Aflibercept

Diagnosis of metastatic hurthle cell thyroid cancer with 3 lymph node tumors in mediastinum.  After unsuccessful rai treatment and thoracic surgery admitted to Sloan Kettering VEGF trap trial.  Aflibercept side effect self reported by a male patient, 69 years old on November 21, 2010, weight 212 lb. Biweekly Alibercept injections of 4 mg. were begun on July 8, 2010.  Within 2 weeks I was diagnosed with hypertension(BP above 180/100) and place on beta blocker(metoprolol).  During next month amlipodine and lisonopril were added when BP remained high.  Now it ranges between 120/80 and 150/80.  In September diagnosed with proteinuria.  Aflibercept dosage was reduced to 3 mg. and hydrochlorothiazide and furosemide were also added to reduce edema in legs and moderate b. p.    Hydrochlorothiazide was associated with total body itching and rash and stopped.  Edema returned.  Foot pain and rectal discomfort(hemorroid) noted.  Otherwise well tolerated.  Exercise and physical work levels remain high.  No nausea or irregularity noted.  Tumors have shrunk slightly although they were quite small at the beginning of the treatment.
