Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The two most common types are basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer. They usually form on the head, face, neck, hands and arms. Another type of skin cancer, melanoma, is more dangerous but less common.
Anyone can get skin cancer, but it is more common in people who
- Spend a lot of time in the sun or have been sunburned
- Have light-colored skin, hair and eyes
- Have a family member with skin cancer
- Are over age 50
You should have your doctor check any suspicious skin markings and any changes in the way your skin looks. Treatment is more likely to work well when cancer is found early. If not treated, some types of skin cancer cells can spread to other tissues and organs.

(Tue, 14 Feb 2012 00:48:24 GMT)
I am 56, and in generally good health. However, 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with AML and had a non-allogeneic bone marrow transplant shortly after. I am in full remission, though I suffer from considerable skin cancer. For about 2 months, my underpants are saturated with perspiration 24 hours a day. I have a mild but tender rash behind my scrotum as well.

Open Question: Higher chance of cancer if most of my family has it?
(Fri, 10 Feb 2012 21:57:14 GMT)
My parents both had skin cancer. My grandmother died of cancer. Various other aunts and cousins have had it as well. I hear that your chances are higher based on genetics. My health is in the trashcan and i'm only 18 XD Just wondering if my risks may be higher or if it's a myth. Does the genetic risk theory thingy have anything to do with a specific kind of cancer or is it just cancer in general? :X I don't want to be ignorant, it's why i'm asking. So... be nice

"Women think everything is an insult. Any man could compliment a woman and say "great t!ts!!" and she will behave like he just *insulted* him. Even if she went out and bought them, she would take it as an insult." I will ignore the first line. As for the second paragraph, I would think that it is plausible that women would have a very powerful reason to be disappointed. They may have had breast cancer and needed implants because of several health reasons (skin, fluid accumalation, replacing

Resolved Question: The HPV Vaccine - UK - Why can't men get it?
(Wed, 08 Feb 2012 16:25:58 GMT)
The HPV Vaccine (or cervical cancer vaccine as some uneducated teachers confusingly call it), is only being offered to women because the virus has a reputation for causing cervical cancer in women. Now, to me that seems like another 'is it cost effective' decision by the UK government, who've decided that spending money on men's health is totally unimportant. Men can get skin problems, throat cancer and the warts themselves from this virus. But somehow the government have come to the conclus

I'm going to name EVERYTHING (I'm probably even forgetting something) I've ever thought I've had. AIDS (for no apparent reason, I mean I'm a virgin!) Testicular cancer (I felt something in my balls but I realized that what they meant by bumps was bumps ON the smooth ball and not some random lump in your scrotum (FAIL) ) Herpes (Some stupid bumps on my hand, again, I'm a virgin WTF was I thinking?!) Heart problems and a heart attack about to follow (It turned out to just be my anxiety) Diabetes

Voting Question: Should I worry about my lump?

Earlier today I found a small lump on my left armpit, its red raised and painful, it looks like an insect bite or spot but it feels as if I have A tiny bit of grit or gravel under the skin. Then a few hours later I noticed that I had two slightly bigger lumps exactly the same under my right breast where the wire of my bra sits. I'm 19, of average health but breast cancer is in my family. I've had under arm lumps before, just normal swollen glands that are tender slightly and go quickly... But

Resolved Question: natural remedies for shrinking/getting rid of tumors?

my mom just came to me and told me she had a tumor that started growing on her ankle in 2009, and has since wrapped around the bottom of her foot, and it's been causing her pain to walk lately. She's had a benign tumor on her arm before, and was able to have it removed. Her chances for getting cancer are huge. She has a lot of sun damage on her skin and has also been smoking for more than 20 years. Since a messy custody battle with my ex-stepfather, she has had her insurance taken from her and

Resolved Question: What's wrong with my chest?

I'm 21 years old, and I am chronically ill. The worst of my troubles is my reactive arthritis. For a few months now, I've had pain in my chest. It started with a patch of numb skin (with no discoloration or any visible problems) on my left breast, on the side near the center of my chest, not my arm. Over time, the tissue below the numb patch began to ache terribly. I can't tell if it's related to my heart, and I can't feel a lump. (I am always sure to monitor that closely, although breast can

There are two types of cell division: Mitosis and Meiosis. Most of the time when people refer to “cell division,” they mean Mitosis, the process of making new body cells. Meiosis is the type of cell division that creates egg and sperm cells. Mitosis is a fundamental process for life. During Mitosis, a cell duplicates all of its contents, including its chromosomes, and splits to form two identical daughter cells. Because this process is so critical, the steps of Mitosis are carefully controll
