  • My mother-n-law went in the…

My mother-n-law went in the hospital for some tests.  She apparently had a gall stone.  They gave her barium which we were not aware of.  She was in the hospital for several days due to waiting on tests to come back.  During that time the hospital NEVER informed her that she needed to drink several glasses of water to flush the barium they had given her out of her system.  During those days of waiting she seem to get worse and was not able to eliminate.  The hospital sent her home on Christmas Eve and Christmas night she had to return by ambulance because her body had swollen so bad but she was not able to hold anything down for days.  That night when they checked her out, we found out about the barium that they had given her.  The barium had hardened like concrete in her colon and it was  the size of a grapefruit.  By the time we found out about it it had already been in her system for 11 days.  They were not able to do surgery because her toxin level were high as well as platelets etc.  Her body was too weak .  A few days later she died.  She was an awesome grandma to my children who had just got back from vacation, running around in the mountains.  She was killed by someones negligance to not follow up with liquids.  If anyone you know is going to take oral barium PLEASE make sure that they drink plenty of water to flush it out.  You may just save their life.

Today - Face is very swollen, and I feel weak - like I have a cold.Hives have spread further, but not as red as they were yesterday, also not as unbearably itchy.

  • Turns out it was reaction…

Turns out it was reaction to the radio contrast media (the dye). Went to ER and received cortisone shot and benadryl, which is standard treatment. No symptoms beyond hives, yet... although hives have spread over more of the body to varying degrees. Continuing to take benadryl and zantac as prescribed. There is considerable itching.

  • My daughter passed away unexpect…

My daughter passed away unexpectedly June 29 at the age of 14. The judge ordered an autopsy, which is standard procedure in unexplained deaths especially in youth cases. A toxicology report was ordered to test for drugs and such. That toxicology came back negative. So I continue weekly to contact the Medical Examiner to see if they have discovered anything new. There has been no change in their findings until recently when they told me she had “Barium Toxicity”. She could not tell me what that means and the research I’ve attempted seems to go nowhere as far as an answer. My daughter had some testing done 8 months before in which she had to drink barium. She was given  2 doses to drink and she could only finish one. Everything I've read say that the barium should pass through the system within 48 hrs. unless her body retained it for some reason. We live just outside of Houston. There are power plants on the coast, but we are 70+ miles from there. Does any of this make since? Could death be caused by this? I do not know the level of barium, the ME just stated “Barium Toxicity”. We met with the detective this past weekend and it seems they are focusing on the barium as the cause because it is the only thing out of the ordinary in the ME report. I can’t get the full autopsy report until the police complete their report. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
