year now (14 months). I have a history of ovarian cysts and had hpv about 12 years ago. Lately, ive been getting heavier menstrual cycles and "weird" discharge. Dr's have done pap, pelvic exams, two transvaginal ultrasounds, and i think a d&c. For what i think was a d&c, the dr. Snipped part of my cervix right in the room she examined me in. Hurt so bad! But it was done in 10 min. All these tests have been normal. No over grown or masses showed

Resolved Question: Severe health condition ?
(Sun, 01 Jan 2012 21:49:14 GMT)
It's my period. I usually get it on the 25 of every month. Yesterday was my first day, it was about a week late. I was away on vacation and have never had a period like that. It felt like someone was tearing my insides out literally. I was in so much pain I threw up from it. The blood was so heavy I wrapped a towel around me and that wasnt enough. I took every over the counter medicine and nothing helped. I don't know why I was in so much pain but today it's still as bad. Except I am so weak.

Resolved Question: Ovarian Cyst // Help?
(Mon, 26 Dec 2011 06:07:29 GMT)
I have a 3cm cyst on my right ovary. I went to the doctor a few months ago and all they did was an ultrasound and they told me to go see a gynecologist. Anyway, my insurance ran out so i cant go. I don't know when i'll have health insurance again. It hurts like a bitch. I can't even stand up straight anymore. Is there anything i can do to make the pain go down? I don't know what to take for that and I don't want to mess it up even more.

We've been together 11 months, I love her with all my heart. She's had a bad year with loads of health problems, it's put pressure on us. It's caused arguments and her feeling insecure. I've tried 100% to make her feel good but she can be stubborn. If any of you go back and take a look at my last question, you'll get some background info. Although I'm only 21, I've been freaked out about ovarian cancer. I have had hyperthyroidism for about five years now, and I've read that this can increase your risk of ovarian cancer by 80%! I'm not sure if it makes a difference that my levels are well-controlled. I'm also a DES granddaughter, which I've read can slightly increase your risk of ovarian cancer. For about the past month, I've had these

Resolved Question: How can I get birth control pills quickly?

I am an 18 year old female. I feel sick almost all of the time. My stomach is always either upset or hurting, and I constantly have irregular bowel movements. I have really bad headaches nearly every night. Lately I've realized that I'm just not hungry. I haven't eaten much in four days, but I am making sure that I do get some food into my body. Almost everything gives me awful heartburn. I often feel very short of breath, and have also been struggling with sleep. I'm not sure if it's related

I believe I have the symptoms of an ovarian cyst. I have a dull, aching pain in my pelvis on the left side. It has been coming and going for a few years, usually when it shows up it will stay around for a few months. For about 3 days I had extreme dizziness and nausea, which are symptoms of a ruptured ovarian cyst. I also had a VERY small amount of fresh blood on the tissue when I wiped (sorry TMI) but that only happened once on the day this started. During that 3 day period I was unable to e

My mom doesn't think getting them spayed is that important since they're indoor cats. Nothing I say seems to make a difference. She's totally convinced spaying them will result in them getting sick or worse. Meanwhile I feel like a crap pet owner for not having my cats fixed.
