What are these injections for? Explaination plz

I have started taking Boniva within the last 24 hours and have experienced the worse bone and muscle pain ever how long does it last and does it lessen with continued usage

I took Boniva, monthly dosage, for the first time on Tuesday. Tuesday I was fine. Wednesday my body was in such pain. Every muscle and bone on my right side from my tail bone to my my neck was hurting. Today is Thursday. Although I feel better, not perfect but much better, I'm a little leary about taking it again.

Started taking Boniva 5+ years ago; when I first took drug I was incredibly achy and my joints caused me a lot of pain. This should have been a red flag but I stayed on it and this past year when I went in for my check-ups I had two high potassium levels in my blood reports. Then three weeks ago I got up one morning and had terrible pain in my left leg; so bad I could not stand on it. The doc had me go for a lumbar x-ray which revealed nothing; then 2 MRIs later I was found to have a synovial cyst on my hip. The doc stated that the boniva did not have anything to do with the health issues I have faced, but researching has disclosed these issues in others taking Boniva. I have decided to stop taking Boniva and I don't know what is next but I will just have to take a chance.

I started taking Boniva a year ago...2010. At the same time I started a weight bearing program for conditioning and strength which I enjoy very much. After 3-4 months on Boniva, I started having skeletal issues and muscle pain and crampging. My right knee which has never been injured started to become painfully sore with radiating pain down to my ankles. While driving, the concition worsened. Sometimes I could not walk after driving a car. This was all new to me. My right leg is stiff and sometimes feels very week. My lower back is also very sore and my mid section cramps from time to time. I have stopped the Boniva for the past two months and have found that my leg is starting to feel better. I sleep better and feel that I have more energy.
My jaw and teeth have also been effected; my teeth move and my right jaw is often stiff and sore as well.
I believe that weight bearing exercise will increase bone mass for me faster than Boniva and with fewer side effects.

I am 63, 140lbs. and in good health. After bone destiny scan the doctor put me on Boniva. I took it for 6 mons. I have experienced muscle loss and pain in my forearms. They are painful and weak.Sometimes it is hard straigthen out my right arm in reaching for something. There is pain in my feet like shooting hot pain. I did not have these pains before I took Boniva. I have not gone back to my doctor yet, but will in 6 wks. Are these effects of Boniva? Will they go away in time?

after 2 and half months of taking boniva i devoped severe shoulder pain that cause tendonitis and bursitis and abnormal bone formation
and will have to have surgery now to inprove my pain i have been in severe pain for 5 months now
boniva side effects says after two and half months of taking it u may have shoulder pain well they were right on the money about that
while it improved the lower back the side effect out way the benifits. this drugs is explosive and i would like to question if sally fields really took it
this drug or was it just a pretty advertisment no bravos for boniva
i have never had any shoulder pain in my whole life and i am 72 years old :(

Severe heartburn, GERD, Esophageal ulcer and stomach ulcers. None of this prior to taking Boniva. Directions for taking this medication were followed exactly!

I swallowed one Boniva (11 months ago), and in less than a minute felt a terrible burning in my esophagus and stomach. It's been almost a year now, and I am still getting "heartburn" whenever I eat or drink anything. It has not subsided...

Three months of Actonel, then 3 of Boniva with gradual abdominal pain excalating to unbearable pain.  Being doubled over with discomfort, I saw my GI doctor who emphatically suggested that I stop taking these drugs.  I had a liver, etc., ultrasound to rule out problems but still have upper right abdominal pain that is very annoying, especially when waistbands touch it.  The doctor said it takes a long time of get Boniva, out of one's system.  He didn't say how long.  Never again will I take these meds.

B Walker - you are not going crazy.  I experienced the same side effects on the 3rd day of June.  I got over the severe stomach pains, fever, nausea, etc. but I still have severe breasts, shoulder and joint pains in my arms, legs.  I can barely stand to have a bra or blouse touch my breast.  I will never take this drug again and I hope you do not either.  I will bone up on calcium, vitamin D and skim milk.  Good luck and I pray that we both get back to normal soon.

I took Boniva for the 1st time 3 months ago.  Dosage was 1st monthly as described.  After the 1st dose, I experienced stomach pain after a few days.  The 2nd month's dosage gave me stomach pains for 1 week.  Stupidly, I took the 3rd dose and on the 2nd day, I became extremely ill with flu like symptoms that kept me in bed for a week.  I had a high temperature and ached all over.  This has been a horrible month as I have developed pain in both breast with tenderness and swelling.  Both shoulders ache and I can hardly stand to wear a bra or allow clothing to touch my breast.  I will never ever take this poison again.  I am also constantly dizzy and lose balance easily.  I was in excellent health before taking this POISON PILL!  This is unsafe and needs to be removed from the market immediately before women start dying.

I thought i was going crazy until i began to research side efffects....i have upper stomach pain...periodically like a vice with a burnning sensation....chills, aches....I was told by the school nurse 2 days ago it could be a stomach virus and to expect diaheria...never happened.  Only pain and chills...the pain is easing but i do not think I wll take this medication again.  (i slept 13 hours straight yesterday under an electric blanket on high)

I took Boniva for 4 months and have severe stomach cramps, constipation, bloating and bone pains in my ribs and back and between my shoulder blades.  How long before this goes away?

I have to put out Boniva of my system.What to do?
After 7 years taken it my bone density improved but now I have problems with my jaw  .

I started boniva three days ago.. feelmiserable.  diaherra, back pain headach, exsdtreme fatigue and lethargic. now leg pain and weakness.. how long wil this last????

I took the 1 tablet per month bill. Within 24 hours I was in severe pain to the back. I could not get out of the bed without screaming. My shoulders also are stiff. When I sit I have pain when getting up. I will not continue this medication.

About 2 weeks after starting Boniva regimen began to experience leg and groin pain. Pain is moderate to severe, waking me up in the middle of the night

I took Boniva just 3 days ago and have been very sick.  It started with sever stomach blotting, abdominal pain, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, chills, serious gastrooesophageal reflux and I haven't been able to eat anything solid for 3 days. 

I'm not sure what's going on.  My left shoulder to my elbow to my wrist ache!  I have a difficult time holding things in my left arm for any length of time.  I feel shooting pains on the right side of my head.  I went to my primary because I thought I may have injured my arm somehow.  I had xray's taken.  Does Boniva cause degeneration of tissue in the spine?  It just seems to be getting worse.  I thought with the cold snaps we've had it was just Arthritis.  It was really warm yesterday and today I'm still hurting.  My hands were tingly and sometimes my legs feel like lead.

I suffered Blepharospasm side effect from Boniva for 5 years. This condition prevents you from opening your eyes. You have no control on your eyelids whatsoever. I almost had many accidents driving and physically running into  objects. I also had to get botox injections to ease some of this condition and it was very costly and did not really work either. I cannot believe when I accidently did not get my prescription filled who wonderful life can be again just to have control over opening ones eyes.

I took Boniva for about 18 months then I quit for 18 months and I started back on March 1st.  That day I almost fainted.  I couldn't figure out why.  I did faint 18 months ago.  Then I googled "Boniva and fainting" and found this and other websites.  I think it is probably the Boniva.  After reading the other symptoms, I think I will quit the Boniva.  This is too much of a coincidence.  I don't have any medical issues.  I am 51 and have osteoporosis and otherwise in good health.  I had no other symptoms.

I have been taking Boniva for one year without any problems.  I am still wondering what the long term effects will be.......

Started taking Boniva a week ago on Wednesday..started having some pain in my chest when I took a deep breath..by Sunday the pain felt as though it went completely thru my chest into my back between my shoulder blades and in my left shoulder. Called the doc that prescribed the medication and he's sending me to a cardiologist...well I'm going just to make sure, when someone says it could be your heart you hear and feel every beat from then on!

since i took a 3 month boniva injection i'v had tingling in my hands, feet, arms,and legs and then travelled to my face, including my eyes, lips, eyebrows, chin, ears. The pain got progressively worse with shooting pains in my head, back, collarbone[, pains in the esophagus and colon. I lost 11 pounds and I was only 123 to start. I've had two nerve conduction tests, both normal, a back MRI, a neck MRI, all showing no pinched nerve. The two neurologists have called it idiopathic neurology (meaning they can find no cause and neither of them have ever seen this before. I am going to take an endoscopy and colonoscopy to rule out their causing any of this, but I am more than ever convinced it was the Boniva shot since it all occurred soon after the injection. I've since read other patients comments on their symptoms from Boniva and many of them have similar complaints. HoffmanLaRoche has no idea when the bisphosphonate drug will go out of one's body.

I have taken boniva for 2 years and was told by a friend that one of the bad side effects is you could have gum receeding and tooth loss. Is this really a side effect? =-O

I took my first (and last) Boniva pill 15 days ago, since then I've had extreme pain in my jaw, shoulder and arm. I've taken two different pain medications but they're not really helping. How much longer should the Boniva stay in my system and can I expect to recover after it's gone?
