I took Acutane as a teenager- for about a year. I am 26 now and was recently diagnosed with Glomerulonphritis.

• Off Accutane for 20 years…

Off Accutane for 20 years and now had anxiety pop up, dizzyness & such.

• I hope this helps you some,…

I hope this helps you some, I see you posted this a year ago, I am very sorry to hear about your son. If you wouldn't mind, can you please update me with his situation? Maybe we can help each other. Thank you-------Deanna

• My family and I are positive…

My family and I are positive Isotretinoin/Accutane has some involvement in this diagnosis. Both of my kidneys are shrunken, they apparently are the size of a babies, or small child's. The Doctor's nurse told me today that doing a biopsy on them wouldn't help me at all, wouldn't show any traces pointing to the drug, and may cause me internal bleeding. So I asked her about how would a Doctor point the finger at Accutane if it was the cause of CKD. She didn't have any answer, and said the Dr. would call me to discuss this next week. There are lawsuits against Accutane that I am trying to get involved in. My Doctors don't seem to know much about Accutane and CKD, nor do them seem to care, or want to get involved.

• Hi Kittie, I was diagnosed…

Hi Kittie, I was diagnosed with the same thing, Glomerulonephritis, six months ago. I took the drug when I was 16 years old, actually, I took 2 rounds of it. Over the last 4 years or so, once in awhile, Dr.'s would tell me there is white blood cells in my urine, which I know know is a sign of kidney disease. They never told me the severity of this issue, so I didn't think much of it. I became severely anemic, and had blood work done, and my creatine number was very bad, resulting in a diagnosis of stage 5, end stage renal disease. I am 29 now, and on dialysis, 3 days a week for 4 hours each. CKD doesn't run in my family, nor have I ever been a drug or alcoholism abuser.

• Had complete hysterectomy…

Had complete hysterectomy in 1999 and developed cystis acne. Was 34 at the time. Prescribed accutane for 9 months. Worked great with the usual side effects-dry lips. Now 11 years later, I am suffering from a severe anxiety disorder with body dimorphia. Any possible connection??

• I was taking accutane, and…

I was taking accutane, and because it has psychological SERIOUS side effects, I jumped off of a 90 foot bridge and broke every bone in my body. ACCUTANE DIRECTLYYYYYY CAUSES SUICIDE. I am permanently handicapped bc of accutane. To concerned mothers, or teenagers who want to get rid of their acne, I am pleading with you, my life is changed 10000% because accutane caused me to commit suicide. I am 23 years old and permanently disabled, do not take accutane pleeeeeease. The fact that I can type after jumping off a 90 foot bridge is a miracle, but if it were not for accutane, I might resemble a normal human being.

• I was on Accutane for a year…

I was on Accutane for a year and developed problems with my ancles, knees, hips and back.
After stopping the medication for five months, the back pain remains and has has increased.

• All I have to say is yes,…

All I have to say is yes, there seems to be alot of people with serious side effects but MOST people have just the typical ones. No diseases or bones warping or anything like that. As a matter of fact i'm 34 and on my 5th course of accutane which all started at age 18.

I've worked out and did cardio pretty regulary my entire life. I eat regularly but also party like a rock star. I binge drink twice a week while on accutane and my blood work seem to check out just fine. I also do "other" recreational "bad things" and have had no ill effects.

I take my multivitamin, vitamin E, vitamin C, and milk thissle during this course and have noticed a slight buring sensation in my right kidney for up to 2mins at a time. It just comes and goes every now and then (4-6 times a week). Not really painful; just annoying. No problem with urination.

Other people seem to have this issue but without the accuatane but I can't but help to wonder? Has anyone else had these symptoms???

• I developed severe diarrhea…

I developed severe diarrhea alternating with constipation on a diet pill which also had diuretic properties- ie drying out the system. it caused major problems for my bowel and I suffered from hemmerhoids for a month as a result. I don't think this is an accutane problem , but perhaps the dehydration caused by accutane exascerbated an underlying rectal problem.

• Can Accutane be harmful if…

Can Accutane be harmful if you have IGA Nephropathy?

• Hello, has anyone developed…

Hello, has anyone developed anal fistula/abscess while taking Accutane?

My boyfriend began taking accutane and within a few days he had stomach problems and firstly, chronic diarrhea, then chronic constipation. After a couple of weeks he stopped taking the pills and asked the doctor for advice. The doctor said that the pills had nothing to do with the problems and so he began taking accutane again. Three weeks later he was unable to move, in horrendous pain and then in emergency surgery having an enormous, badly infected anal abscess operated on. Recovery is slow and his life is on hold at the moment - not much fun for a 30 year old musician.

I find it all far too coincidental and, after reading how these pills work (basically they 'dry out' all the moisture in your cells) I am convinced these pills are to blame. Has anyone else experienced these kind of problems?

• I was on accutane for about…

I was on accutane for about half a year back in 1999, im still suffering from side effect from this medication, joint stiffness, asthma , severe anxiety, depression, bipoler and something is wrong with my stomach most of the doctors ive seen cant seem to find anything wrong and pass it off as acid reflux, i havent had the money or insurance to get to a specialist so ive had to just live with it, which makes working and a social life very difficult.
I wish i never took accutane.

• Chelsea, I was on the generic…

Chelsea, I was on the generic of accutane about 1 year ago and I am experiencing some of the same things you are. I do have pretty drastic mood swings, random things make me cry and I have no idea why. I blamed my change in birth control because it does always seem to happen around the same time each month. But lately the mood changes have been going on for almost the whole month. Also, ever since I took Claravis its a little harder to think. I know it sounds stupid, but sometimes I stutter or have trouble speaking or it takes me a while to get a thought out. I know isotretinoin causes increased pressure/swelling in the brain so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. I'm happy I don't have acne anymore but I'm a little worried about all of these other side effects going on when I've been off the drug for almost a year.

• My son's doctor has…

My son's doctor has been diagnosed him with "Glomerulonephritis" which is a chronic kidney disease. He was on accutane 3 years ago and now is 19 and his kidneys are failing him. He also has gastric relux, severe anxiety, depression. He is on prednisone at the moment. I been researching about what accutane does to the human body and I believe this drug is a link to my son's disease. I'm searching for anyone else who has taken accutane and is now diagnosed with "Glomerulonephritis" (anti gomeruli basement) or some other kidney disease.

• I was on accutane a year…

I was on accutane a year and a half ago at the age of 17....I'm still having problems. First, my acne came back, can't get rid of it no matter what. Secondly, I am an emotional wreck! Now I know being on your period will do this to you, but it's worse than just being on your period. I feel like I am bipolar. One minute I can be perfectly happy, the next I am sitting in the corner balling my eyes out. And I can be for whatever reason! Someone made me mad, I am feeling guilty over something so small and retarded, I feel sad for other people, I mean the list goes on and on. Also not just emotional problems, but physical as well. Both my shoulders are completely screwed up now because of it. And the docs can't find anything to help. My conclusion: accutane is the start of all these problems. My question...Is anyone else experiencing the emotional side affects of accutane even after being off of it for so long?

• I've just turned 23. I had…

I've just turned 23.

I had severe acne cheeks, hairline and shoulders. I've been on Roaccutane for about 5 months now and when they increased my dose from 40mg to 60mg (actually 5 more mg than I should be taking as I weigh 55kg).. the acne completely cleared.

But now I can't sleep.. like AT ALL. My heart is beating so fast. I feel like the world is going to end. I get panic attacks in crowded places or if I have the slightest disagreement with someone.

I've got one more month to go and I can't wait for this to end and to get my life back. It's ruining my relationship with my mum and my boyfriend.

• My husband was on Accutane…

My husband was on Accutane in the early 80's and i chose to go on it about 8-10 years ago. I had hairloss (which my hair is considerably thinner than it was before Accutane), dry/ cracking lips, dry eyes (My eyes are still dry that I have to use drops), bloody noses, I have arthritis in my neck from an injury but the rest of my bones crack constantly... and I find it interesting that we have been unable to get pregnant.. all the 21 years we've been together. This drug was so harsh that it dries everything out. I don't have the cystic painful acne anymore but I still do have constant breakouts of the regular-type acne. I'm wondering about the infertility thing and if there has been any other reports linking this to Accutane. I'm just starting to research this now...

• i saw the side effects and…

i saw the side effects and didn't want to go on it :(

• I have been on Accutane for…

I have been on Accutane for 2 months already and I have dry lips, back pain and problems with my joints. The worse of it showed on my blood test with an increase on my cholesterol. I have been feeling chest pain and get a cold every month 9don't know if this is related to accutane). I think I am going to stop the drug because this is causing me mor health problems than solutions. My acne is cystic but just on my chin. I will talk to my dermatologist to see if there is another way to do this. I am concern about my health now when I used to be very healthy.

• Vanessa I had really oily…

Vanessa I had really oily skin before this medicine and now I don't. I have been off Accutane for 3 years now, but 2 years before that I took it as well. I don't have any of the side effects people claim to have. The only major side effect I have is that I can't tan like I used to. I get sun spots every summer and I can't really get that dark. The trade off is worth it though. Growing up as a teen was the worst days of my life cause my acne was so bad.

• well i got diverticulitis…

well i got diverticulitis from accutane and i would rather just have used proactive now. i didnt get my symptoms when i was taking it. but a few years later. so vanessa i really hope you dont have to experience it.

• I have rhuematoid arthritis,…

I have rhuematoid arthritis, and I seem to have more dental carries. Is this possible?

• i have had acne for about…

i have had acne for about 3 years now and i started to take accutane. i can defiantly say it's worth it and these crazy symptoms are pretty rare. this website makes it out like your going to die if you take this drug. i really think its worth it and if you have at all any symptoms, just stop taking the drug. Most of the symptoms are not permanent. My dermatologist said that none of her patients have gotten any symptoms, except the occasional head ache, and she just lowered the dose and the head aches went away. My skin is clearing up beautifully and my extremely oilly skin is now nice and evenly moisturized. no more oily skin! i'm just hoping once i get off this drug my skin will be permanently not oily. hope i helped! :-D
