Azathioprine

I am taking Azathioprine for ulcerative colitis. I started this med more than a week ago. The one symptom I'm noticing the most is chest pain around the lower left ribs. I can't tell if the chest pain is a side effect of Azathioprine. My doctor said to continue taking it for another week and see if the chest pain will go away. The doc says it the beginning the body might need to adjust to the Azathioprine.

Been on Azathioprine half does for 2 weeks and have nausea, chills, fever, headaches, every joint aches and also cant stand up straight! My IBD nurse says to keep pushing through it and should ease in a couple of weeks. It is like going through a new kind of illness! I try to compare it to people that have to have chemo, you have to be ill before you can become well. Although it is the hardest battle i am going through I will keep trying for the long run. Wish me luck!I have a brilliant care team who are monitoring me closely.

my husband had to be hospitalized with liver failure due to Azathioprine. he had taken it for 6 months, prescribed by his neurologist because he has miastenia gravis and we were told that it would eventually take over from the cortisone he´s also taking. he has never had any monitoring for reaction and he was fine until about 3 weeks ago when he started to experience severe fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, shortness of breath, yellowing of the skin and eyes as well as an unusual lump which appeared on his chest. we showed x-rays to the surgeon who removed his thymus gland and it was not related to the surgery but was just to the side of his operation scar. we´re only just beginning to investigate side effects of the drug and are amazed that the neurologist didn´t warn us beforehand and didn´t recognize the symptoms when we saw h im.

i started taking azathoprine four weeks ago and at first i had severe headaches and felt extremely tired. I now take it just before bedtime and i am completely fine now.

At first I suffered nausea, then after 2 weeks developed pancreatitis - very painful and was immediately removed off Azathioprine by my specialist.

Severe back pain, sometimes cannot stand up straight. Loss of appetite. Nausea.
Sore throat.
Now on 100 for 4 weeks...symptoms getting worst.  GP dismisses it as muscle pain !

I have been taking Imuran for 18mths now and I have all these side affects.  I was advised by my specialist to take the medication in the evening so during sleep you don't notice the side affects.  This works well for me

My husband started taking these tablets last week and he has had SEVERE headaches, fever, rash, aching.  He is also insulin independant and has been hospitalised.  The doctors have said that the tablets dont give these side effects but as soon as he stopped taking them his symptoms have inproved dramatically.
