Your teeth are made of a hard, bonelike material. Inside the tooth are nerves and blood vessels. You need your teeth for many activities you may take for granted. These include eating, speaking and even smiling. But tooth disorders are nothing to smile about. They include problems such as cavities (also known as tooth decay), infections, and injuries.
The most familiar symptom of a tooth problem is a toothache. Others include worn-down or loose teeth. It's important that you see a dentist if you have any problems with your teeth. Fortunately, you can prevent many tooth disorders by taking care of your teeth and keeping them clean.

Voting Question: Healing unhealthy/knotted muscle tissue?
(Wed, 08 Feb 2012 22:00:03 GMT)
I figured I'd ask on here and see if anybody knew anything. I grind my teeth a lot at night and have symptoms similar to TMJ disorder. A dentist specializing in this x-rayed my jaw joints and said nothing was wrong with them. He made me a mouth guard to sleep in and told me to exercise and work on stress management. I do at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day and I just bought a book that showed me a few stretches for my head/back/neck muscles. Shoulder rolls, shrugs, head roll, stuff l

Resolved Question: Wife doesn't want to take care of our children?
(Fri, 21 Oct 2011 21:03:25 GMT)
My wife doesn't like to take care of our children. We both work in a family run business but when we get off work she never wants to take care of our twin 3 year old boys. She sleeps late, waits for me to wake the kids up clean, dress and feed the kids. She'll mainly cook for them but very rarely helps feed them. In the evenings she usually just sits around or goes about her own business leaving me to feed, clean up, give the kids a bath, brush their teeth and tuck them in. I'm exhausted much

I can’t get disability as I still have a job, not sure for how long, but I’m still disqualified. I’ve got a laundry list of disorders. No, I’m not a hypochondriac. I have two over-riding conditions, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) and genetic Ciliopathy. It’s quite possible that the ciliopathy causes PSC in my case. These conditions have progressed and now I have arthritis, NAFLD, pre-diabetes, chronic pouchitis as a result of my colonectomy, cirrhosis related sleep disorder and hepa

Resolved Question: Tooth975, reversing bicuspid extractions? Please have a look at my case...?
(Fri, 07 Oct 2011 19:46:24 GMT)
First, I wanted to get braces at age 15, because I thought my teeth were “too forward”. I consulted with 2 orthodontists who both said I needed to have my 4 bicuspids extracted. I went to a third orthodontist who gave me 2 options after he saw the required X-Ray: either to extract or not to extract. If I extract he said, I will have room for my wisdom teeth when they erupt. If not, I have to remove them surgically before I get the braces. Unfortunately I chose bicuspid extractions, even thoug

Resolved Question: feeling depressed and eating terribly: how do I get better?
(Wed, 05 Oct 2011 03:26:08 GMT)
For the past 6 months I have been eating terribly and it is making me feel awful. The bad diet stemmed from the fact that people kept saying I was too thin. I never had an eating disorder (I was underweight, 5'8" and 108 pounds), rather it was just that I ate super healthy and have a fast metabolism. However, aside from being thin, there were no down sides: I was really active, always full of energy, never got sick and always felt great. Initially I brushed aside the comments, but then I beg

Resolved Question: Refusal to eat but not to be thin.?

I have a friend that's male and he has THE worst appetite in my opinion. He eats but not often. Of course because of this he's a little underweight (Probably more than a little but not too much.) and anemic. I thought at first he might be anorexic but when I looked at the symptoms online nothing seem to fit. He's not trying to be thin in fact he could care less about body image because he always states that appearance is shallow deep and I am certain that is how he feels. He doesn't exerc

Resolved Question: How do I deal with my compulsions?

I have been compulsively counting in groupings of 4 since I was 10 years old. I count everything from light posts to the lines in the middle of the road to the music I listen to. When I am more anxious, I move my fingers on my right hand and count them in fours. Lately, I have also begun to grind my teeth rhythmically in groups of fours. I have temporomandibular joint disorder, and this new behavior has exacerbated that problem greatly. Today I tried to stop counting, and I mentally focused on

Hi Y!A, I've been struggling with depression and an eating disorder. Sometimes it falls into the category of 'Anorexia - The purging type' sometimes it's doesn't. I've been to many mental health professionals, the past 4 years. It has taken me over 2 years to admit to anyone that I have an issue with food. And, when I was at my therapist's office, I told her that I just, don't keep food down. And, I used to be a lot bigger so, in about a year and a bit, I've lost almost 60lbs. And, she ju

Hey guys. I'm 20 & my life is falling apart & I don't know how to stop it. Growing up, I thought I was going to have a decent life & that it was going in the right direction. Three years ago, me & my highschool girlfriend broke up because I became abusive, both verbally & physically. She left me, which ending up terribly affecting me. Don't get me wrong, I don't fault her for leaving me due to the abuse, but I just wish she would have helped me get help for myself, for anger/another underlying

Resolved Question: Is there any truth to this belief?
(Tue, 03 May 2011 14:11:28 GMT)
Okay bear with me on this and please at least skim the whole post. I was raised in a very strict religious household and I grew up believing that getting sick was a result of sin and that your positive or negative thinking could speed up or prolong your illness. I don't believe her, but my problems keep getting

The girl was left with her grandparents with rotted teeth, diarrhea so bad they had to put her back in diapers, and multiple bruises and marks. The baby was left in a car seat that was infested with maggots. Needless to say, both girls have been abused and neglected. They are now 8 and 10. The youngest chi

Resolved Question: Bulimia?... Maybe?....?

Well I'm a bit uncomfortable posting on here but I honestly don't know what else to do. I wouldn't say I have bulimia because thats the urge to throw up everything you eat right? But for the last few months I've been throwing up on and off. Some days I'm fine and I don't do it at all, infact I didn't do it for a week...until today. And even then I could only get liquids up which just makes me feel pathetic because I've made myself throw up and all I'm able to do is throw up a 6 calorie orange

Hi :) I started dieting 9 months ago and have now lost 70lbs, but unfortunately I made myself sick quite a few times. I've had periods of it where I would throw up maybe 3-4 times one week and then not do it for a few weeks, so it's quite irregular. I've gotten really worried lately though as I've thrown up quite often this last month and a half. I've been on the waiting list for an eating disorder rehabilitation clinic for months but only just recently got an appointment. I just read up on

Voting Question: Do you know the truth about fluoride?
(Tue, 01 Feb 2011 10:24:05 GMT)
Fluoride is deliberately added to drinking water supplies in the hope that it will help reduce the incidence of tooth decay. Many governments have announced their determination to add fluoride to all drinking water. The link between fluoride and tooth decay was first established at the end of the nineteenth century and there is little doubt that fluoride does help to protect the teeth by making tooth enamel - the hard outside covering of teeth - tougher and more decay resistant. When tests do

But my dentist won't whiten them prior for some reason? I'm really adamant about having them whiter. I'd be ok if it
