  • My grand father was diagnosed…

    My grand father was diagnosed with dementia alzheimer's type and was prescribed Aricept. After he started taking Aricept, his condition have gotten worse and he actually died yesterday. He was 83 years old.

    As I think back what went wrong, it came to conclusion that Aricept was not for him from the first place.
    He was at the first stage of dementia and he was very active and healthy that he was not taking any medication until prescribing of Aricept. Except, he was  experiencing little confusion sometime (as elders do).  So he didn't needed to be medicated and yet, he took them everyday ( for about 90 days till he died) as doctor suggested.


    While he was taking Aricept, he had experienced the following side effects: 
    NauseaSleepinessDepressionUrinary incontinenceSleepiness/DrowsinessGeneral weaknessMuscle painDifficulty eating and swallowingDifficulty walkingInability to control voluntary muscle movementsInability to speak

    My 88 year old mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimers for 10 years and had been taking Nemenda for her disease.  We tried to change it to Aricept 5 mg and she stopped eating for 2 weeks.. We stopped it and we got her to eat again.. although now just insure and evening meal with small bites inbetween meals.  Aricept is not for everyone.
