If you or someone in your family has experienced a serious side effect to a health product, you are encouraged to report the experience to your health care professional (e.g. physician, pharmacist). You could also complete a copy of the side effect reporting form or report your side effect to FDA.

Side effects reports are analyzed to discover potential health product safety signals. Some important reactions may take an extremely long time to develop or occur infrequently. Continued monitoring of adverse reactions is thus essential to maintain a comprehensive safety and effectiveness profile of health products.

Dilzem Side Effects Reported to FDA

The following Dilzem reports list potential signals of serious risks and new safety information that were identified using the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS).
FAERS is a database that contains information on adverse event and medication errors reports submitted to FDA by healthcare professionals (such as physicians, pharmacists, nurses and others), consumers (such as patients, family members, layers and others) and manufacturers.

The appearance of Dilzem on this list does not mean that FDA has concluded that the drug has the listed risk. It means that FDA has identified a potential safety issue, but it does not mean that FDA has found a causal relationship between the drug and the listed risk.
This is a report of a 82-year-old male patient (weight: NA) from SZ, suffering from the following symptoms/conditions: essential hypertension, who was treated with Dilzem (diltiazem) (dosage: NA, start time: NS), combined with:
  • Aspirin (acetylsalicylic Acid)
  • Sortis (atorvastatin Calcium)
  • Nexium (esomeprazole Magnesium)
  • Andriol (testosterone Undecanoate)
  • Diovan (valsartan)
  • Transtec (buprenorphine)
  • Chondrosulf (chondroitin Sulfate Sodium)
and developed a serious reaction and side effect(s). The consumer presented with:
  • Parkinsonism
which developed after the beginning of treatment. This case can indicate the possible existence of increased vulnerability to Dilzem (diltiazem) treatment in male patients, resulting in parkinsonism side effect.

Nausea, Diarrhoea, Pyrexia, Rash, Malaise, Blister, Dyspnoea, Erythema Multiforme, Dysuria
This report suggests a potential Dilzem Nausea, Diarrhoea, Pyrexia, Rash, Malaise, Blister, Dyspnoea, Erythema Multiforme, Dysuria side effect(s) that can have serious consequences. A 64-year-old female patient (weight: NA) from CH was diagnosed with the following symptoms/conditions: atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and used Dilzem (dosage: 60 Mg, 3 In 1 D, Oral) starting Feb 03, 2006. Soon after starting Dilzem the patient began experiencing various side effects, including:
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Pyrexia
  • Rash
  • Malaise
  • Blister
  • Dyspnoea
  • Erythema Multiforme
  • Dysuria
Drugs used concurrently: NA.The patient was hospitalized. Although Dilzem demonstrated significant improvements in a number of clinically relevant cases, troublesome symptoms, such as nausea, may still occur.

Gastrointestinal Disorder
This Gastrointestinal Disorder problem was reported by a health professional from UNITED KINGDOM. A 69-year-old female patient (weight: NA) was diagnosed with the following symptoms/conditions: NA. On May 27, 2010 this consumer started treatment with Dilzem (dosage: NA). The following drugs were being taken at the same time:
  • Cyclosporine
  • Lansoprazole
  • Infliximab, Recombinant
  • Infliximab, Recombinant
  • Cardura
  • Cozaar
  • Zopiclone
  • Lansoprazole
When commencing Dilzem, the patient experienced the following unwanted symptoms/side effects:
  • Gastrointestinal Disorder
The patient was hospitalized.Although all drugs are carefully tested before they are licensed for use, they carry side effect risks. Some side effects, such as gastrointestinal disorder, may become evident only after a product is in use by the general population.

Agranulocytosis, Diarrhoea Haemorrhagic, Disease Recurrence, Large Intestinal Ulcer, Pyrexia, Vomiting
This is a report of a 76-year-old male patient (weight: NA) from SWITZERLAND. The patient developed the following symptoms/conditions: NA and was treated with Dilzem /00489701 (dosage: 90 Mg Q Day Po) starting May 18, 2006. Concurrently used drugs:

Soon after that, the consumer experienced the following side effects:
  • Agranulocytosis
  • Diarrhoea Haemorrhagic
  • Disease Recurrence
  • Large Intestinal Ulcer
  • Pyrexia
  • Vomiting
The patient was hospitalized. This opens a possibility that Dilzem /00489701 treatment could cause the above reactions, including agranulocytosis, and some male subjects may be more susceptible.

Dysuria, Erythema Multiforme, Pulmonary Embolism
A 64-year-old female patient (weight: NA) from SWITZERLAND with the following symptoms/conditions: atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter started Dilzem treatment (dosage: 60 Mg Tid Po) on Feb 03, 2006. Soon after starting Dilzem treatment, the subject experienced various side effects, including:
  • Dysuria
  • Erythema Multiforme
  • Pulmonary Embolism
Concurrently used drugs: NA.The patient was hospitalized. This finding indicates that some female patients could be more vulnerable to Dilzem.

Alanine Aminotransferase Increased, Dermatitis Infected, Dermo-hypodermitis, Gamma-glutamyltransferase Increased, Henoch-schonlein Purpura, Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis
A 71-year-old female patient from SWITZERLAND (weight: NA) experienced symptoms, such as: atrial fibrillation, cardiac flutter, dermatitis infected and was treated with Dilzem(dosage: 90 Mg Bid Po). Keep Track of Side Effects

Note Your Observations

It is really important to keep of your symptoms, right from the time you start a new medicine. You can do it any way you prefer: in a notebook, in a computer file or using our online tool.
