I'm having severe abdominal pain, vomiting sensations, and watery diahrea. HELP!

I took the azihromycin 2 weeks ago and became very anxious and had many panic attacks. I've never had panic attacks and I feel like this medicine messed me up! I'm not sure how to deal and am seeing a therapist to help me calm down. Yuck - I don't recommend this for anyone!

Since i have been taking azithromycin tablets 250mg i have had a lot of bloating and abdominal pain

I was perscribed Azithromycin for pneumonia. I have a terrible cough. I get stomach cramps about an hour after taking it. After three days, everything tasted like onions to me, even water. Also it gave me bad gas. The hard coughing and the gas rendered me a hermit for a few days.

It made me feel very weak. I experienced nausea and bad stomach pain. I also had a heightened sense of smell. The smallest scents (bread) made me feel worse.

This stuff was horrible. First dose was 2 250mg and then one 250 mg per day for 9 days. 3rd days was experiencing crying spells and some loose stool. 4th day was more anxiety, feelings of gloom and doom, day sweats, achy muscles, strange body feelings, pins/needles, insomnia, dry mouth, metalic taste. Day 5, full panic attacks, day sweats, night sweats, tongue turned white. Called my doctor and told me to stop meds at this point. next few days crying spells and anxiety increased. I am now 6 days after stopping meds, and mentally and emotionally feel better (crying spells and attacks are way less) but physically I feel aweful. my back is aching and legs are heavy and sore. What a NIGHTMARE!! I will never take this crap again. How long does it stay in our system. I was told another 7 - 10 days after we stop the last dose.

Diarrhea after eating. Bad headaches.

I have a horrible headache which leads to nausea. Its been going on for 3 days, I am eating very little. I am very weak and I can't sleep.

I just had a very scary time last night after taking Azithromycin for a few days, I started feeling very strange. Lightheaded, intense pressure in the chest and neck, chest pain, numbness and swelling in the arms and hands. Tachycardia kicked in on day three. I had Atrial Septal Defect as a child, which was repaired, but I wonder now, if I don't have A-Fib. I've noticed the fluttering in the chest lately. Is it possible that this was triggered by a previously existing condition that has been missed? I was started on Azithromycin to be alternated with Ery-Tab for Gastroparesis. Now, I'm afraid to take either drug. I'll be seeing my internist this afternoon and will be asking the same questions.

Elizabeth, I lost my sense of smell and my taste too. That was 3rd of May 2011. It is 8th of August and I still havent got it back yet. Have you got yours back yet?

Hello will Azithromycin make you not sleep ever since i have been taking this i have not slept but 6 hours in three days?

When I took this medicine the first 2 days I was running to the bathroom with diarrhea and after that muscle pains, abdominal paid, even in week 4 after I took this horrible medicine...How long this last? Shall I be concerned now? Oh and an iron taste in my mouth...

I would like to know if my taste and smell will come back eventually?

HI, im a healthy 24yr old male(normally!), had 2 x 200mg suprax and 4 x 250mg azithromycin all at once as the doctor said , for the treatment of gonoreha ewww and possibly chlamydia 4 days ago had discharge from penis which disapeared no more than2 days into treatment, within 4 hours of taking them i had stomach cramps ,diareah, the next day kept having anxiety attacks getting red and hot, heart pounding, sweating. next day had head ache and felt tired, weak and felt sick, waking in middle of night woke up heart pounding sweating finaly got to sleep and woke up hour later heart pounding cudnt get back to sleep,feel very anxious then start to panick! also got back pain, sore throat, loose stools, so far a fucking horrible antibiotic wont be taking these again what a horrible experiencs slowly starting to feel a bit better seems to stay in the body for a long time!

I am on my 5th day and still feel terrible. Just as bad as I was when I went to the Doctor. Ill give it a couple more days, then I'll have to go back to the doctor. This has been the woarse cold flue or whatever it is. I have had in forever. >:o

i just took the last dose of azithromycin ank my skyn is getting red

I was prescribed a 6 unit pack of 250mg azithromycin, directions say to take 2 tablets on first day and 1 tablet for 4 remaining days. I mistakenly took just 1 tablet on day 1. I am still taking remainder of pack, for a total of 6 days. Will this still be affective? Much thanks.

I took the medication a week ago.The first day I was fine.The next day i had diarrhea and bad headache.The worst came 1 days later.I could not sleep,because my body was in so much pain,I could not move.I could not sleep on my stomach,side or on my back.Every position i tried my whole body was in pain.I had to sit up to stop the pain.i even took hot bath to stop my pain in my legs and took Tylenol,but it only helped for a little while and the pain came back.I went to the doctor and she gave me a steriod shot for the allergic reaction i had from the medication and prescribed muscle relaxer for the pain.the shot helped a little,but i still feel some pain in my legs

I just took the medicine yesterday evening,and within the first few hours I was fine. But then I was having diarrhea and an hour after that I began to feel stomach cramping and pains. Over the same night I began to feel dizzy and lightheaded accompanied by nausa. The worst though would have to be the insomnia, rapid heartbeat and nervousness. One side effect that I had that I thought was weird was when I woke up after my only 2hours of sleep that night I had a bad taste in my mouth.

This is my third day on medication and I'm stopping it. Mind can't rest ,nightmares,stomach sick,smells are making me sick. Dizzy.confusion,can't work.
After one day chest stopped hurting,throat.nose have no cold symbols. I'm not taking it ever again.

I feel the same way and i just took this medication - how are you feeling now?

my child (4yrs old) was precribed with azithromycin 200/5ml for 5 days due to a ear infection, he finishes last Tuesday and start with diarrhea 2 days later he ends the treatment (th) today is Tuesday (1 week later) and has a severe diarrhea,I'm scare....=( I'm about to go to the pharmacy to ask if that is normal...

It has been 3 almost 4 days since my las Z-pack dose.  Since then I have had nausa and vomiting, the thought or smell of food --UGH.  my skin is very itchy.  No hives or rash just very itchy.  How long can I expect these side effects to last?

i took azithro 500mg at night. the same night i woke up with panic attacks. heart racing, couldnt catch my breath.

the next dosage 2 nights later ( every 3 days dosage) i took it but only 250 mg. the next day i woke up and could not move any of my joints. they were swollen and seized. i was swollen and very stiff for 19 days. it is now 4 months after the first dosage and i still have weeks at a time pain. right now, my left hand is swollen ,as is my right elbow and my left hip.

it is usually 95% of the time affecting my left hand and wrist.

i read that the pain will never go away. i am too young to live like this and do not know what to do.

pain meds dont work, inflammatories dont work, the hospital gave me one motrin pill. i took muscle relaxors, i took tylenol 3, i took an oxy.. nothing works.
the pain gets so bad that i have to lay on my back in bed and pray i dont move during the night. if i get up , as soon as my hands go over the side of the bed they swell up.

i do not blame the drug company but wish i knew what to do.

 I am sorry you are in pain. But did you not just say you have Pneumonia!?
I think that life threatening infection is worse than the diarrhea dont you?

Got into a deep depression in 96 after taking zithromax and again in 2007 after the same medication. It started with major panick attacks and anxiety and just got worse. The first time I did not think the medication caused it but when it happened the second time it was very clear.

i took azithromycin as recommended by my friend who is a doctor. after less than an hour from the time i took it, my stomach was burning. after a while i was vomiting. then i had a diarrhea and my heartbeat was fast. i was catching up my breath. the pain in my stomach was incomparable. it was extreme. i noticed, though, that my nose was no longer clogged and i was not coughing hard anymore. in less than twelve hours, my phlegm was no longer that sticky. the effect on my cough and cold was amazing. i wonder if there are ways to lessen the side effects of azithromycin considering that it is really effective.

        Kindly ref my earlier post on 21/9/10.  After 35 days of medication against side effects of azithromycin from different doctors, finally at the end of september 2010 I got relief from the side effects.  Thanks God.  But still I have a doubt that the relief came automatically or with the help of post medication after consuming Azithromycin ?  Because I got relief after
stopped  all medication..... any way thank God........

I have approached Dr. on 25/8/10 for a throat infection case.  He prescribed ne Azithromycin for 5 days (500 mg/day).  On the thrid day I started loose stool ib the morning and experiencing urinal discomfort.  I approached different doctors. They gave every time different medicines for stomac trouble, amebioses etc.  but still i have loose stools. today passed near about one month.  What is it's reamedy? Is it any medicine for this side effect?? please help me....

Extreme sensitivity of joints experienced - especially hip, knee, ankle - which has effectively rendered walking painful and difficult.  Suspicion of impact on tendons, sharp pain around shoulder blades on certain habitual movements, pressure on joints from sitting/laying down painful.  Just finished the three-day prescription ... I'm asking myself how long are these effects going to last ?

   I have been diagnosed with bronchitis.  Dr. prescribed Azithromycin in 08/21/2010 (250 mg) 6 doses-five days.  
  today is 09/10/2010, and i still experiencing some of the side effects (dizziness, diarrhea, stomach pain, difficulty breathing) is that normal? I wonder how long it will stay? is there anyway to get rid of it? Should i go back to the doctor?

I am really tired.. It has been more than 3 weeks since i took the medicine. 

I am currently taking Azithromycin - 5 day dose.. started Friday, 8/20 for pneumonia, Sunday shortly after dinner the diarrhea started - HOLY COW.. talk about immense pain and discomfort!! The same happened Monday night after dinner.  Today is my last dose, I'm hoping this will be the end, but guessing it will continue until it is completely out of my system - another 7 days. God help me!!  Did the Welchol help?? 

Hello, I developed and ear infection around the First  of August, 2010. I don't recall every having one before. My Doctor gave a Z- Pak which is Azithromycin 250 mg on August 3rd.  On August 14th, I developed diarrhea in the worst way, it now day # 6. Just returned to the doctors office, for some relieve? They gave me Welchol to dry it up, which is a cholesterol medication. So tomorrow, I'll start back on my ultimate flora critical care 50 billion cultures per capsule good bacteria. I awlays google any meds to see the side affects, I'm one that rarely evey gets sick! But it does happen... I ran 3 races in 24 hrs this past weekend, I managed !!!!   LOL ...  Doctors really don't know the side affects these meds have.... Good Luck !! Elizabeth ..

i had a rash too!

I became very sick with a cold in June 2010 and was prescribed azithromycin tablets (500 mg) to be taken 3 daily doses.When I recovered, I realized I lost my taste and smell which has not returned as of this date (08/2010).Once in a while I can smell a fragrance very slightly and can very rarely taste slightly but most of the time I have no taste or smell.I am very concerned this will not return.Nothing else has changed in my life except for this medication.I am wondering if this is a possible side effect of this medication.

On the third day of taking this antibiotic (500 Mg) / day I had sudden skin rash and dryness in mouth and throat.

a week after finish the course of 5 day treatment. Itchy red rash developing all over my legs, very itchy. Wonder if I need to go back to my doctor.

I have prostate cancer and I'm "watch and wait" after it returned ten years after radiation treatment.  My PSA is hovering in the 7-9 area.  Two days into starting a zpack, I am having bleeding and terrible pain deficating.  Not sure if it is hemroids or what.  I am stopping my above medicine until I talk with my doctor tomorrow, Monday.  Anything you might suggest or educate me on possible relationship to the medicine?

I think I have a build up of bronchial secretions. When I get brochitus -- I do not get a cough. But I feel like just beyone my mouth -- in my wind pipe is a build up of mucus. I do not know to cough it up. Could this be a side effect of arithymycin?

Major panic attack caused by Azitrhomycin (Distributed by Greenstone). Discontinued use 4 days ago, but symptoms periodically recur. Continual prickly sensation on face and forearms. Anxiety symptoms come and go, managing with Xanax.

I have terrible pounding heart and itchy bumps all over my body. The is terrible for me.

really bad diarrhia and pain :(

A doctor subscribed this medication to me for a flu. On the 3rd day I had soft tissue blisters in my nose and my nose was swollen. Also my glands under my neck/jaw were sore. The 4th day my checks and jaws also swole up. *DONT_KNOW*

On day 2 of this antibiotic and it's not making me sleep! It's unbelievable...

Making my heart beat faster. Making me feel like my head is full, terrible headache, diarrhea. But it got rid of the BAD SORE THROAT I HAD ! I still have to take the medicine for 3 more days.
