A rash is an area of irritated or swollen skin. It might be red and itchy, bumpy, scaly, crusty or blistered. Rashes are a symptom of many different medical conditions. Things that can cause a rash include other diseases, irritating substances, allergies and your genetic makeup.
Contact dermatitis is a common cause of rashes. It causes redness, itching and burning where you have touched an irritant, such as a chemical, or something you are allergic to, like poison ivy.
Some rashes develop immediately. Others form over several days. If you scratch your rash, it might take longer to heal. The treatment for a rash usually depends on its cause. Options include moisturizers, lotions, baths, cortisone creams that relieve swelling, and antihistamines, which relieve itching.

I have a mild but tender rash behind my scrotum as well.

Resolved Question: Some of my co-workers & acquaintances get ill from exposure to strong fragrances, is this a common problem?
(Sat, 04 Feb 2012 14:30:52 GMT)
Exposure to other people using strong perfume, body sprays or aftershaves causes a whole host of physical problems including respiratory, headaches, nausea, vomiting, etc. If I touch something that had been touched by someone who had a fragrance on their hands, I get an itchy rash. Some of my co-workers think I'm crazy and can't understand why I don't like things like febreze. They don't understand that it causes health issues for me. Is this all in my head like they claim? Voting Question: Health issues - Not sure though..?
(Thu, 02 Feb 2012 21:57:52 GMT)
Hi, I am a 17 year old male and I'm concerned about my health. Firstly, I'd like to say that I'm constantly tired all of the time. I don't get much sleep, because of when I go to sleep and when I have to wake up at 6:00am every morning for school. My weight isn't all that great for my age. My body feels weak all of the time and sometimes I get muscle aches. I was told by my Doctor that I have "cluster migraines" from being overwhelmed. So now I take propanolal (however you spell it). Also,

Voting Question: I eat very unhealthy food, but am very skinny, and I may be noticing side effects...?
(Thu, 02 Feb 2012 20:58:42 GMT)
I go to college and am on a very tight budget now that I am unemployed. So that forces me to eat frozen dinners for almost all my meals, such as banquet dinners for $1 a piece or pre cooked burritos. I have been eating these for the past year and didn't think anything about my health until I came home for the weekend and ate until I was more than full and basically had a heart attack. The other day after eating like I normally do at college I noticed this what seemed like a rash on my che

Resolved Question: Can bipolar can worse with age?
(Thu, 02 Feb 2012 19:53:32 GMT)
I think I was diagnosed around 24, and I'm 27 now. I was put on the maximum dose of Lamical right away which I take as I directed. This year, frustrated with my life I left home to go to college. Life has been far from easy, as one thing after the next seems to be going wrong. I've been wanting to die for a while but I have a dog and three cats, and living alone I know if I died no one would be able around to take care of them. Today I got so fed up that I overdosed on my medication (I realize

Resolved Question: Cat Losing Hair... With A Twist?
(Thu, 02 Feb 2012 12:41:36 GMT)
I have a 2 year old cat that is losing extreme amounts of hair but it is not scratching or licking excessively. The cat otherwise seems in good health. It eats and drinks like normal and plays with my other cats. The areas of missing hair get worse the further back on the cat you go. There is some hair loss on it's front legs but as you continue towards the tail the hair gets thinner and thinner. The skin in the hairless areas looks good. There's no rash or scabs there but I have noticed

Voting Question: Tips and pointers to deal with a rash caused by an allergic reaction.?
(Tue, 31 Jan 2012 05:40:11 GMT)
I started using Carmex on a coldsore I had on my cheek near my mouth. When I noticed an irritated bump on my lip, I figured I had another coldsore and applied it to my lips. The next day my lips were cracked and I had red and white bumps on my lips and cheek. I stopped using the Carmex but the rash has effected my cheek and lip severely. I've been using a cold compress to keep my lips and cheeks cool which has made the bumps smaller, but none of them have dissipated. I'm also taking a antihi

I am a 21 year old male in good health, but for the last 4 or 5 months I have suffered severe back pain. The pain is just below my shoulder blades on the spine and slightly to the right of the spine. The pain levels vary from debilitating to tolerable. -Information- The other morning I woke up and my groin area was quite itchy, I proceeded throughout the day not really giving it a second thought and kept scratching it. Later that night, it kind of hit me that it's abnormally itchy. I pulled my pants down to see that the whole area was reddish and bumpy. I'm a sixteen year old male. My penis is not affected. Voting Question: Is it too cold for my health?
(Sun, 22 Jan 2012 09:21:51 GMT)
I started workng in a food warehouse three months ago. I am the "Walk-in stager." What that means is that I work in a fridge that is always 40 degrees F cold. I'm constantly lifting and organizing a lot of boxes containing food, for about 7-8 hours daily with one 10-min break and one 30-min lunch. I've heard from other co-workers that I am the only person that lasted with that position. Everybody else quit during the first three weeks. Recently I've started getting red rashes on my face. The

Here's my health: I'm about 5'10", roughly 125 pounds. I know I'm underweight, but no matter how much I eat, I never gain weight. I'm 16-years-old, male, with no history of any known recurring health issues. My mother and little brother both have Asthma, but I was never diagnosed with it and am fairly active and have ne

They have to have their heart rate withing a target range for X amount of hours an hour for an A, so on and so fourth. Anyway, I think this sounds like a great program, but I am concerned that it is not opt-in. For one, what about students with hypersensitive skin? I for one break out into a rash when I am uncomfortable,
