I have got a course of these from my Dr and wondered if anyone else has taken it and if they had any side effects? I've read the leaflet that comes with it and some of it sounds a bit dodgy... what do you think?

Does anyone have any personal experience of this medication. Side affects? I have looked it all up and know what the internet and my doctor and pharmacist say about it but would really like to hear some personal opinions of this treatment...good or bad. I MUST stop smoking before winter. It is serious...the grim reaper may visit me before I am 40 otherwise (38 now and a single mum to a six year old). So, it must be done. Example: Hates smoking. Knows the extent of the risks. Loves his wife and knows his marriage is in jeopardy due to smoking. Multiple attempts at "cold turkey." Multiple attempts at NRT (patches, gum, inhaler, each more than once), all failed supposedly because there was no nicotine "hit" to restore normality for him. No (reported) effect from Chantix (varenicline). No success in combination with mood stablisers like Zyprexa. Not recommended antidepressants due to risk of mania. Belie

Anyone have any experience with taking Chantix(Varenicline) or Zyban(bupropion) to quit smoking? From what I've read it seems Zyban works better and Chantix is a fairly new drug for it. Varenicline is a partial antagonist of the niACH receptor and Bupropion is an antidepressant that acts as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, and nicotinic antagonist. Sounds similar in that they dumb/prevent the pleasure of smoking. Seems to me thought that the Bupr. sounds like it would work better since Varen.

Did it work? Did you experience any of the side effects "In clinical trials, the most common adverse effects of Chantix were nausea, headache, vomiting, flatulence (gas), insomnia, abnormal dreams, and dysgeusia (change in taste perception), according to the FDA." I am a smoker currently living in Beijing and I have decided to give up. I have been reading about Zyban online as a possible option. However, during my research I saw about the new drug Chantix which is reported to be more effective than Zyban and have fewer side effects. Is there a site I can go to that will tell me what this pill is? I understand that it is suposed to help someone quit smoking. I know that it is suposed to make someone lose interest smoking. What I would like to know... Is it an antidepressent? How does it work? What does it effect in the brain? So far all I can find is how great it is but it doesn't explain in detail. I tried to ask the doctor but she was in too much of a hurry to get out of the room. (I will be changing doctors.)

I found out today that Chantix was released this month in the U.S. But I just can't find out whether it is available in South Africa yet, and would really like to know.
