Avamys

Major face swelling within the first few days of use, with a rush to the hospital. Swelling reduced within 24 hours of ceasing use, and I thought all was well. This was around a month ago. I've since experienced swelling of different areas around my mouth on 3 separate occasions - not something that's ever happened to me before, so it must be connected. Getting a little worried that this symptom pops up expectantly again.

It has given me a rash like acne across my forehead, decolletage and im now noticing it on top part of my neck. Its so out of character with my body. I cant seem to find it registered as a side effect. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I was prescribed the same dose months ago but didn't work for me either. I have serious sinusitis problem.sometimes both my nostrils block,I breath through my mouth.I get lot of mucus running my air passage.am in a terrible situation.

Hi, I took Avamys for a few days (sample bottle), ran out, then recommenced a week or so later when I got the script filled - on day ?5 or so now I think. My nasal congestion has cleared somewhat, and the ultimate goal is to improve the inflammation in my sinuses which showed up with an MRI - possible cause of headaches. However, I'm beginning to suspect it is causing me to be extremely irritable! I remember asking my partner (a GP) at the time I started it whether it could cause this, and it was considered extremely unlikely, so I put it down to major pms. But I've recommenced and *bang, grump from hell again and sooooo tired. My poor toddler is copping it - I can't find anyone on the net with a similar experience with this drug, but have done with other brand corticosteroid nasal sprays.

Hello, I have had chronic sinusitus for 6 years now and I was prescribed the same thing a few months ago. I'm on my second bottle now and I have pain in my right eye, a sore throat, I feel sick and I have back ache. I don't think she should have precribed me it to be honest because everywhere I look it says it's used for pet allergies and heyfever etc. Seriously think about the side effects before you take this and maybe ask someone for a second opinion. The nurse practitioner never told me it can cause glaucoma! and I hope I don't have it :S ... I'm only 19 years old. *DONT_KNOW*

A doctor I saw at a clinic prescribed Avamys along with Amoxcillan to me for a sinus infection.  Everywhere I have looked on the web Avamys is only used for allergies.  Is there a reason that I was told to use it for a sinus infection? Will it work and is it ok to use with a sinus infection?

Have been taking Avamys for 11 days now. I have perennial allergic rhinitis. I had an ear syringed 2 days ago. It was completely blocked with wax. I am allergic to tree pollen, rye grass, house dust and mould. I have had several sinus infections over the last 6 months, and have just had 2 courses of different antibiotics.  My nasal airways get blocked.
My current side effects on taking Avamys are:-
Slight bleeding on blowing my nose.
Slight burning in my nasal passages just below my eyes.
Occasional headaches.
My eyes are stinging.
However my congestion appears to be better. I hope that these side effects will go. If they don't I intend ringing my G.P. again after I have been on Avamys for 2 weeks.

I made an entry previously on the 20th August 2010. In reading through the comments I came across a mother who was having a lot of difficulty with administering the nasal spray due to the design of the spray bottle, so much so that she threw two bottles out.

I experienced the same problem and reported it to my pharmacist for her to inform the Rep when he calls and I also intend to write directly to the company.

In the meantime I have come up with a novel way of using a spray bottle that is not spraying at all or properly.

Cut the two stickers with a knive on either side of the bottle. Then put pressure with your finger on the top of the trigger while at the same time put a blunt knife or back of a spoon handle in and gently force the housing off the bottle. You should be left with a number of pieces of which the only one you require is the the top part that fits over the bottle.

Should this part come away with the rest of the housing just do the following. On either side of the top of the bottle you will see two grouves with slide over the two tracks on either side of the inside of the top of the housing.  just push down on this to adminiser your dose it works every time, only to be sure you prime it when required.

I hope this helps and saves people some money.

I have had a nasal drip for as long as I can remember. I am now 50 years old. I had two operations on my nose in the past nine months. This made no difference. My consultant then put me on Avamys and Rhinetec. As it states on the directions that you must use the nasal spray at night, I asked my consultant if it mattered if I took it in the morning instead. He said it did not matter as long as I took it at the same time each day, which I do. It took approxmiately  a week for me to feel the benefits of the medication, which are like night and day to me. I also experience the 'streaky' blood effect which is one of the side of effects. A very small price for me, considering it has competely chagned my life and that of those around me. I hope this is of some help. Of course consult your doctor first.

As I mentioned in a previous posting I spray with Avamy at bed time to try to prevent a blocked passage when I lay down at night time. I read the instructions and it says it takes up to 24 hours to be effective. Maybe I expect immediate results. Am I correct in this assumption?

My nasal passage closes up when I lay down to sleep at night time. I administer Avamys nose spray before I lay down to sleep but most of the time I still get a blocked passage. Does anyone have suggestions on how to prevent a blocked passage when I lay down at nighttime. I don't have a problem in the daytime even if I lay down for a short period for a nap.

My son has been using Avamys for 2 weeks now (been diagnosed with allergies due to dust) so we pump each nostril once a day along with an oral antihistimine. All seems to be giong well so far. I am happy with the bottle design as it fit's his tiny nostrils just perfectly.

Avamys works great. The bottle leaves a lot to be desires. One never knows when the bottle is going to work. I have throw out two full bottles so far because the sprayer broke - bad design!
