Bystolic

I take 10mg of Bystolic on a daily basis at bedtime. I've been on it for 6mos.
The side effect I have noticed the most is depression. I am 65 and I feel like crying at odd times. I"ve never done this before.
The drug has not had any affect on my sex life.

i take10mg bystolic for high blood pressure along woth avapro 300mg and hydrochlorthazide 25 mgand sybthroid175mcg daily. I was put on predisone for hives. could there be any bad reactions?

YES. My right leg and foot have been getting progressively worse. I stopped Bystolic 2 days ago. Hope the side effects go away.

The rash is from Bystolic. I started it and immediately got a rash on my chest and neck. I thought it was from the sun. 3 weeks in the rash is still here. Now my face feels like it's on fire. I'm dizzy and my right leg and foot are killing me. It's the Bystolic.

I have been taking 10mg Bystolic for over a year and have had some uncontrollable coughing, shortness of breath, tightness in chest and irritability. At first I thought the coughing occurred mainly during hay fever season and the other side effects occurred due to the A-Fib we were treating with the Bystolic. During the past few months, however, the night coughing is occurring more regularly and more severely. Even after reducing dosage to 5mg during the past two weeks, I have had five different nights with coughing that keeps me awake and unable to lie down.

I went into the ER as recommended by the AARP nurse line weekend before last, and was diagnosed with bradycardia from Bystolic. My liver enzymes, which have always been normal--last tested June 29, 2011--were very high. The ER doctor did an EKG and didn't think it was an MI, but my primary care doctor does. Are very elevated liver enzymes a side effect of the drug Bystolic? Is the lover permanently damaged or will it recover?

Weakness. Leg pain. Weight gain. Depression. But bp is great.

just started taking this drug and am having crazy scarry nightmares ?! and cramping tingling legs ? hope this gets better. scared hearing about all the weight gain too. im 48 and fighting weight all the time anyway dont need any extra.

it lower my blood preassure

when i was on bystolic it cause my blood preassure to drop whydoes allthose bata blockers do that to me and what can i take that want do that

I have been on Bystollic for almost a year. I have gained weight and am experienceing a very bloated stomach and gas most of the time. I have more aches and pains and get stomach aches when I go to bed. My BP is great but I don't think this med is worth it.

Weight gain, major fluid retention, heart palpitations, chest pain, DEPRESSION, anxiety,
BP still up 154/82 last check...gave it a one month trial...
Stopping next week when I see the doctor

Bystolic caused weight gain and gout

Well, I just started 5mg 5 days ago.....I feel Great!!!!! I have calmed down alot and I just feel good...I only have one complaint......I have like a ringing noise in my left ear with my pulse....I'm not even sure if that is connected to the Bystolic.......Other than that, I think it's a miracle drug..... 8-)

I just started 3mg 4 days ago.....My bp has went from 160/111 to around 125/78 and my heart rate has went down to normal as well....I feive el alot calmer than I did......I am also experiencing the tinnitus as well......I'm not sure if it's the med or not......I read all of these negative things about it, but so far, I personally think it's a wonderful drug.....I am concerned with the fact that some have said do not stop taking it suddenly bc of risk of a heart attack.......My anxiety is always high, and it has seemed to lower that too.....BUT I am starting to get a slight backache.............maybe it's not related to the med......overall, I think it's a great drug....... =-X

I've been on 5 mg of Bystolic for about a month. My doctor prescribed it for rapid heart rate (about 110 per minute) and high blood pressure. The rhr and hbp caused me to have a headache that NOTHING would touch. My heart rate is down to 80 and my bp is back to normal....and now I have no headache. The only side effect that I've experienced is a loss of appetite....which no one seems to have this reaction to the medication.I also sleep more soundly! I've spoken to my doctor and pharmacist and they are stumped. So far, this medication has worked for me.

Plus both my knees are hurting so bad since I have been on this medication and I keep getting tingling in both of my feet and my hands. This medication also caused me to gain an extra 10 lbs since I have been taking Bystolic 10mg. I bet my cholestorol probably went up also. The doctor is only concerned about pushing more drugs on me and I flatly refuse to take any cholestorol lowering drugs. But since reading all the complaints about Bystolic and the side effects it causes. I have stopped taking it and I am feeling better then when I am on it. I wil get rid of the 10 lbs now that I am off of this terrible drug. I eat a healthy diet and expect that my hair will get back to noral and look healthy again. Unfortunately, all doctors want instant results rather then getting patients healthy with sound and healthy eating habits. These damn drugs are killing millions of perople every year and the doctors are to blame because they all want instant results with al these drugs. They just don't get the fact that they are killing people with all the terrible side effects these drugs are causing.

I took one dose today for the first time of Bystolic 10 mg. I am extremely tired, have a headache and feel like I am coming down with the flu. Anyone else feel that way?

I take texturna and bystolic they are both tier one med on my insurance. They are really expensive with my insurance and my doctor does not want to change them cause it took us a long time to get my pressure in check. Any discount programs for these meds anybody has found. *DONT_KNOW*

64 years old. Good health, high BP extreme tension stress from work. Started lisinopril didn't lower BP, changed to Bystolic 10mg, lowered BP quickly, Constantly tired feeling, vey dizzy mostly in the morning constant coughing up mucus, lungs clear but cough sounds like I am sick. Everyone says on forums it doesn't cause cough but it's the only drug I take and started when I started bystolic. I do have Sinus issues and use nasal spray, used it long time with no cough. Lowering BP naturally, will stop this pill soon. Look into eating Aloe Vera, it fixes many blood ad diabetes problems. Doctors will always try giving you any drugs to correct a problem you made yourself by eating posioned food and laying around. :-D

I was on it only five days.  By day four, i didn't care if i lived or died.

I finally got to the point where I got zero sleep.  Couldn't function anymore.

Talk about slow heart rate.......mine went down to 45BPM and was hard to breath...........only after five days.

I was on it for five days and could hardly walk.  My shoulders and arms ached.  It is definately the Bystolic.  I read so many others that had the same symptoms.  How can a doctor say it is not from the drug. Menatlly and physically i felt so bad I didn't care about my BP.

I have been taking Bystolic 10 mg for about 2 years now. In the blood pressure medications, it was the one with the least amount of noticable impact on me. However, I have been extremely tired for this period and have to take naps at lunch time many days.
One thing that I can certainly say is that it has impacted my getting and keeping an erection. Unfortunately, the earlier drugs I tried were much worst, preventing me completely from getting an erection. Since Viagra and Cialis have sevear side effects on me-loss of vision, head aches, blushing, etc., I am in a difficult situation.
I wanted to see if their are others with impotence and tiredness or am I dreaming? I have noticed a direct relationship between my weight and my blood pressure?

I am having a lot of knee pain and cramping in my legs and toes in my left leg.  It is hard walking up and downstairs  What is causing this?  I felt better before taking this drug and have gained about 17 lbs since I have been on it. 

Doctor first prescribed Lisinipril and experienced the famous "cough" so switched to Bystolic.  Now going on e months into the new medication have severe itching, no energy, and now a horrific pain in my lower right side.  Blood pressure and pulse okay but these side affects feel like they are slowing killing me.  Calling the doctor as there has to be something better out there than this!

I took Bystolic 5 mg for 3 days. Immediately started feeling bad.Heartrate is still 117 to 125, and blood pressure went up.It is 168/125.He gave me Bumex 1 mg with this. I take the KLOR 40 potasium with it. I am quiting both. Can not sleep. Painful arms, feet, hips, night sweats from chest upward. Can not even walk now. Threw up at 4:30 AM. Beta has slowed intestines up. Did this 5 yrs ago with just  regular beta blocker. Yes, I feel like I am about to die. Better off with my old Furomeside, and Hytrin.

I have felt like Im going nuts on this medicine!  Anxity, lightheaded, just feel sick all the time.  I had enough it's not worth taking Im done!!

Horrible irritability, not sleeping, depression, overall this medicine is not worth the side effects.

i have been using 10mg of bystolic for several months - i noticed my pressure is better, but i also noticed that i have tingling in two fingers of my right hand, impotence and tiredness.  Has anyone else noticed these things?  I am going to stop this medication.

Sorry about your dad, but that could very well be true, because bystolic slows your heart rate, and it slows down the blood flowing from your heart.

about a month ago I had a dr. appt and my blood pressure was a little elevated although I am taking 300mg of cartia xt and hctz 37.5/triam25mg. My M.D., thought that I should also take 10mg of bystolic, about 3 to 4 weeks into taking it, I started to notice that I was having shortness of breath, like I was having an anxiety attack, muscle spasms in every area of my body, night sweats, I was extremely tired, terrible nausea, feelings of fainting, extremely low blood pressure in my left arm, dark under eye circles, with burning sensations, and adult acne in my facial area, signs of not being able to feel my toes on my left side,burning in my GI area, and one morning my heart was beating so loud, it woke me up.light headaches, terrible thoughts of dying in my sleep,and depression an understatement. I am not taking that anymore.

i just started bystolic 5mg on friday and it makes me feel horrible i have not had a good nite sleep im up all nite and it seems like my heart rate is lower now

Have been on Bystolic For 2 weeks , my blood pressure has droped to normal ranges, but i am always irretable and friends and coworkers have all noticed the change in my mood.
   I am always tired and just dont feel good , I felt better with the high blood pressure except for the chest pains . The cure seems worse than the cause.

I started on Bystolic 20mg a month ago.  I had gotten off of Lisonopril. Had bad burning all over my head from lisonopril. I still have the burning pain on bystolic, not to the same degree. Has lowered my bp to 150/88.  That is the best I have gotten since I switched. Much better than lisonopril though. I think something in these medications is causing the burning.

After two week my chest got tight. Couldn't breath right. And my back by my shoulder blade hurt. I was on 5 mg. I'm going to try some natural ways celery magnesium garlic.

gwinn246- thanks for sharing your history-I am on 5mg Bystolic for about year-have same side effects as you. My knees ache all the time- joint pain- shortness of breath-cramps- weight gain etc. will discuss with my doctor about stopping. Problem my body does not tolerate medicine well.

on 10 mg per am. Severe right upper abdominal pain, aching bones all over,legs feel weak.  B/P and HR great on Bysolic.  Just can't handle the side effects

I have been on bystolic 5mg for 2 years and have muscle and joint pain that has progessively gotten worse. I also experience stiffness and weakness in  my arms and leggs. I have mentioned this to my Doctor but he does not feel that the bystolic is responsible.

Switched to Bystolic (5mg) 2 mo. ago from Coreg.  Feel more alert, and less tired.  Memory seems to have improved also.  I really like this medication  - it is effective in a low dose and (for me) has almost zero negative side effects. The only potential problem is tinnitus that started 1 mo. after swtiching to Bystolic.  Not sure if its related.

I accidentally took my mothers bystolic pill, how will it effect me?

My dad was on both Bystolic and Exforge for extreme high blood pressure. 200's over 100's. He had a same day surgery and died 1 hour after discharge. The ME said his heart just stopped. Anyone heard of that side effect?

My husband was put on bystolic and is a completely different person.  He is depressed all the time, tired all the time, and has has several upper respiratory problems.
I'm concerned and he is talking to the doctor about coming off the medicine.

Was on Tenormin for about 15 years and BP spiked, so Dr. put me on 5 mg Bystolic, Cardioloigist raised it to 10mg, started having terrible cramps in legs (I have PAD) Family Dr. lowered it back to 5 mg.  Cramps got worse, did some research and found that PAD patients should not use BETA blockers because it narrows vessels, took myself off of Bystolic and went back to Tenormin, which is also a beta blocker,  Will consult with Dr. and find out what will work better.  Too bad Doctors don't research side-affects of meds.!

You know best about your body.  Some doctors think they know in spite of your experience.  If it causes you a rash, you are reacting to something in the meds.  No doc can argue with that!

I have trouble sleeping.  I have never had trouble with sleeping in my life.  Now every night I wake up at 3 am wide awake.

Have been on Bystolic for 9 weeks.   Doc says blood pressure good now but I have rash on arms and hands.  Rash breaks and bleeds easily.  Told Doctor.  He says nothing to do with Bystolic.  I went away for 2 days and forgot medicine.  Rash went away quickly.  Started back on the Bystolic and rash is back.  I'm confused here.   I'm approx 270 and 57 years old.  NO other medications taken

Bystolic has dropped my bp but my pulse still remains pretty fast.

I have been on Bystolic for 2 days now and will stop taking it immediately. I was happy with my propanolol and had no side effects with that medication, ever.  My cardio doc decided that there were too many side effects with inderal, tho I told him I have never had any side effects personally.

This is my second day on it and because I have been jumping and twitching all over the place, including at my dental visit, my dentist decided to put me on his pulse monitor.  My pulse was jumping all over the place going from 100 to 80 and then 95.  I was shocked that thot his machine was off.  He put the monitor on himself to show me and I observed his pulse to be very stable within a few beats.

I have felt like my legs are going to collapse and have muscle weakness and have been very mentally slow.  I am only on 2.5 mg per day.  Why does this beta blocker cause so many more side effects than something as old as inderal?

I also was on tis medication for a short time and experienced ,vertigo,hoarsness and a upper resp infection. I have since been put on topral.

So far (2 months) so good. Doc added a water pill, Hydrochlorot (HTCZ) to the Azor I was taking for blood pressure. BAD side effects from the water pills in a matter of weeks I went from active 47 year old to a 97 year old man. Stopped that crap and went to a cardio. It was 2 weeks from when I stopped taking the water pill and Azor. In that time I felt 100% better, getting strength and appetite back every day. Cardio doc put me on Bystolic, brought heart rate (90-100 resting!!!) down to 65-70, no more irregular heart beats either. BP seems to vary, mostly in the normal range 120/75 some times up to 140/80 but that could be attributed to my diet, very sensitive to salt, not always real careful to the sodium content with everything I eat.
So far I haven't noticed any side effects, feel pretty good/normal now (since dropping the water pill and Azor).
 Not every one reacts to the same meds the same way, when I suspected the water pills to be my problem I read up on them as well as the Azor. A lot of people reported serious side effects to those and others reported they've been on them for years without a problem. I suggest working with your doctor (a cardiologist is better then a regular GP) to find out what works FOR YOU, rather then just not taking anything. Might not bother you now (high bp) but years down the road it will cause other problems through out your body.

I have been on Bystolic sine the beginning of the year (2010). It has lowered my blood pressure and slowed my heart rate down which was as high as 90 beats per minute. I do feel much 'calmer' and my heart no longer feels like it's going to pop out of my chest. I was on a water pill which made me feel lousy; severe muscle weakness (some days I couldn't get out of bed), severe acid reflux, numbness and tingling in arms and legs. I was miserable and thought I had some disease until my doctor told me to stop water pill and put me on Bystolic.

I started Bystolic and felt alive again. I had energy, no acid reflux and no weakness. So this has been a very good choice for me. I will say though that lately I have been experiencing some muscle pain and weakness, I'm a little shaky (mostly hands). I am going to doctor to do blood test to check potassium and magnesium levels and other things. Bec last time I felt like this my potassium and magnesium levels were low.

Anyone experiencing muscle weakness and shakiness?

I been on Bystolic for 1 week,and i have not had a bad experience with it at all,it bought my heart rate down to normal,and im one person thats not complaining about it.

i've been taking bystolic 10 mg for about 3 mos now....I have HBP and fast heart rate...it's lowered both!  i haven't really experienced any side effects...NO weight gain!!  Gained weight on Toporol!!  Altho i have noticed that my hand and feet are very cold, and also like heratburn/indigestion....not sure if it's from the meds tho....I give bystolic 2 thumbs up!!  For all that has tried bystolic and has not worked.....sorry to hear...i hear your frusteration!!  

I've been taking Bystolic for the past month, (5mg). I've been experiencing several side effects including leg cramps, light headedness, tingling in lips and fingers. I've also gained 5lbs in one month and I'm extremely bloated. 

My mother was switched from atenenol to Bystolic (10MG) about 3 months ago. She has suffered from terrible leg cramps and I am now DEALING WITH SEVERE ANGER AND WHAT I SEE AS DEPRESSION. This is certainly not her personality. On top of that, she is texhausted all the time. Is depression common with this med? Her cardiologist switched her over to lower her blood pressure.

I have been taking Bystolic for about a month, my right leg has been "killing" me ever since, I have alot of knee pain, and constant cramps in my right calf. The pain just seems to travel up and down my leg,can this be caused by Bystolic?

Only on it for 3 days so I cannot tell you for sure but the HCTZ was literally killing me.  I take bystolic with lisinopril.  Male, 41 yrs, hypertension

Ok,So My Doctor just gave Bystlic to me I was on a different one and now this Im so so afriad to take this im only 33 yrs old and the blood pressure meds Im on it not lowering it enought..... I guess I will not take this med..

Yes I do.  Around my lips and in my r arm...it is scary...I also get very shaky especially when my stomach empties out. 

I have been on 20mg of bystolic for about 3 months and I have problems reaching an orgasm, i have been slightly depressed, I have gained weight, it makes me tired, i'm not motivated to do anything and loose bowel movements.  I havent experienced any of the numbness or twitching.

I was on Bystolic 5mg for 5 weeks. After week 1, I noticed I had a decreased sensitivity during sex. Basically we could have sex for what felt like forever with no orgasm. I can only recall 2 or 3 orgasms during the 5 weeks and they were very dull when compared to previous experiences (before Bystolic). I talked to my doctor yesterday and had Bystolic removed and replaced with a different medication. I hope it works better... and without this depressing side effect.

Do you ever get numbness around your lips?

What do you mean aged you. I feel achy on this drug. Not very motivated to do much and I gained weight to.

I am have been taking Bystolic for 1 month now. Feeling really strange. Numbness in right hand and arm even around my lips. Told cardiologist and he said he never heard of this side affect. I used to take toperol which did not give me this feeling. I have essestial blood pressure not ever to hightunless I am going to the doctors or dentist. I was orginally prescribed beta blockers to lower heart rate. I feel very anxious on this medicaiton. No stomach upset and no problem sleeping. I am thinking I need to come off or go back on toperol. :(

Bystolic is causing me to have problems sleeping. I'm having a aching in my hand and numbness. *DONT_KNOW*

NEVER TAKE BYSTOLIC UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES UNLESS YOU WANT TO DIE. This drug has been pushed on patients mostly by non cardiologists...pushed so dr gets a free vacation from them.....

always use old medicines that have a long track record....this med will be pulled off eventually....

it made me 20 years older in 6 months

I´m beginning to research the possible side effects of Bystolic beacuse I am getting a crazy sensation when i lay down on my right leg. It feels as if it was charged with energy and then it will shake uncoontrollably to release it. Ive been on Bystolic for 12 months and this started about 6 months ago.

I just took my first Bystolic this morning, and I won't take another. I'm done. All day long I felt like I was twitching all over. I'm getting little twitches all over my body. I had surgery on my finger yesterday and found out I havd high BP. My BP was all over the board - 150/100 down to 148/78. Today it was was 140/94 to 140/78. I don't know why my doctor decided to prescribe a beta-blocker right off the bat - especially one with so many apparent sinister side-effects.

Does this pill make anyone else a nervous wreck? I feel so ansy and nervous I am having trouble concentrating! I started on 10 ml. got too tired mid-day. Went down to 5ml. now feel shakey. I also take thyroid which I take 2 hrs. apart. How can my BP go down when I am so nervous? the one thing positive about this medication, no stomache problems.

I been taking this medication bystolic 10mg less than a yr and been getting spasm in my right forearm so I ask the doctor about that side effect and she said she haven't heard about it .

I have been taking bystolic for 2 months and i am so depressed, i have thoughts of suicide. It is not usual for me to be this depressed. this is the first site that i've found that had depression as a side effect.
