Avodart

My experience with Avodart therapy has been fatigue, joint pain (knees) and change in walking gait.

No samy, my problems with Avodart are joint pain and change in walking gait.

Taking Avodart for several years now but recently developed knee pain and problems with walking gait. I stopped the Avodart for one month and these two problems also stopped within three weeks. I recentlystarted the Avodart again and have seen the joint pain return within the first week. So far my walking gait remains normal but I may try alternate day therapy soon if it changes.

husband has been taking avodart for 3 years. Developed a tightness in lungs, dry, non-productive cough, lungs feel a burning sensation. Thorough heart echo tests done, stress test. chest x-ray, mri, blood work, pulmonary function tests all passed. Meeting with pulmonary specialist. Atrial fib, so taking spiriva to see if this helps. 68 years, active, plays raquetball frequently. Read your statement, samy, and wonder if avodart is behind this. Maybe his body has had enough of this drug? Hasn't smoked for 20 years. What did you decide to do?

I took Noten in small amounts because of episodes of syncope and dizziness and an erratic heart beat. My cardiologist prescribed them after a positive tilt table test. I took one half of the prescribed dose and felt fantastic having more strength and energy than I'd had in years but after a few days of feeling great, I had very severe panic attacks and disordered thinking the next day. A few weeks later, I tried halving the dose again and only taking it on alternate days but again the disordered thinking including some panic and aggressive thoughts and anxiety. My cardiologist was sick by this time and my GP diagnosed my symptoms as an "allergic" reaction.
Still searching for an answer as without help I can hardly get out of bed and can't stand in queques, etc as my heart slows right down.

when i take avodart for BPH i start coughing dry cough and get shortness of breath when i stop taking it the clough disappear
i wonder if any one else experienced the same side effects

I took avodart for about a year. I had no bad reations except when I stopped it. Then I got sowem weird aches, not sure if related.

Proscar, followed by Avodart over 4 years approx. Total Disaster. Three years on , at 65 years old, after stopping these things on GP's advice, libido is still next to zero and erectile dysfunction is the order of the day. I blame the specialists. Because of a raised PSA level they set off to "cure you". All they do is mess up your body. No one takes into account stress levels for increased PSA. Reduce stress and prostate gets back to normal. Now with absolutely no anti PSA drugs I sleep right through the night and have a normal life other than sex. My advice if they offer you Avodart?...Forget it! 

Have taken avodart for 1year and have lost 40 lbs.

Frequent urge to urinate with abdominal cramping, coupled with extreme gas and digestive pain, bloating of abdomen, rectal discomfort... this after 3rd week of Avodart use... particularly severe after lying down for any extended time... Fatigue from not sleeping and anxiety from not knowing when the next urge will strike... muscles in lower abdomen continually stressed... Will stop taking Avodart for a few days to see if things stabilize... 
Can't function normally. Thanks for everyone who posted their experiences... it helped me feel more comfortable with my own situation and taking decisions.

I took avodart for 6 months. Horrible anxiety attacks. I never made the connection. I stopped because I developed pain during ejaculation. Still didnt connect the two. This was diagnosed as prostititus. After numerous attempts to cure with antibioitcs it went away as did the anxiety when I ran out of avodart which I was taking for hairloss. Once the next shipment of avodart came in I started again and anxiety returned, which is when i made the connection. I tried once more and anxiety came right back for me.

I am certain this drug is not for me.

I just started taking Avodart about a week ago and 3 days ago I started getting a headache and the back of my neck and head are sore and stiff.

I also had severe back, neck and joint pain on Avodart

I have been on Avodart for a few weeks and experienced extreme anxiety which caused my bp to go over 200 and ended up in the ER.  I feel like I am in a fog.  My neck and back were killing me with pain.  I was fatigued, depressed....this drug is poison to me!!  I am off of it for 2 days now and NEVER again!

I have had terrible things happen....anxiety, depression, high blood pressure due to anxiety etc etc....hard to breath   feel like i am in a fog  getting off

Took avodart for three weeks. Experianced terrible joint discomfort  ie: ankels,knees,shoulders fingers ect. Also severe muscle ache and fatigue. Contacted doctor and advised to stop taking.Now only 3 days off and feel totaly diffrent already.This is a nasty medicine at least for me. I realize I need something to help my condition and I'm willing to deal with some side affects but not this. I believe had I kept taking this it would of caused me some type of harm. Use with caution and listen to your body...............

To add ---the urologist never did a physical, said my PSA was within range 07,and men over sixty have enlarged prostates. So get this prescription filled for Avodart and I'll see you in two months. This is an add on to the one below.

I have a constantly sore anus. My stools can be hard and small as stones and or soft. I find I have little bouts of urination, sometimes just six dribbles.In the night I'll waken up to go, then go back to sleep and waken up at the beginning of a urination-- wet pyjamas. Really annoying. I've only been taking this drug for two weeks. I'm stopping it now!!!!  Is there anyone else running into this problem?

i've benn taking avodart now for about 1 week and am now experiencing the same frequent urination/8/12 times daily with weak stream that lasts average about 3-5 seconds with some nausea but still get hungry constantly and luckily haven't vomited yet but my bowel movements have changed about 3 1/2 months ago and mostly from my eating more veggies and luckily there's been no blood yet but the timing has change. with frequent diaharrea and i don't know if it's not going to kill be yet but my doctor told me it will halp me but i trust no one now. it's also driving my wife of 11 years out of her mind and she almost divorced me and if this ever happens i will have a nervous breakdown.

can someone please advise if i'm really dying here seriously or not, or is this all in my head, i am suffering from ocd/obsessive compulsive behavior, been this way for about 10 years now. i will accept any comments as long as there constructive thank you

I am 52 with an enlarged prostate and been taking alpha blockers for 10 years and 2 years ago i decided to take Avodart too (the ad said it reduces the prostate size). I didn't notice any significant change or improvement. Should I stop using it and stick to Omnic? or should I wait more than 2 years to feel the change? 

did you stop taking avodart and if so, how long did the stomach pain persist?

I took Avodart for about six months before a burning sensation started under my right nipple.  The urologist said he never had any patient with that symptom and doubted it was related to Avodart.  Mamograms, xrays and exams showed no breast cancer. About two months later the same symptoms appeared on the left side but now with hardened nipples on both sides, increased breast size, constant burning sensation and itching.  The urologist agreed I was one of the less than 1% with this problem.  I went back to Uroxatral.  I'll wait six months to see if these symptoms go away since Avodart stay in the body for about that long.  I'm thinking now that someday I might have to have breast reduction surgery. 

I have been on Avodart for nine months, I'm 56 years old in good health and have been struggling with knee joint pain and muscle soreness. I never had these problems until I started taking Avodart. I have read the manufacturers side effect information and don't see this listed anywhere in it. I have talked to my doctor and he isn't sure what to make of it. He refers to the side effects listed on the medication and that isn't listed. I am concerned about what else isn't listed that I'm not feeling and may cause permanent negative issues to my health. Is there anyway to find out if there was any muscle or joint pain reported in the studies done by the manufacturers?

I began taking Avodart and almost immediately began having intense stomach pain.  The pain is usually a burning sensation, but sometimes just sharp pain.  I tried taking it after a full meal and at various times of the day...nothing helped.  If it doesn't ease up, I will not be able to continue taking it.

Avodart is doing what it is supposed to do - shrink my prostate.  Side effects include a good deal of fatigue during day; also no semon.  A side benefit is that I sleep better than I have in years!

Muscle pain and fatigue in big muscles of arms and legs. Signficant joint pain in knees and wrists. Prostate symptons have improved but the side effects are not worth it.

Im 49, high psa counts, on avodart for 7 months, feeling ok, psa is lower,
But im gaining weight maybe due to being very tired, is that a side effect?
Been taking pills at 6:30 am , going to try taking after work around 4pm.
going to bed very early and never did before taking the pills, has anyone had the same thing?

if you stop taking Avodart will you erection come back , do u need to stay on it for life, no problem peaing anymore....was taking flowmacs but was told to stop taking it ...can you get a scan to see if you need to keep taking it..Avodart ? psa is good

I was taken Avodart for about 14 days and i had this tighten in the chest and it
was hard to breath for several hours. 

I am a 72 year old male.  I am on Prednisone, amoung others.
Good results for 3+ years with Avodart - I am now not taking Avodart because of the tenderness and swelling of my breasts.
Straight answer PLEASE.  Will the condition go away over time? Else?

My urologist gave me Avodart and he told me there were no side effects other than a very small risk of temporary impotence & lack of sex drive. The literature mentions these. I have been taking Avodart for 4 days and I feel like I'm dying. I can hardly keep my head up, I feel weak and dizzy. Frankly, all the drugs my urologist gives me seem to affect me worse then the symptoms they are supposed to relieve. Flomax made me weak and dizzy too, anti-inflammatories made me sick and now Avodart is finishing me off I think! >:o

It took about 60-90 days, but I started having very uncomfortable lower back pain. As soon as I stopped taking Avodart, the pain went away.

I have a history of chronic prostitius, together with periodic events of pseudomonas infection in my urinary area.. I believe that since taking Avodart, the frequency of the bacterial infection has increased. I understand that the bacteria is in a nodule of my prostate and and antibioitic treatment merely causes the bacteria to retreat to the prostate but does not eliminate it. Has anyone had a similar reaction?

I've been taking avodart for 3 yrs now,my prostate has gone down
in size and my numbers are good,my doc say's I can stop using
avodart if I want ,but he suggested I continue using avodart...what 's
your advise...........for me to continue use of avodart or discontinue
the use of avodart and have my prostate numbers monitored reguarly?

DOES AVODART CAUSE STOMACH DISCOMFORT? IF SO WHAT CAN I DO? I feel so uncomfortable.

I was recently moved from Proscar to Avodart by my physician. Within the first week I had ejaculation and erectile issues, within 2 weeks my breasts were getting tender, 4 weeks I was having chest pains, with 6 weeks I started developing a bad rash all over my body. I'm in the midst of going back on Proscar. I would highly recommend not using Avodart is Proscar is available.
