INFLUENZA (FLUSHIELD) Side Effects Report # 342917
INFLUENZA (FLUSHIELD) side effect was reported on 03/25/2009. Female patient, 47.0 years of age, was vaccinated with INFLUENZA (FLUSHIELD). After vaccination, patient experienced the following side effects: allergy test, pruritus, rash pruritic, reaction to previous exposure to any vaccine, throat irritation"Reported receipt of FLUSHIELD Lot #4998274 in 1999 to her left deltoid. The next day she noted fine pruritic red spots to bilateral cheeks progressing into and about her ears with a sense of throat itching and tightness. She denied shortness of breath, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, facial/oral swelling or rash elsewhere else. She went to the ER at work where she reports being given IV medication and released on a 7 day taper prednisone and BENADRYL. Her throat tightness resolved but the rash persisted another 2 days before resolving w/o reoccurrence. She has not received any vaccinations since. She reported the above reaction was similar to past/current food reactions which she describes as nasal/oral and skin itching, tight throat w/ sensation of closing off, runny nose, congestion, and redness to face with eating fresh apples, cherries, Jack fruit, and pomegranates. She has no problems eating eggs or cooked apples (apple sauce). She develops palmar dermatitis with carrots. She has had a similar fine red pruritic face/neck/ears rash December 2008 after using new make-up (where make-up was applied). She self-treated with CLARINEX/BENADRYL and removed/stop use of make-up with resolution w/in 3 days. She also reported total body pruritic hive-like rash within 24 hours after first dose of Hep B vaccine in summer 1989. She did not receive 2nd or 3rd vaccinations. Memory of events was unclear. She did not remember what vaccinations she received from birth to age 25. She denied any other vaccine adverse events. She has seasonal "pollen" allergies spring and fall (worse in spring) with watery eyes. Powdered gloved cause itchy hands/rash and sneezing. She is tolerant of Nitrile gloves. She has not had an Allergy evaluation.
