• Was on it for 2.5 weeks (1…

Was on it for 2.5 weeks (1 week taking 0.5mg and 1.5 week taking 1mg), stopped due to reading reports of people getting addicted to the pills. Given up for one month and 1 day now, everything was going great, stopped pills, was still easy to not smoke, no thoughts of smoking etc... until now!!!! I feel I'm going nuts, not just the cravings creeping up in a big way, i don't feel like being alive any more (if you catch my drift). Will get to a gp asap, i just recommend any smokers reading this to fully study this drug and know what they're/you're up against... read as much as you can online, reviews and places like here.... I'm determined not to light up ever again, even if it (me..) kills me!!!! (see what i did there?)

• Hi...I share your bad experienc…

Hi...I share your bad experience with Champix. My tongue is also sore and sticks the top of my very dry mouth, which I never can seen to get relief for. I basically had a "meltdown" and still seem to cry at the drop of a hat, have had a sinus infection which never seems to go away as well. I will NEVER take Champix again, it is the devil's drug for sure. Good luck, hope you get better soon!

• I have been on champix for…

I have been on champix for 3 weeks after day 5 i could not put another fag to my mouth it made me feel sick. I also have the overwelming feeling of emontion i just feel sad lonely and cry most of the day and i think it is the champix doing it also i have not been able to go to the loo 9 days with out a number 2. i feel complete fed up if i had know that it would have been this bad i should have carried on smoking. but i have quit no so i shall stick to my gyuns and stay a non smoker now

• I successfully quit on 13th…

I successfully quit on 13th August 2011. I was very irritable and bad tempered whilst on champix and sometimes felt quite low. I thought that was just part of stopping smoking. It's been a couple of months now since I took champix and I'm feeling very sad, irritable and really angry all the time. I feel so guilty as my husband and kids are having to live with me being like this. I am making an appointment to see my GP this week to discuss this as I feel this is not normal behaviour. Champix did do the job it's supposed to but I don't like the way I'm feeling after taking it.

• I have been on champix for…

I have been on champix for eight weeks, and gone seven weeks without a cigarette. I feel slight nausea if I have a tablet without eating. I have also had bad bloating and flatulance. My main concern, which I have been keeping an eye on, is a feeling of - I don't know how else to put this - emotional flatness, together with sudden feelings of heightened anxiety. I have also occasionally had a few dark thoughts, but nothing unmanageable. I really want to quit smoking, so am sticking with the tablets, but am also keeping a close eye on myself.

im on my last month of champix and have been getting this tingling feeling for a few weeks now. ( THATS MY RIGHT ARM THOU ) feeling tired , feel sick if dont take tab with food, but no other side affects. Havent wanted a cigarette since i been on these tabs.

• I've been on Champix for…

I've been on Champix for 6 weeks now & haven't smoked for 3 of those weeks. I finally feel confident I have kicked the habit after 30+ years of smoking! However, I have just come from my GP who has suggested I stop taking Champix as it's probably that this is the cause of some really weird swelling I've been getting in the last 4 weeks. My hands & feet sweel so much I can't even pick up a cup of tea & a visit to the loo needs to be booked in advance cos it takes me so long to get there. I've had a couple of days when it really has been that bad. Most of the time the swelling is moderate & it does affect my day to day activities. Having spoken to my smoking support group I am going to reduce my Champix to 1 per day & take a course of water retention medication that the Dr prescribed. Hopefully this will work, otherwise I am going to have to come off the Champix. I really hope I have the willpower if thats the case as I really am very happy to refer to myself as a ex-smoker!

• Yes my first time taking…

Yes my first time taking Champix I gain 30 lbs in about 3 months. My family and I are all bean poles so this was very noticable. This is one reason I am worried about starting again.

• Emotionally distant (less…

Emotionally distant (less empathy for others), Focussed (energetic). I found that I would look elsewhere during conversations, even though I was still carrying on the conversation in a normal manner(except that people though I was ignoring them or that i was bored).

I also found tha I don't like repeating myself if someone doesn't hear me the first time, which didn't used to bother me.

I have been able to conciously cease these behaviours

• I have been on Champix for…

I have been on Champix for 23 days and have quit smoking for 9 days after having smoked for 25 years. I have stopped taking this drug today as the side effects have been horrendous. I have experienced constipation, weight gain of 5.4kg (even after dieting for entire time), depressive state, aggression, unable to concentrate, extreme fatigue and crying every day. I have no history of depression or anxiety and last night I found myself thinking about suicide. My advice is that if you can cope with the minor side effects of this drug, perservere, however, if you experience depression etc, STOP TAKING THIS DRUG!

• I have now quit for 4 months…

I have now quit for 4 months and taking champix was the best thing I ever did . I did the whole course for 12 weeks but the last couple of weeks I halved the dose because of side effects of feeling angry and irritable . Yes I had nausea if I didnt take them with food and problems sleeping so I took them 2-3 hours before bed BUT on the whole these minor side effects were worth being cigarette free and not having any cravings.

• I have now been off Champix…

I have now been off Champix for 2 weeks and suffering fronm Major flatulance and acne. Is this a side effect of my body coming off of Champix?

• I've bought 2-week dose,…

I've bought 2-week dose, but am so afraid to start. I want to quite so bad, but I am fearful of the side effects. Have a small boy, and don't want to have any long term effects. Tried zyban three years ago and did not have major side effects. I guess I'll let you know if I go for it.

I'M currently taking Champix and my thighs have been turning green, thought it was just my eyes playing up on me. Not sure myself what this is.

• I have been taking Champix…

I have been taking Champix for 8 weeks now and have stopped smoking, however i have found that my feet have been turning green of a night time!!! as well at that they let off a really bad odor. My other side effect is my continuous farting it seems to happen every time i change from a sitting postion to an upright standing position. has anyone else experienced side effects as embarrasing as these????? i dont know what to do. my health has improved but now my social life is paying the price.

• I took chapmix over 2…

I took chapmix over 2 years ago and have been smoke free ever since, which I am very pleased about. However, I have had some issues with my heart, starting about a year ago with irregular, very rapid heartbeats. Finally I went through a whole lot of tests and was found to be in atrial fibrillation, which is a potentially serious condition of of irregular heart beats. I am quite concerned as I just read yesterday about a link between champix and heart issues and am wondering if anyone else has suffered any heart effects one or two years after taking champix? My heart appears to be functioning normally now but I'm also struggling with anxiety, extreme tiredness and a feeling like I can't really much (ie jump and dance like I could before) and sleep issues.

• Hi was wondering if anyone…

Hi was wondering if anyone had rapid weight gain on the champix?
I've gone from a size 6 to a size 10 in just 5 days and my appatite has decreased so it's not from food, I do have a marina IUD so does anyone know if the champix and IUD are causing weight gain or just the champix causing it?

by the way only been takling it for t weeks

• Been taking champix for almost…

Been taking champix for almost 2 weeks now, this is the second time I've taken champix in the attempt to quit smoking.
My first time was not too good, I only took it for 1.5 weeks and I really noticed the difference in myself and my moods. I was turning into an agro monster so I stopped right away, I kept on being a monster after.
This time much better, I have really calmed down back to my normal self, no more monster but I am having nausea with it this time.
Hopefully I don't return to being an agro monster and I quit smoking.

I should also say that I have not had a cigarette since stopping Champix :-)

• Took champix for 3 weeks.…

Took champix for 3 weeks. That was 3 months ago. One week after stopping I developed abdominal bloating and now believe I have a yeast overgrowth of the gut. I have severe abdominal bloating, flatulance, and appear to have become intolerent to bread and dairy products.

• My last post was 25th May,…

My last post was 25th May, how time fly's. I am now 101 days smoke free have saved $1452 and not smoked 2530 ciggies. I feel fantastic. I finished the tablets on the weekend and even though I suffered with the side effects throughout I just put up with them and I made myself more aware of what was happening to me mentally and physically. Now I know it will take several weeks for the build up of champix to leave my body so the side effects will lessen. My most noticable side effect today would have to be my sensitive, sore gums. I will follow this up with a dentist in a month or so assuming it is related to champix. Ive also noticed that my lungs are starting to finally clear themselves. I can breath deeper and more relaxed. My running and swimming is not a battle because I'm out of breath. My family, my friends and my partner are really proud of me. I can even get drunk and not be scared Im going to want a smoke. Opposite actually. I wish everyone the best on there journey with champix, its not easy, but can be a totally life changing experience and journey of self discovery like I found for myself. I an a new person inside and out. Loving life.

• Arthritis and dysfunction…

Arthritis and dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint. Alleviated by cessation (over cca. 8 days). Worsened again by taking champix again.

• been off champix for a week,cant…

been off champix for a week, cant stop crying ,terrible mood swings what do you do start smoking again or ride it out feel helpless at the moment :'(

• I am still suffering from…

I am still suffering from this so called wonder drug. I am tired irritable violent bloated overweight unmotivated etc etc. The list is endless. I may be a non smoker but if I knew what I would be like after taking these tablets I would never have taken them. I haven't had a tablet in 2 years.

• Been driving for 30 years…

Been driving for 30 years -clean licence. Had a psychotic episode 5/6/11 whilst taking Champix and alcohol and ended up driving car - caught over limit banned,. Have no recollection of the events leading up to the driving or indeed the driving or of being arrested.. Had been feeling a bit strange but thought it would pass. Actions were totally out of character and very scary in hindsight. There is no warning on the packet warning of the possible side effects when mixing with alcohol which seems totally outrageous and yet air line pilots etc are not allowed to use the medication. Seems to me that if there is potential for a disaster then it will not be dispensed but the one off life destroying situation joe public can just live with at the expense of the pharmaceutical companies profits.

• Day 8 and still have not…

Day 8 and still have not had more than 3 hours sleep since day 1. Cannot think clearly. Have no motivation at all. Just want to lay down and do nothing at all. Struggle to make myself eat at times. Does this get better??? I don't know how much longer I can do the 'no proper sleep thing'. finding myself becoming intolerant of just about everything...don't know if its the Champix or no sleep. Have also had the upset stomach, indigestion, headaches and tearies. On the plus side I am down to only 4 or 5 a day and they are becoming more disgusting by the day. Just a little stressed that I have to keep taking this drug for so long ( have read that in some cases they get you to have another 3 month course) when it seems to be doing so pretty serious stuff to me.

• STAY AWAY FROM THIS DRUG!!!!!!…

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DRUG!!!!!! IT IS RUINING MY LIFE...MY SPOUSES...TERRIBLE!!!!

• been on champix for four…

been on champix for four weeks stopped taking them a week ago...bad mood swings..aching body..crying for no reason...tired ...sad...weight gain..water retention...stomach cramp..the effects after i quit the pill are worse and they are getting worse went to docs today only to be told i couldn't possibly be the champix must be somethng else...so went for blood tests and so forth...i am exhausted..

• I have been taking champix…

I have been taking champix for 11 weeks (10 weeks non smoker) but now I have totally stopped taking the tablets. The first few weeks I couldn't believe how much of an amazing drug this is/was. I had no cravings, no interest in ciggys.. just felt sick when i took them, but i could live with that so all was well. HOWEVER in the last 6 weeks my temper has got worse, i cant stand interacting with people, holding long conversations, no attention span, increased appetite - substantial weight gain, bleeding gums, dry mouth, flatulence - v bad/noticeable, bloated nearly all the time, irregular sleep patterns - waking in the nite and not able to get back to sleep, waking up in the morning as if i had a severe hangover, struggling to motivate myself to do anything - I generally couldn't be bothered to do anything, always tired BUT the depression slowly creeps up. i can see why some of the horror stories are true. i have not noticed it and it has taken several people to actually point all of this out to me. I have lost interest in everything - the wife has said she has not seen me smile or laugh in weeks. To the point we have had serious discussions about our relationship and my temper. I have stopped taking them and already in 3 days there has been a remarkable difference in my character and i actually have smiled and shared a joke. i feel different - maybe better, but still posses some of the above effects. i suppose this will take time to wear off.
having read this and other forums its quite surprisingly how many side effects i have actually suffered, some worse than others. i feel confident enough not to smoke anymore and now appreciate that it will be will power to carry me through however i do feel i should have been made aware of the potential side effects and i do think the companies have released this on a bit of a whim. i have also previously tried Zyban and didn't find the side effects as bad however i was smoking again after 3 months.. would i recommend it?? hmm good question - i suppose it all depends what is important in your life and what you are willing to gamble on, whilst i appreciate cancer etc.. is not pleasant - nor is causing upset and hurt to your family
but for 3 months i suppose i am happy i am a non smoker

• This is the second time I…

This is the second time I have been on champix, I gave up for 6 months first attempt..and some stress in my life I started again.

Nasty side affects each time migraines, insomnia, eye sight, mood swings and no tolerence for anything, constipation and gas stomach, cravings for sweet foods. Shocking nasea, which can be eliminated if you take your tab 1 hr after eating.

Both times I have had a blood test and both times my liver function has been elevated, so I would say that it is harsh on our liver.... The old SOL (shit on the liver) in fact maybe true,as it makes you very moody.

I also don't want people around me, and almost hate everyone and everything.
To tell you the truth, if it doesn't work this time I will not take champix again.

My husband hates me at the moment and is under the impression he's married to the devil, of course I think I'm married to the devil as I could take him or leave him whilst I feel like this.

I know three people who also have had horrible side effects and there spouse has been ready to leave also. I can well understand why people who have underlying mental issue loose the plot.

This medication needs to be taken with caution !!!!!

• I stopped taking Champix…

I stopped taking Champix yesterday after two weeks of taking it. I stopped smoking on day 4 and felt fantastic well so I thought but looking back I actually couldn't sit down and was some what erratic. after going on to the double dose I started to get headaches and nausea. plus I couldn't sleep and was obsessing about my weight. all of a sudden a massive cloud of depression set in and I could barely get out of bed. I felt fat unhappy with my life and couldn't stop crying. having suffered From mild depression in the past I was able to identify what was wrong with me early and seek advice I was told to stop taking then immediately. I still feel low today but hopefully once this drug is out my system I will feel better. not had a cigarette yet so fingers crossed I don't. after researching Champix online I was shocked to see how many people have felt the same as me. I think this is a dangerous drug and in glad I realised quickly what was happening to me before it wrecked my life. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

• Hi, I'm on day 18 of champix…

Hi, I'm on day 18 of champix and it really has worked but all of a sudden I am experiencing nausea and I am sick after eating breakfast and dinner. Has anybody else felt this way??

• I haven't touched base here…

I haven't touched base here for some time but pleased to report that as I approach my 44th birthday I will be at my absolute peak in life. I am now 65day smoke free have saved just over $1000.00 and not smoked approx 1700 ciggies. That makes me feel f-ing fantastic. My life has also taken a complete 360 turn around. On my journey to quit smoking I made the decision to change my whole life. My diet is perfect, I've dropped 8.5kg, getting back to being super fit again, can swim my 1.5km again with not too much effort. I feel and look awesome. After been on my own for the last 10years I even met my now boyfriend just 2 weeks into being smoke free. Life is GREAT. Though it hasn't been easy. I suffered along the way and still do. I am constantly suffering nausea, headaches on and off, tired all the time, lose of appertite, (so choose healthly protein, low carb no sugar. no junk as this actually make me feel sick). My moods have mellowed because I also changed the way I think, I now apply the theory: Keep it simple and find time each day to chill-ax. My boyfriend does smoke and you know wot I keep telling him when he mentions the subject that he should give up, not until you really really want to, not because of me. I gave up for me and no one else. I'm not repolsed by the smell, I don't like it so a good reminder for me that I definately don't want to go back there. I still today acknowledge certain situations where I would task and smoke at the same time. I reassess and change approach. I've also hit a few of lives extremely stressful situations where you would normally chain smoke. I think about it but also remind myself I don't smoke and the thought passes quickly. Another interesting relsult of champix is I couldn't take the whole tablet morning and night, under the advise of my doctor I only take half a tablet in the morn and other at night or just one tablet in the morning if I'm feeling ok, I have terrible trouble with maintaining normal blood pressure. It keeps dropping really low so I know in the morning wot dosage I need to take. Therefore I will probably taking the champix for another month or so to run the whole course.
Champix I believe is one of the biggest mind challenges you will ever face. Take the bull by the horns and go for it 100%. I can't imagine doing my journey any other way. My life now is completely different, not just smoke free. I did the total new life package and its great and my reward, the man that entered my life. Doesn't get much better than that. I wish everyone well on their own journey and even if my story helps just one of you then it is a story worth telling. cheers caz :)

• Im on day11 of champix,my…

Im on day11 of champix,my side effects are like most nauseau, headache ,have restless sleeps and my mood isnt good.Im still smoking though i have cut back significantly.I havent picked a quit date im just hoping that the taste in my mouth as the days wear on is enough for me not to want to light up.I do feel it has a positive effect in the quitting process.I just have to persevere untill smoking is a thing the past and survive the drug. Its hard i have been smoking for 40yrs and being female think my willpower isnt as strong.

• i have been on champix for…

i have been on champix for 8 weeks now, at 1st i relapsed every few days, now i havent smoked for 2 weeks, but suddenly am experiencing dizziness and headaches, i cannot physically drink water as everytime i do i feel like i am swallowing a tablet with it.... =-O

• Tried Champix 2 yrs ago--too…

Tried Champix 2 yrs ago--too nausiating. I'm on day 18 again now. doc gave me a script for bottles of .5 mg. no pkging-no cutting pills in half. Side affects minimal, but have slight acne, i love the dreams--sooo real/no bad ones. hip/kidney pain, but i think i had this prior to chmpx? Also had a canker on throat. it went away and i have a new sore inside top of my mouth. Doc says to see her if i got anymore sores so i probably will make an appt. One thing that scares me from reading other peoples notes: even after going off the Champix, people say the side affects don't go away. I won't smoke anymore, but that information will likely make me go off the Champix very shortly. I don't want kidney issues!

• been on Champix for 11 weeks…

been on Champix for 11 weeks and have not smoked for 10 weeks now. I am 62 and smoked since age 14 without a break so have amazed myself and many others by giving up. the worst thing for me was the nausea all the time but I have persevered and I hate the smell of smoke now.can't say I have experienced many other side effects, moodiness and depression I think is the stopping itself and not having that crutch to fall back on when you are stressed out. good luck to you all I'm sure I will never smoke again

• stopped smoking week 1 kept…

stopped smoking week 1 kept taking champix til week 2 but had to get off as i was having severe joint pains which i never had before champix . the pain was weird as it would move all over my body in the period of a day but most painful was in the hips. i have been off champix for 4 weeks and now am a regular at the chiropractor and doctor having major lower back pain and muscle pain in the legs. all in all maybe i wont die of cancer as i smoked for 20 years and still after 2 months dont have a craving

• I'm now day 13 of no smokes.…

I'm now day 13 of no smokes. I actually feel really proud of myself. A bit about me, I'm a 43 single mum of 2 boys age 10 & 11 and a dog. I have my own business and plan to build a house later this year. I moved to Queensland 3 years ago and now time to focus on me. Life for me is full on with so many situations where I would have a ciggie hanging out of my mouth. I only just worked it out 27 years I was a smoker. With only serveral years in there as a non smoker so say in my 43 years of life so far I have smoked for about 20 of the them.
J9.......I'm not an expert, just living the experience. Since giving up I actually ask myself alot of questions and one of these was why, you know I really still can't answer that clearly apart from I was weak, I copied my friends as a teen I was always the outsider as a kid and so just wanted to 'fit in with the group' at college. And so my smoking life started. Today I look at myself and right up until the time I decided it was time to quit I still can't give a valid reason for smoking. It was pure habit. Sure I had alot of crap going on in my life and sitting outside smoking gave me time out to think. All my friends are smokers as so the road in life I chose was revolved around smoking.
Today, even though I'm battling the side effects I'm planning my new road. I have evaluated my life and how it could have ended if I continued to smoke. I hated the way I was always clearing my throat, I hated the way I would feel guilty in front of my kids when those smoking kills ads come on tv. And so I went through the list and this has helped me to change my life. I've gone to the extend of giving up on my circle of friends because really non of them have been there for me in my quest to give up. I say there lose not mine. I will make better supportive friends. I now also have more time with my boys because I'm not outside smoking all the time.
J9 depending of your situation in life maybe try your evaluation of your life. You say your mood swings are bad, I too can have a temper and would fly off the handle, but since quitting smoking that was one thing I had to work on first or I knew I would do my head in. Too many horror stories with champix and moods that I didn't wan't to be a victim too. Now, today I work on 'turning a blind eye', choosing to ignore the situation, walking away and just trying to stay focused and mellow. It's hard but truly working. I'm a much better person. Hopefully you will too

• Last but not least, to confirm…

Last but not least, to confirm the packag pandora anhanger e deal in the A & F clothing at any time you receive can be important. Abercrombie clothing often can be found using the cycled cardstock bags with Abercrombie Fitch logo in the event you purchase them by employing the standard stores. in the event you purchase them from on the net store, they should also can be found with thick plastic material bag using the Abercrombie and Fitch logo on it. A causal plastic material bag without any logo may be the hint of fake clothes.

Cazza! I had almost lost all hope and thought you weren't coming back! I am day 7 of not smoking and 18 on the pills and as like you am still travelling the same, although my mood swings are bad! Or should I say I am so quick to snap if provoked, and am convinced I am provoked on purpose! I have not changed
ANY of my habits as I smoked for so long, everything I did I had a smoke in my hand. I'm so happy to hear your story Cazza cause I honestly thought I was going crazy and I admire that you are staying positive .. it gives me some strength!! Congratulations, we can all do this!

Hope your bloods all come back ok .. and you all have a great smoke-free day J9

• Hi all, I'm now day 11 of…

Hi all, I'm now day 11 of being smoke free. Glad J9 & AC r here. For a few days no one was chatting. Were we all asleep. So now I'm day 24 of taking these tablets and I guess I'm still travelling the same. I'm starting to put myself in more of the situations where I would normally have reached or reacted for a smoke and have had to say out loud to myself 'I don't smoke anymore' and carry on as a non smoker. I had my doctors visit today and my only concerns to him with the tablets was the now spasmotic days of being highly active to the next day stuck in bed. My blood pressue is normally low but now is extremely low, 85/50. So I'm off for bloods to see if there is anything else going on. I'm not feeling sick at all anymore I've managed to control that. No coffee or tea, just water, juice and a cold beer at night. My meals have halved, eating very healthy and have lost more weight. My emotional state of mind is quite numb/plateau/non existent, just going with the motions. Weird feeling.
I guess at the end of the day I can and will put up with the side effects if it means I never smoke again. We hear so many horror stories on these sites and I feel for these people, but please for those of us trying give us support with some really good success stories. till next time cazza

• Hey everyone, ok I am day…

Hey everyone, ok I am day 16 on pills and day 6 not smoking .. these pills freak me out though!! have been looking at side effects on the net and I guess am feeling somewhat better knowing that I am 'normal' but come on! I am hating it to be honest. Loving not wanting a smoke as I have smoked for 26 years, heavy and am determind now to kick this. First few day's of taking the pills weren't so bad but once I started the double dose it got worse. I spent the first 4 days of double dose on anti nausea tablets also and find I have to eat before I take a pill.

Side effects I have suffered so far are very much like cazza so your read has been very interesting! I have become extremely aggitated too and short tempered with anyone vying for my attention, including parnter and kids. I have been told I am just not myself or any fun to be around anymore so this is rather daunting! I am really hoping these are short term effeccts and if anyone knows or has been on them longer can you please share!!

Chris I also had the dizziness and swaying and actually reversed my car into another a couple of days ago, it was like an out of body experience and I am quite often feeling that way.

I am really happy to have found this forum! It might be my new addiction :-) Thanks fellow quitters

I could only take champix for the first 6 days..the nausiousness became worse and turned into heay vomiting..it was affecting my daily life at home & work, and the last straw was that my throat started to swell..so I stopped it immediately..I never did get to the stop smoking day..but have decreased it by almost half. I will not be trying any medication again to stop smoking again.

• Hi Chris, I'm not an…

Hi Chris, I'm not an expert but this pill is playing tricks on our minds so our brains won't want a cig anymore. Just imagine what else it's doing. Once your body is use to this tab it won't be as bad. I'm day 20 of champix day 7 as a non smoker. I still have days where I just don't feel right. It's a weird feeling, like I'm numb, not happy though not sad with not a thought in my head. It's like I have to turn the light switch on to jump into my body. Once the light goes on inside and my give myself something to do there's no stopping me and then I feel gr8. I use to sleep like a log anyway but now I'm the whole tree I have to rely on the alarm to get up. Haven't done that for years. You mentioned about your eyes, just made me think mine aren't as switched on as before champix I'm actually wearing my glasses alot more. I will review at the end of 3 months or ask my Doc next visit. Stay posted, I've found it a real help to use as a daily touch base. Good luck Chris, it is easy, just stay focus. Look forward to reading your story tomorrow. cheers

3rd day on champix but cannot get out of bed room swaying not seeing very well didnt take it today any body else like this!

• Hey again, hope I'm not a…

Hey again, hope I'm not a pain in the arse but I'm finding this a real help to stay a non smoker. Day 5. Feeling gr8 today. Coffee is definately off my diet now, it's the only trigger to making me feel nausea. Went to a friends last night for a couple of drinks and there were more smokers than non smokers. I found myself watching them smoke and it looks revolting! I can only imagine what I looked like. Today and mate of mine come over and greeted me with a kiss, OMG the smell of cigarette smoke on him was also revolting! It make me sad and guilty for a moment that that was me 6 days ago. I don't know how my son has put up with me all this time. I am so glad I have done this because not only do I NOT SMOKE anymore, it has been a chance for me to physically throw myself back into weight training, running and swimming which is making me feel gr8 so I'm not eating crap because I also changed my diet and with this extreme heat increase my fluid intake. I weighed myself the day I stopped smoking and in 5 days have lost 1.5kg so I happy. I just hope with all the horror stories I read that my turn is next to suffer.

• Hi all, I'm day 4 of…

Hi all, I'm day 4 of no smoking. Woke this morning feeling really tired again, actually had some weird dreams last night and my sleep was broken from about 3am. Also felt like my chest was really tights like I was getting the flu with a really strange taste in my mouth that has hung around most of the day. Are these last 2 side affects can any one tell me. Other than that I've had 4 really good days. Still thinking of smokes but not actually wanting one. I think I'm also a reformed coffee drinker as just thinking about it makes me sick so I'm definately giving myself the full clean up.

• Hi Lynne, thanks for…

Hi Lynne, thanks for your reply. Hard to believe so many people are suffering taking these tabs. I'm dreading how I will feel in a few weeks time. Hey for your champix hasn't worked, probably because you have had to deal with all the nasty side effects you've suffered. Don't give up try something different. Have a positive approach, use the opportunity to plan your attack on the ciggies and change your life forever. It will be worth it. Best of luck on your next attempt. Make it soon, don't think too much about it. cheers

• Hi cazza, I have quit the…

Hi cazza, I have quit the champix pills, nausea, stuffing myself with food, bloating, blurred vision, full bladder and not being able to pass urine properly, getting real angry with my little grandsons (out of character for me) feeling not myself at all and wondering if I will ever feel normal again all helped with this decision. I have been on the pills for 5wks and no smoking for just over 3wks....I sat out on my deck this morning and had a coffee and a cigarette so I am back on the slippery slope to nicotine addiction (which I suspect never left but was just covered up) and you know what? as stupid as it seems I felt more normal than I have since starting the nasty little pills....Hey, good luck to you I hope you can kick the filthy habit...

• Hi Lynne, Interesting…

Hi Lynne, Interesting to read what you just wrote. I assume your about to finish? I was asking myself that same question. With all the horror stories that I've read it really worries me and even thought I would stop the tabs now before they take over my life. But I won't because my side affect are only slight at this stage. Tonight I went down the social club (not to drink, volunteer behind the bar!) and told all my friends I'm day 2 no smokes and one guy I know did champix 15 months ago is still smoke free but also said to me he could quite easily walk outside now and light up. Doesn't miss it just wants one. He said the champix 3 month course was the easiest but the day the tabs finished was the day he wanted a ciggie. This scares me. So how is it so many people are after a long period of time are smoke free, will power or has that chemical reaction taken place in the brain. Hope that helps. Be determined Lynne we can beat the habit.

• I wonder how long it takes…

I wonder how long it takes for champix to go out of your system when you stop taking the pills and if you start craving nicotine again?

• I'm day 2 of no smokes. …

I'm day 2 of no smokes. Yesterday when I got up to really focused on changing that morning ritual. My first coffee mad me feel that sickness again and I hadn't even taken my tablet. After the tab I only manage 1/2 the coffee. A cuppa tea didn't work either. So I sat and really though about it....coffee, cigie, coffee, cigie, so I decided to get my juicer out and start my juices again. (Thats what I did 10 years ago when I was a fitness nut and non-smoker) I eat healthy anyway but just putting more fresh produce in my diet yesterday that sickness virtually vanished. So it made me think with all the toxins coming out of the body, the body needs to repair itself so the nutrients we put in is going to aid that recovery. Can anyone shed some light on that theory???? I also decided yesterday that if I was going to be smoke free part of that routine change I was going to throw myself into my exercise, I worked the cross trainer and then bar bell, for about 30 minutes. Then I was stuffed. No desire to smoke at all, but had to keep reminding myself I didn't anymore. Also last night went for swim felt great compared to last week. Today thinking about the smokes abit more but no desire to have one. Have exercised for 45 minutes this morning, didn't bother with the coffee, juices instead. Actually feel great, better than the first 2 weeks when I was still smoking with all those side effects.

• Hi all, I'm on day 9 of no…

Hi all, I'm on day 9 of no smokes and day 21 of the tablets. I'm so pleased I've found them! My tip for the feeling sick with the tablets is bite it in half and have it with water then half an hour later repeat. I was really sick after taking my first higher dose pill and thought that if it was going to be like that every morning I'd have to stop! It was like morning sickness again! So anyway the next morning did the half at a time thing and this has really worked for me. I've never been one for breakfast usually a cuppa and a ciggie :)
Side effects, ok as a lady I don't Like to admit it, but Crikey my flatulence is bad!
And bloated tummy too, hopefully this will ease off no suicidal thoughts, and I've suffered with depression in the past so pleased about that as I. Read so many horror stories online!
My head feels so much clearer, I don't stink like an ashtray and I no longer have horrid yellow finger nails! I have more money in my purse atthe end of the week and the knowledge that I've done a fantastic thing for myself And my children. No longer is my life being controlled by a poxy little White stick. It's my life and I've finally got it back!! Thank you champix :)

• I do not recommend Champix…

I do not recommend Champix to anyone! while it may work to get you to quitm, the long term side effects are not pleasant! I used champix to quit smoking 3 years ago, granted I did quit and have for just over 3 years. But in that three years, I have gained over 30 pounds and am unable to get it off even with proper eating and execrise. I used to weigh 110 pounds and couldn't gain an ounce if I tried!
I started to become argumentative, and lack concentration, and was making errors at work that I normally wouldn't make. In the end I was laid off and I know it is because of the above, I was not me! and am still not today.
Champix needs a big lawsuit for not clearly warning against side effects! I have heard of many people who have used this drug and reported effects on thier thyroid. It sucks and I want my quality of life back!

• Hi I started with Champix…

Hi I started with Champix 8 weeks ago and stopped smoking 6 weeks ago, but I feel tired all the time, when I first stopped I felt great and wondered why I ever smoked in the first place. The other side effects that I am having is the constant feeling sick, slightly depressed, can't remember anything important, shout at nearly all the drivers on the road whilst driving and I bite at anything. Not normally argumentative but now actively look to have a go at someone or something. My food intake has increased 5 fold, I just want to graze all day long. My taste buds are strange, and my mouth is constantly dry. I do not like taking these pills and really looking forward to coming off them, I do not want to smoke anymore, but scared that I will if I stop taking them before the end of my 3 months.
I am looking forward to having a good nights sleep and not having any weird dreams, which the next morning I actually wonder if they are real. I am a professional manager who normally is a live wire and full of get up and go, but now just want to sit in a corner and sleep. Any suggestions????

• Thanx Lynne. …

Thanx Lynne. I eat a reasonably healthy diet anyway and reasonably fit too, my only down side is that I smoke. I'm also playing with my diet and having smaller meals often with more protein. Even though at times the nausea kills me I've actually lost abit of weight and getting my head into throwing my body full on into my physical training. Eating shit food doesn't appeal to me any way so maybe look at your healthier options and foget about gaining weight

• Hi, it sounds like the champix…

Hi, it sounds like the champix is definately working for you...I kept trying to smoke but found that I wasnt enjoying the cigarettes as much...each day I smoked less and the taste was just awful...I quite on the 13th day and havent had any cravings, even when others have smoked around me...I have been a none smoker for 3 weeks and a few days now. The nausea is horrible though, I am eating lots at pill time but getting real fat scares me too...

• I started Champix 12 days…

I started Champix 12 days ago. The first week I felt OK now the second week I suddenly am chronically tired all the time. Every opportunity I have I go to bed. A couple of days this week I've slept more hours than been awake and still going to bed early for my 9 hours. Up until today I still have managed to smoke about 20 a day really struggling with the nausea and the terrible taste of the ciggie. I'm telling myself the nausea is my punishment for smoking. Today I just don't feel like smoking. It's lunch time and I've only had 4 and I tend to smoke more in the morning than arvo and evening. Does that me possibly in the next day or two I completely stop as my two week are nearly up????

• I wouldn't advise Champix…

I wouldn't advise Champix to anyone. Sure it helped and i am a non-smoker now but the anger I have now is starting to get out of control. I have never been a violent person but I have horrible thoughts of hurting other people and it is the smallest things that set me off, to the point where I am scared that I may actually hurt someone. I am getting help in a few days from a different doctor. hope it helps. I have been of the pill from Feb 11 and haven't had a smoke since Feb 12.

• I am now on my 5th week of…

I am now on my 5th week of taking champix and to minimise the nausea I am having to eat a rather large breakfast and also dinner. If I dont, I feel really sick for quite a long time after taking the pill...from never eating breakfast (a cup of coffee and a cigie) for around 25-30yrs it is a shock to my system and my body! I am putting on weight which I hate, any advice out there please? I am on 3rd week of being a non smoker...

it only causes these if they have underlying mental problems or they omit of having mental episodes in the past. the gp does not give this out lightly, they can only go on what you tell them, if you omit something in order to get champix, then you are putting yourself at higher risk.

I had a rough first week, but its all working out fine now. Started with almost every minor side effect written on the leaflet! 4th week now, stopped smoking on the 10th day, mostly because i couldnt stand the smell or taste anymore. Funny thing was, i went through a rough estimate of how much i would save per year just by not smoking, (in australia) it works out 1 pack of 25's per day on average if you smoke, saves you over $7000 Australian dollars per year. For any normal person on a $40 - $50k salary... thats a terribly large chunk. I hope the prospect of having that much money can convince others that there are better and more healthier things to be doing that smoking :)

Some antibiotics can cause an upset stomach. Champix definitely do. Both together = a ticky belly. Never take the champix on an empty stomach and definitely not before bed. Have one after a midmorning snack and the other after your evening meal and that will minimise the feeling sick. This is what I did after a few unsuccessful attempts at taking the pill first thing. Much easier.

Hi Joan, sorry you are feeling like this....Yes definately keep taking the tablets, but take them after a meal. Make sure that your stomach is full before you take them...
This morning I took mine while eating my cornflakes, must have not eaten enough and felt really nauseaous....had a piece of toast right away and the nausea went away...I am also on my 3rd week, have stopped smoking and have no other yukky side effects yet...
Stay in touch on here and let me know how you are doing.

I had that too, waking at night and not falling back to sleep. I haven't found a way around it other than trying to stay quiet and try to get used to the interuption while attempting to get comfortable and sleep more... seems to help but not fool proof.
At least last night I dreamt of Steven Tyler LOL we had a blast together working in the kitchen lol gotta love the vivid dreams... think I'll actually miss the dreaming when I'm finally done the pills.
Headaches, yep I have em every day to the point where it feels like my eyes are going to pop outta my head. My doc says some of us will get that as a withdrawal symptom and it will eventually quit on its own as time progresses. If it gets extremely intolerable and not relieved by OTC meds... go get checked obviously.

• The cure to the naseous feeling…

The cure to the naseous feeling is take the pill AFTER you eat your breakfast in the morning and your supper in the evening. Be sure you have a filling hearty meal both times, and then take your pill. It will cut down the nasea. For me I don't have any nausea anymore... unless I don't eat enough before taking the pill. Lastnight I ate earlier than usual and waited 2 hours to take my pill at the scheduled time... I was naseated afterwards... ick. Live and learn. Hope this helps you cope better.

Hey to all my previous followers. Back on the Champix after going off after 3 wks or so. Spent 4 days smoking my brains out. Big woop that was fun. It stinks. period. I feel aweful. Started taking effexor at the same time now. Should be coping nicely in mellow land very soon. (only one champix pill a day for me...or less...each person needs a different dosage!)

• It has been nearly four weeks…

It has been nearly four weeks non smoking and on Champix. I am finding that I wake in the early hours of the morning and cannot get back to sleep - I also find that my neck and front of head feels like they are contracting from withdrawal symptoms (which I am sure would be worse if not on Champix). I want to know if this feeling of withdrawal symptoms after four weeks is normal?

• Hi Guest, I have just started…

Hi Guest, I have just started on my 3rd week of champix and stopped smoking 3 days ago, nausea has been my only side effect so far.
I think if you should contact your doctor about the "skipped heartbeats", the heart is not something you should ignore.
I am controlling the nausea by taking my pill while eating breakfast and dinner, I eat half my meal, take the pill and then finish the meal, it seems to work. I sleep better than when I was smoking and yes very vivid dreams.
Good luck and let us know how you are going...
Cheers, Lynne

• I have been taking Champix…

I have been taking Champix for one month and gave up smoking on day 14. My prescription ran out today and my doctor wrote the wrong details and the pharmacist would not renew the prescription so now I am one day without the tablet and I believe I still require 2 months of treatment. I am turning 40 this year and had my first cigarette when I was 10. I love (loved?) smoking and am experiencing the "mourning, loss, saddness" of a part of me that has always been there. I feel lost and am searching for solutions to things that I have avoided by ducking outside and having a quick smoke. Yes I feel lost and down but I have given up without Champix before and have experienced similiar feelings I blamed it on being pregnant but I think that you really have to look at why you smoke and what are you repressing. No matter what, quitting smoking is hard and emotional, atleast with Champix I am not experiencing the horrible restless leg syndrome and mega cravings.

• Hi Time to quit, Thanks for…

Hi Time to quit, Thanks for the very supportive reply, I really needed it. I am now on my 10th day on champix, my quit day is next Tuesday evening (13th day). I am babysitting the little ones on Monday and Tuesday and then dont have them for another 5days. The little ones can be a bit stessful at times being 4 and 2 yrs old and rather spoiled so I decided my quit day should be when they are not with me. I am only smoking around 6 cigarettes a day now and they are yuk. The only side effect so far has been pretty severe nausea. I read your comment on how to deal with that by taking tablet after a meal, so will give that a go.....Thanks for all your wonderful advice and good luck to you as well.

• I really appreciate your…

I really appreciate your comments. I've been smoking again for the last two days. The problem is I feel so much more myself again. I tried Zyban and believe me my family begged me to stop! I was never more aggressive than on that drug. I think the Champix does other things besides just blocking the nicotine receptors -- however I'm not convinced it has everything to do with feeling down. I think it added to my usual winter blues, etc. I did not leave my couch for 2 solid weeks on it though. I couldn't even move! Even a week after going off it. I hate to think people would be discouraged by this...I just wonder if the drug has been perfected yet. I had some serious feelings of helplessness and despair. I'm still not myself at all! Depression is tricky because circumstance plays a role. I'm going to start again with the lowered dose and effexor combination. Wish me luck all. I'm ok I think.

• YES it's preventable. …

YES it's preventable. Be sure to EAT before taking your pill both morning and night. Do not take 'with or without food' but rather wait until you've finished your meal, then take the pill on a full stomach. Completely cleared up the nasea and stomach issues for me.

• If you're depressed you should…

If you're depressed you should go straight to your doc and explain your feelings. If anything you should go try Zyban then instead of Champix.
Have you thought what's causing your depression? Quitting smoking can be like losing your most loyal friend, who's been there thru it all.. good and bad times, parties, funerals, weddings and births. BUT it's also the one that owns you, costs you money, controls you... it will whip it's evil lashes at you when you turn it away from your life. Show it who's boss. Make a list of your pro's and cons to quitting smoking and post them around your house, vehicle etc. It will help you stay on track. Best of luck. I'm on day 10... feel better already, smokes are disgusting to me... over 20 years smoking over a pack a day, sometimes 2. Sure it's hard at times, BUT it can be overcome.

• I think your family has read…

I think your family has read too many negative things about Champix and therefore are putting that onto you as it's 'going to happen'. I'm on day 10 of Champix and quit smoking 2 days ago simply b/c the taste was disgusting. Prior to going on Champix my family doctor of over 13 years, sat with both my hubby and I and explained the chance of suicide. Something that wasn't detected in the preliminary studies of champix before being relased.
Fact is, yes something could happen, something could cause one to snap. As long as your friends and family are aware of that and can help monitor the person on champix, it should be ok.
I have had a few grouchy spells, but that's normal. One's body is still going to feel the withdrawal symptoms of smoking... it's normal and should be expected. But one should not blame Champix for that... all champix does is block the receptor in your brain that enjoys smoking.
Sit down and educate your family. Tell them how important it is to you that you have their support in quitting. Because how they are treating you now makes you feel you'd rather continue to smoke, which is against YOUR wish.
Promise if you're feeling 'offish' one day, due to cranky or tired, or general light headedness (common with quitting smoking) that you'll let them know.
Hopefully they'll understand and help support you rather than try to punish you for your quest to quit smoking.

Hi, I am on my 6th day of my champix starter pack and havent given up smoking yet, although already the cigarette tastes horrible. My daughter is worried about the side effects, as I baby sit my 2 little grandsons and she thinks I might harm them! I am 60 yrs old and have been smoking for about 35yrs, I so want to keep on taking champix but now I am getting negative feedback from family it is putting me off....any advice for me from anyone please? I am usually a positive person and not prone to depression.
Thanks everyone, hope to get a reply soon.

• Yours is a great experience…

Yours is a great experience with Champix, I hope I can give up, I have been smoking for 38 years OMG, I don't even feel 38 years old, I started when I was 13 at school and so I don't know what it is like not to smoke, it scares the hell out of me all of this .....I wish it was over and that I was a non smoker.

• Hi Mellissa.....I really…

Hi Mellissa.....I really liked your post, I have had a script to start champix for two months, however, I feared taking the pills because of the nausea reports etc. Then on tuesday I had the script filled, I broke the first pill in half and took it yesterday, this morning I took the other half. I am glad I decided to ween myself on them as they have caused me unusual heartburn, I have not long ago taken a zoton pill and it is relieving it abit. I was going to take the full pill in the morning, but I feel scared in case it makes me vomit. "I have a morbit fear of that", would rather cut off my own arm than feel nausea.......must be some childhood horror. Good on you and everyone else here for giving up the smokes, I wish they had never been "INVENTED"..........Cherie

• On to my ninth week, whoooohooo,…

On to my ninth week, whoooohooo, I did try and have one a few days ago and BLAHHHH, YUCK, EWWWW it was absolutely disgusting and I was silly for even putting the damn "coffin nail" in my mouth let alone llight it up. I will NOT smoke ever again. My doctor said that once I finish the 12 course that I can do another 12 weeks if I'm not feeling in control which is a good feeling to know if you need the back up, but I do feel confident that I won't need it! I had smoked for thirty eight years and now I don't even feel like that I was EVER a smoker. Feeling fantastic!!! Good luck all :)))

• I agree Cath, I was…

I agree Cath, I was on the lower dose. I'm starting to feel much better now. I won't go back to smoking. I've been trying to quit for 5 years. After a while you start to realize your just being stupid and say 'enough already'. It's so much like alcoholism or any other addiction!! I'm an addict. I cannot smoke. EVER

• Have tossed only once that…

Have tossed only once that i can blame on the Champix stuart. Hold tuff dude. Have smoke for 30 yrs till i started Champ, so far its all been good. Pretty sure the pro's of not ingesting tobacco smoke far outweight the cons of using this drug.

• Oh people! I feel like I…

Oh people! I feel like I should not share this but I need to. I stopped taking the pills after 3 wks. I just felt like my legs were becoming numb. I also had some strange issue with my bladder. It is entirely possible the additional symptoms were just a bug I was fighting. I just have been so sick feeling! It got really bad for the first two or three days off the pills. Getting better. Part of the problem is the issues with constipation and gas. The taste in my mouth also became an issue with tasting food. I was eating all the time. My behaviors were different than normal as well but again maybe i act weird every winter (lack of excercise and sunshine). Anyway, I am not smoking. I just want everyone to keep in mind that going OFF the medication needs a couple days off work. Trust me on that one!! Good luck all! Stay on it if you can, I just couldn't again.

• I have been taking it for…

I have been taking it for about 4 days now. I know for myself, planning ahead for triggers, cravings and so on with a counsellor has helped wonders. Champix also has a website that can help you plan for your quit date and cravings.

;-) same with me... I went through a phase of washing all my coats hats. wolly hats and scarves. Wouldn't go to houses where people smoked indoors. Yes... I try to keep away from the smell of smoke! You are doing very well/ IT IS WONDERFUL TO BE A NON SMOKER _ I WISH I DID IT YEARS AGO>>> BUT BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!

Hey Melissa!
We are doing this...right!!! I keep remembering the SMELL. Imagine the Smell of stinking rotten lungs. Yuck! Old with bad breathe....NO, no, no!!!

• Sounds like your doing great.…

Sounds like your doing great. I think everyone has a slightly different experience so I wouldn't worry about craving, etc. Most of the smoking desire is generated in our minds. The best thing we can do is prepare mentally by accepting the changes to our bodies. I'm trying to let myself accept how rotten I feel without feeling like I need to deny it. Do you know what I mean? Being imperfect is ok.
As for myself the side effects changed over time even with the same dose. I actually have to push myself to leave the house. It will all improve soon. Stay strong. Cheers

• Hi to all, Would have to…

Hi to all, Would have to be one of the hardest things i have ever done in my life, giving birth was only 30 hrs of pain hehe.
I gave up on day 8 so i have not had a cig for 2 weeks now. Still have cravings, does anyone else still have cravings. I dont want a cig at all but think the body wants what the nicotine did. No i keep saying i will not give in. Is this normal as others say they dont get cravings. I very tied all the time heaps of heatburn and use to vomit but now only suffer from nausea, also yuck taste in mouth. Have had no bad dreams at all so thats a plus. Dont want to be around people at moment i feel i need or month or 2 to myself. My partner very supported but found alot of smokers of no help at all and you no support hehe.
Still i will stay on champix and enjoy my life as a non smoker.
My hat goes of to you all and myself

• I was thinking the same thing...…

I was thinking the same thing.....what happens when the Champix is done? Hoping that I can stay strong and not fall into the habit again!! I keep "coaching" myself saying that the hardest part is over and that I never want to start from scratch at quitting again! Hang in there! You are stronger than the stupid cigarettes!!! :-)

• Hello from Canada. I am…

Hello from Canada.

I am on day 16.
Went from a pack a day on day 1, to 1/2 pack on day 2, to 7 smokes on day 3, then 3 smokes a day onward until day 11 when I stopped completely.
So far so good. Cutting down was easy - I actually felt GROSS smoking the last few in the day or two before I stopped completely. I find that once I started taking the Champix, it no longer felt good to smoke...I suppose that means it is working. :-)

I am already finding it easier to breathe...I am not coughing anymore (or rarely).

The hardest part for me right now is the "habit" of lighting up - i.e. - every time I get in the car I have the urge, on my regular breaktime at work I have the urge etc...
In the car I have started bringing hard candies with me - mints etc. to have something in my mouth - and toothpicks!

As for side efffects:
I am experiencing horrible heartburn - especially at night (it wakes me up coughing on bile - it's so bad!!)...I really have to make sure that I take the pill halfway through a meal so I have something in my stomach when I take it and something to go down on top of it or I am very uncomfortable with abdominal pain/nausea. I have also had mild constipation and vivid dreams (good dreams, but very vivid). My sleeping pattern has changed as well - I feel VERY tired and "slowed down", in general but I have found it hard to drift off at night when I go to bed. I do feel abnormally tired since starting Champix. I have a history of manic depression in my family (my mom), so I am hyper sensitive to watching out for depression as a side effect - so far so good there as far as I can tell.

Has anyone else out there experienced a change in how things smell?? I find that my sense of smell has changed dramatically only after a few days of not smoking!! I had to wash my jackets and a blanket I had in my car because I could not stand the smell of stale smoke! There are people here at work that smoke and I silently "gag" when I walk into their office because the smell of smoke is so bad! I wonder if all the non-smokers in my life experienced that from me...It makes me embarassed to think so.

So I guess I am well on my way, but some parts of the day are still tough...I threw out my remaining cigarettes and I am glad I did...I am not sure I would have the willpower NOT to take a puff if presented with a situation where I was alone and had them with me! I'm sure I would feel like crap afterward!!

Hang in there everyone - I keep telling myself that it's going to feel so good to be non-smoker!!!!

• I check in here all the time…

I check in here all the time so I'll keep an eye on you if you do the same. I think the more honest people are here the better. As in - if you start to feel unusual let it be known. The other smoker around is not good but hopefully it's not in the house. Cheers.

• I was just thinking that…

I was just thinking that once I go off the drug I may need to find some strategies to deal with stress. I know in my head that I can just wait out the urge to smoke and it goes away but I have given in so many times. I think stressful or bad situations make me think I can't cope and that I should just be bad and give in. I just want to be able to ride out bad times without smoking. The smoking doesn't actually DO anything. So, it's all in my mind. It's time to take control of my own thoughts...no matter what. I'm strong! Who's with me!!!!!

• Hi, This is the…

Hi, This is the second time quitting on Champix. Three years ago I was successful but started again after six months due to family memebers insistant on smoking around me. I thought it was easy then to stop with no side effects at all. This time I have found it fairly easy (on my third week now of not smoking) with only a few cravings. I could sleep 12-14 hours if allowed, I have very vivid dreams (but quite enjoyable) and no other side effects at all. I know my M.D. was hesitant about prescribing this as I have a long standing history of depression and have taken Zoloft for the last 10 years. I have a bit of nausea on an empty stomach....and that's all. I've smoke for 35 years and have only been able to stop with Champix.

• i ve been on it for 3 weeks…

i ve been on it for 3 weeks now waited until day 14 then stopped have had very little cravings ,went to my local stop smoking group they monitor carbon manoxide i was at 26 on may first vist and on week 2 after stopping i was down to ..........2 ,i have listened to people who are on NRT and would agree with ALAN CARR stop putting the NIC back into your system. YOU NEED TO STOP THE CHAIN REACTION. BRILL BOOK read this before making up my mind well worth the £8.99. champix has been defo the best success that i ve have had no desire to smoke .ps saved £35.00 this week .

• Hello! I am on my second…

Hello! I am on my second week of no cigarettes. I think I started the pill on Jan. 21. I have taken this drug before so knew NOT to take the double dose! I had such trouble the last time with aggression that I lost my job and broke up with boyfriend. When you go off the drug you must let people know! Make sure everyone at work and family are aware of your taking the drug. Anyhow, I went off the drug too early last time and started again. You must do the entire course and know that not smoking is a choice just like happiness. We choose how we live our lives. I want to be in control of that. Anyway, this time around I still have the gas, some dreams, but less nausea from the lower dose. No urge to smoke but very, very sleeepy! My eyesight is blurry and I feel kind of dopey. It's all worth it. I do worry about job interviews because I'm not 100% myself. I think that I will just have to be honest and let people know what I'm doing. We should all be proud of ourselves for trying. Ps. If you feel angry DO not unleash it on your co-workers or loved ones. Go for a walk!! I drink copious amounts of tea. Spoil yourself with tons of different kinds of tea! And aromatherapy!!! Cheers!

• Hey all. On my 19th day…

Hey all.

On my 19th day smoke-free and not missing the cigs at all. The only thing to report is weird dreams and some tiredness. I slept 12 hours last night and still feel like i need a few more hours in bed.. Anybody else having the same experiences? Well done to all for quitting too. :D

• Hi, I am only on day 3 but…

Hi, I am only on day 3 but so far I've been suffering with nausea quite badly and sometimes vomiting, restless nights sleep and hot flushes! I hope I don't get any more because these I can cope with!
Good luck everyone!

• Hi, I'm on the 24th day…

Hi,

I'm on the 24th day of Champix and so far the only symptoms that I have are, bloating and tiredness so I'm very lucky. I haven't had a cigarette for 10 days now and can honestly say that I'm not missing it. Hope this puts some positive thoughts to those who are having problems with the medication.

• Hi Guys, am on day 12 no…

Hi Guys, am on day 12 no cigs, used to smoke 20/25 and sometimes 30 a day, cant believe im just not bothered bout them anymore... Now im relieved and shall continue to take champix and put up as like most of you i have been smoking for way too long and have tried everything and so far champix is working... I want to stay off the fags forever ... best of luck to everyone ('',) even if they'll make us fatter!!!! and seperated !!!!! Keep the Faith

• Im in the same situation,…

Im in the same situation, i have 3 weeks to go and know once there done these feelings will be gone. Hang in there.

• Thats exactly how i feel,…

Thats exactly how i feel, 3 months is nothing compared to 20 years of smoking. I have had every side effect listed. I have 3 weeks to go on Champix and am happy to call myself a non smoker.

• I am on day 14 of champix,…

I am on day 14 of champix, I have had one cig today, and 5 yesterday. I normally smoke a pack a day. I cant sleep at night and my back gets sore. The crazy dreams have slowed. Also within 15 mins of taking my tablets I feel nauseous and have to lie down for about half an hour. Its making me quite legarthic, and sick. I should have stopped smoking completely now but still not over it.

• i'm on day 11 and doing ok.…

i'm on day 11 and doing ok. not missing smoking at all, though its only my 3 day!

Not had any mood swings, though i am more fidgety (than usual!) during my normal smoking times looking for things to do.
I am finding it very difficult to sleep though no matter how tired i am, and when i do get to sleep it is very disturbed with strange dreams. Does this last throught the entire 12 weeks?

• i am on day 3 and the back…

i am on day 3 and the back pains are bad and have a very bad head aswell but going to stick with it havent smoked for 2 days now x

• day 2 had one and half fags…

day 2 had one and half fags instead of 15 not bad but i have very bad back pains in kidney area and i had a funny dream last night .day 3 no fags at all but my back killing me not sure what it is has anyone else had back pain .

• I have been taking Champix…

I have been taking Champix for the past 3 weeks. I have been smoke free for 7 days. The white Chapix were fine the first week, but when I switched to the blue, had errible indigestion, heartburn and stomach cramps. Went back to the Doc and was prescribed anti acid tabs and have been much improved since. This week though, I am having awful leg pains....I know that nicotine withdrawal can cause leg pain as the nicotine and chemicals reduce in the muscles, but this is something wlse. I feel as if my legs are swollen (they're not), and its as if I have been running for miles.Has anyone else experienced this? I can also relate to the tearfulness, but assumed hat this was due to nicotine withdrawal rather than the Champix.

• Hmm the lack of sleep can…

Hmm the lack of sleep can be a bit of a nusance. To override that, I have a joint every night. Don't like to take tablets, or smoke.. go figure. But that allows me a much better night's sleep. Have had same symptoms as yourself, and a few more.. am constipated now and a bit concerned, and yah.. go read my other comments if you like to find out more.. All I can say is it not a 'nice' tablet to be taking at all... but am hoping to achieve the results the same as you all.. and to be completely side-effect free after I stop taking the tabs. I'm down to 1 cigy today.. being 1/2 in the morning, and the other 1/2 in the evening. Hope none tomorrow. They started tasting bad today.. (end week 2). Cheers, and good luck!

• What a story! Ah ha.. I can…

What a story! Ah ha.. I can relate to the gas problem... OMG! Now that you have extra time.. it might be a good suggestion that you take up a hobby, or start doing something you have always wanted to do.. yet never had the time, money, or whatever the reason. I find I get up early and go to my pc and start working on a client's books. It's great! I get more work done. More work, more everything! Get out there and do one thing you have always wanted to do. Start going to the gym 3 days per week, or walking along the beach every morning/evening.. whatever! Just do it! ;-) best of luck xx

• Might be a better choice.…

Might be a better choice. More expensive... but not when you're having side effects as you are. Make sure the hypnotist sticks with you and makes themselves available when you need them the second time.. which by what you wrote, I believe they may have to do at least 2 sessions on you to work on an even deeper level. Best of luck with your new smoke free and clean temple!

• i have been taking champix…

i have been taking champix for 8 days now and so far i seem to have mood swings and also i have bad dreams and sometimes at night im irratable and carnt sleep, on my 1st 5 days every night i had night sweats but thats gone now quite happily, today i have had to go to the doctors and now i have been told i have tonsillitis so weather thats to do with the champix or not i dnno, hopefully they'll be no worse side effects to what im having now and i hope these dont effect me in the future

• I've been taking Champix…

I've been taking Champix for two weeks now. I've had constant mood swings, from super highs to balling my eyes out over a pimple. My dreams are very violent, my boyfriend has said i scream in my sleep. Every second day i've felt as if my stomach is in my throat and whenever i move i feel the need to vomit. I cannot go near coffee and my hand's shake almost constantly. Considering chucking the Champix and getting hiptnotised instead.

• On day 4, its been ok. My…

On day 4, its been ok. My dreams are more vivid. Did anyone else suffer a cold after taking it? As i have been suffering from a head cold since day 1.

• I hit the 1 month mark today…

I hit the 1 month mark today not smoking. Started Champix Dec 6,and my quit date was Dec 20th. It has been a rough run, still feels like I quit yesterday. I still have the strange dreams, and occasional constipation. I am on anti depressants and the doctor checked champix against them and there was no issues..go figure. I haven't seem like there is a difference, but my family cannot believe how laid back I have become. I was also drinking every night to become drunk enough to sleep through the night. I stopped drinking when I stopped smoking, so doing twice the withdrawels..Gaining weight and that bothers me. Oh and the gas is incredible! I could fuel a small country if they could get past the smell.Husband may yet still leave, started sleeping with the windows open. Going to just keep going day by day.The worst for me is my day was always segemented by the smoke breaks and now I feel like I am floundering through the day and like I am forgetting something. Good luck all!

• Have been on Champix for…

Have been on Champix for eight days and just gone up to the full dose of 1mg twice a day, went to bed at 10pm last night and could not sleep, at 2:30 in the morning I went and had half a sleeping tablet. Went to sleep about 3:30am, got up at around 6:30 to go to work. I think it is really affecting my sleep, maybe I can get used to it as I am still feeling fine during the day but 3 hrs a night is not really enough. Has been the same for the last week even on the smaller dose just not quite that bed. Will persist. I do like the fact that the smokes have started tasting bad and I have only had half of one in the last 12 hours though.

• Took for four days Smoking…

Took for four days Smoking did not change much was smoking on average 10 a day when normally smoke about 15 but was trying to cut some out & would be able to go down to 10 normally quite easily. 4th afternoon got Diarrhea. 2 days later still had Diarrhea was in absolute agony at times in my stomach. Overnight started bleeding as well so have stopped taking it.

• i have been on champix for…

i have been on champix for 3 months ive given up smoking however i have pains in my legs that feel like ive been doing very heavy weights or feels like someone has punched me in the legs over and over again but hay im just stoked i gave up so thanks champix.

• just started a week ago and…

just started a week ago and so far so good thanks for the up beat blog your encouragement came thru loud and clear

• I only started smoking 8…

I only started smoking 8 months ago and was amazed at how it gets you very quickly under its grip and was smoking 10-12 a day. I have found NRT products to be particularly useless as you end up substituting a cigarette with another dose of nicotine, and the addiction cycle remains in place.

I explained this to my Nurse Practitioner, and she agreed that although I didn't smoke 20+ a day, where Champix is often recommended, Champix could help me.

I started 6 days ago - by day 3 I quit totally, as I had no urge to do so and haven't thought of smoking since.

Have had the odd vivid dream or two but nothing else too ghastly.

I have increased my dose to the full 2x 0.5mg daily (at this stage) and am planning to remain at this lower level rather than build up to the 2 x 1mg dose.

For me it appears to be that breaking the link to nicotine addiction is what was required rather than smoking itself, which I've never really enjoyed as such.

• Well my hubby completed Champix…

Well my hubby completed Champix about 3months ago and started smoking again and on Tuesday had a heart attack at the age of 40 due to a blood clot...have to say I think it is Champix...one will never know...but he had only 30% restriction in his arteries...I just find it strange or coincidental...

• OH YEAH, I think something…

OH YEAH, I think something has died and rotted inside of me

• within 16 days of taking…

within 16 days of taking champix I experienced cramping stabbing pain in my abdomen. I stopped the medication. By the end of the month, at my yearly physical, my doctor informed me that for the first time in my life my kidney function test came back abnormal. I now have to have a stint put into the kidney to drain it , and have been informed that in March I will have to have a calcification removed from the duct of my kidney. Since starting the treatment I am continually constipated and have to take laxitives every day of my life, have become horerndously flatulent. I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences,

• Hello, I packed in smoking…

Hello, I packed in smoking about 18 months ago. My wife bless her, is on week 5 of Champix, she is going through the mill, the first ten days she smoked on them (she has smoked for 23 years) and was ok ish. On the fourth day when she started on the doubles, this started the severe bouts of nausea (mainly mornings). She has since suffered with bad stomach aches, aches in arms and legs, lethargy, bad taste in the mouth, severe stomach acids (raging heart burn), ear ache, mood swings and terrible dreams.
She has described the experience as something note dissimilar to swine flu which she contracted two years ago. She is a lot more relived today after I showed her this forum and others with people explaining their experiences.
I know that some of these symptoms are synonymous with nicotine withdrawal, as I can relate to some of these symptoms, I had what I thought was flu for about a month when I did the cold turkey technique. I am giving her as much support as I can as since I packed in, its like I am ten years younger, and s lot richer, stick at it people its only for a few months, what’s that in comparison to the rest of your life. Good luck.

• I ASKED MY GP FOR CHAMPIX…

I ASKED MY GP FOR CHAMPIX AS I HAD SUDDENLY DECIDED AFTER SMOKING FOR 22YEARS. I TRIED PATCHES IN THE PAST ADN COLD TURKEY. PATCHES CAUSED CHEST PAIN, BLOOTING, CONSTIPATION,NAUSEA,SWEATS,POOR CONSTIPATION. I WAS IRRITABLE AND HAD WEIRD DREAMS. I WAS AT TIMES STILL SMOKING. THE SECOND TIME I WENT COLD TURKEY. I HAD THE SAME SYMTOMS ALTHOUGH I DID NOT SLEEP AND SUFFERED REALLY BAD SWEATS THROUGH THE NIGHT. I SUFFERED A REALLY BAD CHEST INFECTION. I GAVE UP AS I DECIDED TO ADMIT THAT I ENJOYED SMOKING. I WENT ON TO SMOKE FOR A FUTHER 6 YEARS. OUT OF THE BLU, EVERYONE WAS SHOCKED, I WENT TO MY DOCTOR FOR CHAMPIX. I WAS FINE FOR ABOUT A WEEK WHEN I WENT ONTO THE FULL TAB I, THEN 2 TABS. THE CONSTIPATION WAS SO SEVERE AND THE PAIN . I HAD TO CONTERACT WITH MEDICATION IT GOT SO BAD BY THE END OF THE SECOND WEEK. MY FOLLOW UP VISIT WITH THE GP SHE OFFERED TO REDUCE THE DOSE. I REFUSED, BUT EVENTUALLY DID THIS OF MY OWN ACCORD FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. I THEN WAS FORGETTING TO TAKE THE TABS ( 2-3 DAYS). I SPOKE TO A NURSE I KNOW AND SHE SIMPLY ASKED IF IN THE 3 DAYS HAD I SMOKED OR WANTED TO SMOKE, IF NOT THEN DONT TAKE THE TABLETS. THAT WAS 9 MONTHS AGO AND I STILL HAVE NOT HAD A CIGARETT. I WILL SAY THAT I STILL SUFFERED THE SYMPTONS BUT DO FEEL THAT CHAMPIX DID AGGRAVATE THESE WHICH IS ONLY NATURAL I WILL SAY THAT AT TIME I DID FEEL STRANGE AND AS SOMEONE SAID IT FELT AT TIMES I HAD ABOUT 3 CIGS AFTER NOT SMOKING. THOUGHT THIS WAS MY IMAGINATION AT THE TIME SO DID NOT MENTION TO MY GP. ANY MEDICATION WILL CAUSE CONTISPATION, NAUSEA, AND HAVE SIDE AFFECTS AS WILL THE WITHDRAWAL OF DRUGS CAUSE CONSTIPATION,NAUSEA,SWEATS, POOR CONCENTRATION AND MEMORY. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE TRIED TO STOP A NUMBER OF TIMES AND ALSO USED CHAMPIX ONCE OR TWICE. I THINK WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY IS DEEP DOWN YOU STILL NEED TO WANT TO STOP. NONE OF THE PATCHES OR CHAMPIX ARE MIRACLE WORKERS. THERE HAS TO BE A CHANGE IN YOU AS WELL, SOMETHING CLICKED FOR ME. WHAT A DIFFERENCE FINANCIALLY. SOMETHING THAT DID HELP ME WAS I KEEP A LARGE CALANDER AND MARKED OF EACH DAY, THEN IT WAS WEEKS NOW I MARK OFF MONTHS, I ONLY TOLD A COUPLE OF PEOPLE SO I DID NOT HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME, REMINDING ME. I ALSO PUT THE CASH ON A WEEKLY BASIS IN A JAR. YOU WILL PUT ON A BIT OF WEIGHT BUT FROM SOMEONE WHO THIS IS KILLING, TRUST ME I AM STILL GLAD I HAVE STOPPED. Good luck and talk to people who will support you not those who will say oh i sotpped for 2 years and started again. ignore them

• I'm now on champix for the…

I'm now on champix for the second time this year, the first time i took 2 months supply of the pills and was very ill and aggressive and became very depressed on them, which is why i only took them for 2 months, i started back smoking 2 weeks after i finished that course. I decided to try champix again and am on my 3rd month of them 10 weeks ciggerette free, i feel sick about half an hour after taking champix and this lasts for about an hour it dosen't matter if i eat before or after taking them i still feel sick, i am dizzy, in constant bad form, have a very disturbed sleep pattern, am retaining fluid and look like mrs.blobby, have repeated throath and sinus infections and am still occassionaly craving a smoke. I am pushing myself to finish the course because in my mind 3 months is very little to suffer to stay off the smokes and i don't want to have to go through this sickening experience again. I have yet to go out with my friends for a few drinks and i know that will be the hardest test but i'm determined to beat it, also for any females champix has played havoc with my cycle, i will start 2011 a non-smoker

• A lot of the symptoms people…

A lot of the symptoms people are displaying are typical symptoms from stopping smoking and lack of nicotine. These symptoms cannot be directly attributed to 'Champix'. I have 'tried' stopping several times using various methods i.e. cold turkey, patches, gum, hypnotism. I failed because the bottom line is I didnt want to stop. With everything you take the most important factor is YOU. You MUST want to stop. I suffered the vivid dreams, bad breath, flatulence strong, increased appetite resulting in weight gain, dizzy, extremes of mood swings, unable to concentrate fully. These and others. But...the bottom line is....These symptoms wont kill you they will decrease and leave as your nicotine dependency reduces...SMOKING WILL KILL YOU...Think about your decision now and say "I MUST STOP, I WILL DIE SOONER IF I DONT.
p.s. i am not a reformed smoker putting undue pressure on you. I am trying again to stop...this time I WILL SUCCEED

• Monika. I have now been 7mths…

Monika.
I have now been 7mths without smoking. Not bad for a smoker of 20years of a packet a day. I couldnt have done it with out the tablets. Yes I had the sick feeling at the start but only lasted a week or two. But the dreams where weird (haha) dreamed about everyone I know. I only stayed on the 1st box and cut down to 1 tablet only as i kept forgetting them.
It gets easier with time. But 1 tip i told my sister to do as I done is train your brain that smokes are yuck and stink. I still can't stand the smell of them.
Good luck to all. I'll NEVER touch a smoke again.

• I feel really ill!!!!! …

I feel really ill!!!!! Nothing to do with smoking not unless smoking is making me dizzy, sick and having a feeling of being detached from reality! I wont be taking anymore! Im finding it hard to concentrate and for some reason feel a bit confused. I'd rather go it alone than carry on with these tablets.

Well I'm 5 days off the smokes and am feeling great and don't really feel like smoking at all which is great but...... I have had issues with constipation and I have the worse flatulence ever!!! I'm worried that I may become a non smoker but lose my husband in the process!!! Other than this and some vivid dreams it's all good. I almost feel like I never smoked.....I'm just worried the gas will last for the whole 3 month course. Anyone else being gassed out??

• I started Champix in November...…

I started Champix in November... It will be a month on Dec 23 that I have quit! I also cut down the pills to just 1 a day... I was half way through my maintenance package when i forgot to take them for a couple days, so just stopped! The side effects were minimal... now one full week without taking any pills, having trouble sleeping... But all worth it! I smoked 1/2 a pack a day... and without Champix would not have quit! Biggest thing is making up your mind this is really what you want! Its all about making changes... and avoiding trigger points for awhile... I can smell a smoker a mile away! To think I used to smell like that... Totally gross! Good Luck!

I am on day 30 and have experienced vivid dreams, tiredness (from not sleeping I would think)and upset stomach. I do not take two 1 mg.I cut one in half and take it at night. I sleep late every morning and have no ambition to do anythings, such as shopping and baking for Christmas. Hopefully these side effects will get better.

• I am half way through week…

I am half way through week 4 and have experiencied the constipation and most vivid dreams. My mood can be aggressive at times but I not acting out. My withdrawal is not complete but it is really assisting me not giving in to the templation.

• I'm on day 11 of Champix…

I'm on day 11 of Champix and so far it has worked very well. Although I have been feeling way more tired than usual. My side effects include: drowziness, nausea, constipation, frequent urination, abdominal and back pain, as well as vivid dreaming.

• I'm finishing up on my last…

I'm finishing up on my last 2 weeks besides having abnormal sleep and some mood swings I feel great. Smoked for 30 yrs and now cigarettes don't even cross my mind, it's like I never smoked. Side effects for me were definately worth it for me.

• I have just finished week…

I have just finished week 2 (day14) and have this huge red blotch (a hive) on my nose, I look ridiculous, but other than that its been pretty good... Crossing my fingers that it works and that I dont get any other side effects - I think a blotch here is nothing compared to a stroke where I wont even be able to lift my hand to have a smoke...

• Hi i'm on my last packet…

Hi i'm on my last packet (week 11) and they really do work - i used to focus on the tablet instead of a cigarette but now i forget to take the tablet! they are strong!!! they do weird things to you!!! YOU MUST TAKE THEM WITH FOOD!!! if you don't take them with food you feel really sick ... to the point you have to sit down and put your head between your knees. I have put on a bit of weight (maybe due to eating with the tablets) but this I will be able to sort out when i've stopped smoking and taking the tablets - I think you've got to weigh everything up, i've smoked for 30 years and the longest i've given up for is 8 hours when i've been asleep!! always saying i'd not buy more the next day and giving in straight away. so feeling a bit "odd" for 12 weeks is a small price to pay and i feel so much healthier. good luck everyone, don't look back xx

• I took my first champix yesterda…

I took my first champix yesterday and just taken the second one. I am also on strong antibiotics for an infection caused by staples after an operation.
I took both the antibiotic and the champix around the same time yesterday and got sent home from work after feeling strange and queezy about 10 mins later. Taken both again about 2 hours ago and gone really cold and shaking so much couldn't hold my cup - is this normal ??

• Hi I took Champix for a month…

Hi I took Champix for a month and had very few side effects. First 3 days vivid dreams then normal sleep patterns. Day 8, didnt stop wanting a cigaretta but tasted so foul couldnt get through more than 1/4 of a fag. Only prob I had was when I took 2 within about 3 hrs of each other and felt quite stoned. As 60kg female I think that 2 tabets a day is too much and dropped myself back to 1 per day at the beginning of the recommended 2 per day section. Didnt experience any anxiety or depression. best way to give up smoking is to avoid all smokers for amoth socially and dont have them near you so you are not tempted. Was worth iot for the feeling of clean lungs , no bad taset in the mouth in the morning or nicotine hangovers

• my boyfriend just finished…

my boyfriend just finished the 12 week program. he's 62 and had almost every side effect except for the dreams. He was a loving caring person before he started these pills. His attitidue and personality changed so much. He's not the same person. I am afraid to say anything because he takes it the wrong way. Has said things totally opposite to what we talked about when we first started dating. I feel that I have lost him because of these pills. My sister was only on them a month and quit because it started to change her. Same with my son. I feel the longer you are on them the worse it gets. I only hope that now he's off them things will get better with us.

• First of all, I am sorry…

First of all, I am sorry to hear some of you have lost family members over Champix.
I am at week 11 of the course, and have found the over-all experience to be ok.
I havn't noticed any major changes, except for the nausea after taking the morning tablet.
I usually don't remember dreams, but while taking the tablets, I have good dreams and remember them in the morning. I did however notice after around week 1 - 2 (once i had stopped smoking all togehter) that i was very moody. and it didn't take much to set me off, but it only lasted a couple of days.
Maybe I am part of the 5% or less who this drug does not effect in a bad way?

I believe this has helped me to stop smoking. I have a 5 year old daughter who I would love to see grow up and have a family of her own. If I had continued to smoke, chances are I wouldn't gt to see that.
the other bonus is, the ammount of money you have left at the end of the week. I am am saving around $100 - $150 P/W, by not buying smokes.

If you are going to take Champix, make sure you want to stop smoking. I think it will only work if you really want to give up, not because you think you should.

• SUICIDE!!! SUICIDE!!! SUICIDE!!!…

SUICIDE!!! SUICIDE!!! SUICIDE!!!

My brother took Champix 3 weeks ago, for around 7-10 days and committed suicide leaving behind his wife and 4 small children. He was one of the most optimistic people I knew and the day before he died he had a checkup with the doctor who says he was in very high spirits and appeared to have no noticable side effects. Champix is not an option if you value your family, you might die of cancer in 40years but that is better than dying when you are under 35 years old. Please do not take this drug, our family has so much hurt and I could not wish this upon anyone.

On day 9 of Champix... I've experienced intense bloating, cannot sleep, and when I finally do get to sleep at 3 or 4 am, the dreams are very insane, disturbing in fact. Acute nausea, headaches and a most horrible taste in my mouth. Constipation. In essence, I feel like total and complete crap. Not feeling aggression or anger, but am certainly noticing increased moments of depression which are not the norm for me. I took to the www to research side effects and found that perhaps my swollen eyes on day 2 and 3 were also due to Champix. I really want this drug to work for me - my no-smoke day is tomorrow - Just hope I can survive these side effects

I am currently on day 10 of Champix, this is my second attempt on these tablets. First time round I only took first course and quit for 8 weeks, I stopped because everyone was telling me they were changing me into a bad person.
This time round I am feeling a lot of side effects such as:
Nausea, Constantly Tired, No energy, sore muscles, vivid dreams, Gas, I dont feel like being social, dizziness.
I have also stopped drinking my favourite drink that I usually have everyday as it makes me feel ill.
It feels like Im pregnant again. Im happy to have quit again but i dont know if i can put up with these side effects any longer...

• I have been a non smoker…

I have been a non smoker for 3 weeks thanks to Champax, unfortunately i had to stop taking them as i broke out in Hives and was almost constantly nauseous, also cant seem to stop eating and have gained approx 3 kilo's in 3 weeks, the doctor told me that Champax are responsible for this side effect something to do with the on-off switch in the brain ! anyhows I am doing cold turkey at the moment not too many dramas with withdrawals only 1/2 doz or so really anxious moments throughout the day and they are just moments and pass, other side effects, wild dreams, constipation, itchy skin, sleeplessness, hope they go away soon. Why cant the manufacturers get this right ! potentially a really good product still needs some tweaking !!

• I am grateful that champix…

I am grateful that champix has helped me quit smoking. What i am not grateful for is the side effects that I have experienced. In the beginning I had very vivid dreams. When I stopped smoking (quit date) the dreams went away but the restless nights began. Mood swings came a little later when I began to gain weight. I have 3 1/2 weeks left of my prescription. At this time i am suffering with constipation, stomach cramps, forgetfulness and lack of energy. I'm hoping the saying "no pain no gain" is correct and I don't end up with a severe problem in the future.

Since taking Champix I have not been able to sleep with out medication and have been having anxiety attacks. I only took them for 4 weeks about 4 months ago and still have these systems!!! MY ADVISE TO YOU...DO NOT TAKE THESE PILLS ALTHOUGH I DID STOP SMOKING - I WOULD RATHER STILL BE SMOKING THEN NOT SLEEPING AND HAVING ANXIETY ATTACKS!

• Hello, my name is Storm and…

Hello, my name is Storm and I am on day 12 of the Champix ... everything including cigarettes tastes different - not appetizing at all! I have the nausea after taking the pills but seem to be able to deal with it. I do have a ??? tho ... after the 12 weeks of Champix do you require more Champix to wean you off or do you just quit taking them. I would like to quit taking them right now as I truly believe I have been 'turned off' smoking. I am a 58 year old female and I already take anti-depressants for other reasons. Sooooo my question is: What will happen if I quit taking the Champix 'cold turkey' (now or after the 12 weeks)?

Thanks for listening!

I am a week clear of finishing the wean off packet of chamoix. Completed the 12 week course. During which time I felt very sick when I took the tablet, had to eat with food and Became more withdrawn. Not depressed but felt I wasn't very good at disguising how I felt towards people. Stopped contact with alot of people and have become gradually more withdrawn. Very quick temper, now finding I am screaming at the children and feel uptight. petrified they have messed with my brain and this is all relative. Was it worth it I wonder, I never felt this miserable when i smoked. have just spent all day crying!!!!

Go to the drug compaines website and check the information on the product - the company name can be found on the packet. Most of these side effects are listed as mild. Some of the worst side effects (trembles. depression, bleeding etc) require you to go back and see your doctor.

• It will be 4 weeks this Tuesday…

It will be 4 weeks this Tuesday since my quit date and no signs of wanting to smoke. I can even be around other smokers and it doesnt bother me. After 25 years of smoking and about 10 attemps to give up - this has by far been the easiest. Yes there have been some side effects:
Bleeding gums while brushing.
A small amount of nausea - however I always take the pill with food and always drink a big glass of water with it.
Stressful dreams - although not so much anymore.
Muscle fatigue/weakness - only while excercising.
I am a bit jumpy sometimes.
Mostly I feel chilled out and relaxed and my libido has increased.
A little itchy down south.
A bit of bloating.
But mostly I am feeling really positive and am really glad not to be dependant on cigarettes any longer. These symptoms are annoying but far out weigh the long term damage cigarettes cause.
My advice if your unsure is to give Champix a try. Get someone to keep an eye on our moods - go straight to the doctor if your feeling depressed and get off them as they are not for you. I am hoping that I can come off the Champix without too much hassle and after reading this site I am thinking of decreasing my dose. i have forgotten to take it now and again and I havent felt like smoking at all.

• Hi there. Just thought I…

Hi there. Just thought I would agree with what you have said. Although after reading all the comments on this site, I think I might reduce my dose to once per day until I have done my 12 weeks (6 weeks to go). Symtoms I have had are:
Slight gum bleed - when cleaning teeth, stressful dreams (not so much anymore), muscle fatigue/weakness (but only whie working out). Feelings of being chilled out and with the relaxed attitude and increase libido. Backache now and again. Dry mouth. Itchiness down below. Being a bit vague. Being a be jumpy/nervous. Lucky for me none of these are a real problem and the thought of not being chained to cigarettes for the rest of my life is awesome. My thoughts go out to those that are having a bad time, but to those who are thinking of giving it a go, try it (it might be okay for you) just get someone to keep an eye on you and see your doctor and get off them if that happens.

hey debbie, im having the same issues with my partner he has been on it for 4 weeks now and his behaviour is off the show he wants to fight every one even me up and down behaviour one minute he is like an ADHD patient then as sweet as pie, the aggressive. im un able to leave the house talk to any one and am stepping on egg shells as if i dont im cheating and sleeping around, he also has other side effects such as the dreams, nausea, pain in back, and a lot more. this is not a good drug at all but im going to help him through it, as it is what he wants to do. so it is the drugs making them like it and we just have to sick by them till it is out of there system. good luck.

I have just finished one month on Champix and I am going to stop taking it. I stopped smoking after two weeks, but since the beginning I have been experiencing bouts of acute anxiety and emotional and behavioural changes. It wasn't until I did some research online that I found out that Champix could be causing it. I thought it may have been hormonal as it affected my cycle as well. I hope these side effects go away quickly after I stop taking the pills as I cannot stand to feel like this.

• HI, my sister took them last…

HI, my sister took them last year - her personality change was almost instant. She became irrational, angry, unapproachable and truly awful to be around. Her family really suffered because of her mood swings. She eventally noticed that she was intolerable to be around and gave up the drugs. One year later she is off cigarettes but in her own words she still has 'flashbacks'. She said it took about six months to get back to herself. Now our father has been prescribed them as he has health issues and needs to be off cigarettes asap. HELP!!

• I took Champix for 4 weeks.…

I took Champix for 4 weeks. Within the next week my period appeared mid cycle and I am on the pill and always regular. That was followed by 2 days worth of the most extreme pmt ie. uncontrollable crying and then BAM!! I started bleeding so badly that I ended up in the womens hospital because the blood loss was so bad that were considering a blood transfusion. The good news is that I am now smoke free. The coincidence was that it may have messed with my hormones.

• I've taken Champix several…

I've taken Champix several times, experience slight stomach pain when I go from the starter pills (first week)to the regular dose twice per day, but other than that, no side effects! Champix works well, I just find you need the will power to sustain non-smoking after you stop taking Champix..not always an easy task!

• I would NOT take this drug.…

I would NOT take this drug. Myself and my father took it last year to help stop smoking, he did it, I didnt. While I was taking them I started getting bad stomach cramps, sickness, dioreah, hot flashes etc, so I stopped taking them. When my father finished his course, he started getting the same symptoms. Neither of us had had these symptoms before taking Champix. Now I have been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and my father is having to have his gall bladder removed.

I don't know whether or not these were caused by taking Champix, but it seems like far too much of a coincidence to me.

• PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!…

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!! I am 43, live in Australia and have never smoked in my life. My 22 yr old son has smoked since he was 16 and recently had a son and decided to give up. He used Champix-quite successfully-he no longer smokes. He finished taking Champix 3-4 weeks ago. He became a bit moody while on it but now has gradually become an angry, threatening young man. Two days ago I put my daughter in law and my grandson on a plane for their own protection as he was threatening and extremely nasty. When I try to talk to him now he is saying things like “So what if I love her I love him more and I’ll kill the c@#*”. He says things to her that are inexcusable and I am scared he will end up doing something to someone that will see him behind bars or dead. I lost my ex to suicide and fear now for my son, his partner, my grandson and anyone around him. He got violent with a complete stranger a week ago while playing a social game of soccer, he speaks to my daughter with absolute contempt………. am I trying to make excuses by thinking the cause may be Champix….he has been off it for some time now-surely it can’t still be in his system and causing these emotions??????? Can it?? Please respond I am desperate. As I said I have never smoked and so have no idea about any of this..some of the stories I have heard and read are frightening. To all of you that have quit either smoking or Champix because of the ill effects CONGRATULATIONS, either is an achievement!!!! I’m just not sure if my son’s moods are because of this abominable drug. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

joking aside i have this careless attitude i couldn't give 2 f***s about anything and then this can swing into depression and even thoughts of doing my self in.................................i'd sooner enjoy my smoking thatn feel like this i know where i'd sooner take my chances.................

good luck guys

• Thanks for sharing this post,…

Thanks for sharing this post, it really encapsulates exactly what I'm experiencing. I really don't know to do, whether to persevere at the risk that my symptoms worsen which I don't think I could cope with but I also see that for some people the symptoms persist and often worsen even after stopping :(

• My husband only started Champix…

My husband only started Champix a week ago and already I have noticed weird behaviour in the last 2 days. He has mentioned he feels a bit sick but no pain. He has had 2 fits of rage that were very out of character and weird enough for me to start researching the side effects. From what i have read i am a bit worried.

• Been off champix for 2 weeks…

Been off champix for 2 weeks after completing full course. Have stopped smoking, but since stopping drug, side affects have increased. Have continual headache, head spins, can't control my thought process, get extremely angry for no reason and yes i want to kill myself, this happens at different times throughout the day. My intestinal tract is still malfunctioning(constipation), having difficulty sleeping, shortness of breath, occasional chest pain and heart palpitations. NONE of which were present prior to this treatment for smoking. Thankfully I have an extremely supportive husband and being a trained nurse I have been able to recognise the symptoms. Today I am going to my GP and hopefully he can help me, I know i am not psychotic and i am still alert enough to recognise it is the champix that has caused my mental behaviour. Please i implore you, if at anytime you don't feel yourself mentally or physically go to your GP and get help. It will not go away, It will get worse.

I'm on day 9 of champix. By day 3 i started feeling nausea. Today i'm vomiting... is this normal?? I've got to work tomorrow & certainly don't want to be feeling like this. Should i stop taking them? On the other hand i haven't smoked all day. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Upset stomach just short…

Upset stomach just short of nasua, it that is the tactic then it works, because who wants to smoke when they are on the verg of vomitting. Eiether way it works and \i am going to keep taking it because i hate smoking more than I dislike the nausa.

• 8th day on champix and have…

8th day on champix and have cut down considerably. I still smoke if I have a glass of wine, or with other smokers, but am happy so far. I have had terrible abdominal pains to the point where I feel as though I will faint from it. Other side effects are headaches, constipation and of course bloating - I look as though I am in early stages of pregnancy. Am looking forward to being a non - smoker, now trying to convince my husband into taking them.

• I am nearly at the end of…

I am nearly at the end of my course of champix and am absolutely thrilled with them. I stopped smoking on day 16 altho i had cut down to 1 per day from about day 9. I have experienced very mild side effects. I only had vivid dreams for a bout the first 2 wks, i have had mild headaches occasionally, but overall i have been very happy throughout with no mood swings or depression. the only thing that I really hated was for about 10 mins after taking the tablet I had to force myself not to throw up the nausea was awful but that didnt last either. I do hope I am strong enough to continue a healthy life as a non smoker after "champix"...strongly recomment...

• been taking champix for 6wks…

been taking champix for 6wks and have acne, im a 52yr old woman, have gone through the menopause and never suffered from acne in my teens or any other time in my life, i've also become weepy and very irritable, i'm usually so laid back i'm virtually horizomntal. I'm going to inform my doc that champix is off the menu but am a little worried about just stopping it so think i'll take half a tab for a wk then no more. oh! by the way i've not had a cigarette for 3wks but think i've done most of it by will power as i've still craved them

• Trying to quit both cigarettes…

Trying to quit both cigarettes and swedish snuff. Started taking Champix in the middle of June. Had a vacation from June 24 - July 23, and found myself struggling a bit... socializing, good food and wine... Still, most days I didn't smoke or use snuff. Today 18 days without any nicotine, and not experiencing any withdrawal. Had planned to do the whole 12 weeks, but for some reason started "forgetting" to take the pills about a week ago, and decided to stop taking them a few days ago. Feeling slightly irritable and having a bit of trouble falling asleep at night, but I understand this is common when going off the drug. It's a great feeling not being dependent on tobacco!
Experienced side-effects:
Nausea (initially, after taking the pills)
Sleepiness (I slept a LOT this summer!)
Itching(reduced dose to 1,5 mg and problem gone)
Slight bloating
Increased apetite (put on about 4 pounds, which in my case i s a good thing)
Increased libido (not really a problem either...)
Unusual dream (lively and interesting)
God luck everybody!

• day 24 on champix tummy…

day 24 on champix tummy pains now and again, very restless sleep and strange dreams, feel sick now and again and for the most part very calm until somebody presses my buttons!!! ask my son he wanted to know if i was on steriods!!!!Big plus not smoking not wanting to smoke so i guess i will do the hard yards for the 12 weeks good luck everyone

Ron, Perhaps you need to stop taking the pills - 4 months is a long time - you said you are not smoking - do you need them???? All the best.

• Hii all, 19 days as a non-smoker…

Hii all, 19 days as a non-smoker. On 2nd pack of Champix. No side affects except dreams and dry mouth. Weird dreams can be fun and we need water to keep brain and body functioning. Heavy smoker for 45 years. Have tried every other way of quitting and this is easy peasy. The joy of waking early morning and not thinking coffee and cigarette. I feel blessed and am full of gratitude. All the best, Diana

• i found that taking the pills…

i found that taking the pills on empty stomach awlays did that to me. taking it with a bagel or a very 'bread-like' food helps me a lot. good luck.

• I have been on Champix since…

I have been on Champix since mid April. We our now early August. I think all went well for the most part. But 3 weeks ago I got into an argument with my wife. All I remember is yanking a computer from her. I saw her yesterday for the time in 3 weeks. She has told me I did alot more than that. Now I sit and can,t remember what I did. Is it the Champix or not? I don,t know. She said I was getting worse all the time.I,m still not smoking, but still using it.

• I am having the same issues,…

I am having the same issues, thanks for your blog, thought I was the only one, also having severe chest pain. Best of luck

• I am really happy for you…

I am really happy for you but champix does have some side effects for some people, and this site does help.

• ive been on the champix tablets…

ive been on the champix tablets for nearly 3 weeks now, been stopped 9 days. The worse thing for me is it gives me a very bloated painful stomach, and after taking each tablet i feel very sick for about an hour after it. Having said that, i wouldnt have been able to give up without them, been there and tried cold turkey many times, i didnt have the will power! Although the side effects i'm suffering with are impacting on my life, (i am currently sat on the my sofa with waves of nausea), i feel that in the long run it'll be worth it, as i will be smoke free for the first time in 23 years!!!! feel so much better for it and very proud of myself :-)

• I am on day 2 of quitting…

I am on day 2 of quitting and the stomach pains have been there from the moment I started to take Champix. However, it is the only thing that really works for me, and so it is worth dragging yourself through.
It is a great product for the immediate days after quitting, however, continuing to take it for months after isn't really an option for me due to the side effects.
That said, I would recommend to anyone really wanting to be free from the fags.

• Does anyonre know if Champix…

Does anyonre know if Champix affects fertility. i am wanting to start a familt after my Champix course but am worried that this will effect my fertility - already having issues conceiving...will this make it worse? Im on Day 4 at the moment.

• Ive been on it for 2 months…

Ive been on it for 2 months now. smoke free for 1 month... The dreams are kicking in. I usually drink at night as it helps me sleep. Although for the last week the drug has been giving me pretty vivid dreams, car crashes, losing my job in some im just screaming at my family. I wake up with sweats. My suggestions to people it to STILL give the drug a try, i've tried to quit before as well, never this successful (you pop 2 stupid pills in a day, really? how much easier do you want it to get??!?). A a dry mouth and drowsiness during the day is still a very small price to pay. I'll be on it for anoter month, these side effects will not be long term, its worth the minor inconvinience. I'm reading a lot of these 'opinion; as excuses to keep smoking, dont waste time reading about it. Just go take it.

• I have been taking Champix…

I have been taking Champix for a week now and all I have to report is that it is a bad thing to take with alcohol. I have only experienced depression and paranoia when drinking and have had no physical side affects at all. The way I look at it, it's a very small price to pay to quit smoking as I could quit boozing for a month without any problems! Oh and I've also had some wild dreams, some of them very pleasant and some not so pleasant.

I'd take it. I would advise anyone to do the same as I am smoke free already.

• i was previously on champix…

i was previously on champix for a month or so. after day 3 i was spoke free. i sufferd from depression and aches and pains, i got to the stage i couldnt handle anything without a cigg but now its all changing again me having gone back to the ciggs i am giving champix another go.. despite the depression an what not.. i dont want to be a smoker but thats the only thing that seemed to help or do as the doctor said it would.. Good luck everyone with your smoking control. :)

• champix is all good. Have…

champix is all good. Have been on it for 6 weeks smoke free for 5. no issues at all would recomend it any day. only side effect i did get was a little sleeping trouble for the first two week.

• I have been taking Champix…

I have been taking Champix for 3 months now and I am perfectly fine and happy. Your web site is highly misleading.

• I have been on Champrix for…

I have been on Champrix for 10 days and have been so depressed even thoughts of ending it all also really bad fights with my husband and I have told
him I am leaving him. I feel all churned up in the stomach, also itching and stomach cramps. I didn't think about the depression being caused by Champrix until I went on this site

• I took Champix for 5/6 weeks,…

I took Champix for 5/6 weeks, I started to have anxiety attacks and my aggression soared. I stopped taking the tablets and was advised to see my doctor immediately. He put me on diazepan to calm me down.

I am now suffering from the side effects of this drug 5 months after i stopped taking it. I am constantly bloated in the stomach, I have mood swings that leave me in a state of deppression. My gums bleed constantly, and my bowel movements are frequent and extemely foul smelling.

My doctor has no idea what to do and neither do I. I have gained wieght and no matter what I do cannot shift it. If anyone has any idea what to do I would be very keen to hear it.

• My husband tried to kill…

My husband tried to kill himself very low depressed mood swings and anger lucky a good friend saved him thanks be to god . I would not no what i would have done if he died.

• 4weeks into champix,felt…

4weeks into champix, felt ok on the first lot of 2 weeks(white tab i think) but the 2nd pack is a diff story. i feel ok when i have the morning tablet but decided totake the night one earlier in the arvo about 3pm to try to sleep a bit better. the 2nd tab of the day makes me feel quiet sick. Starting to have fatigue in day but trouble falling to sleep with forced breathing, too many thoughts processing. Then tossing n turnig all night. Have isolated myself on weekends simce taking it. Lucky i go to work during week or i wouldnt talk to anyone. also got the side affects of high anxiety, anger, light headed, going to toilet a lot. also very vague. stopped smoking after first 3 days as i was on patchs leading up to champix. i have become very lazy as well. just cant even seem to get on top of my house work. i have become very unmotivated. thought giving up smoking i would be more motivated. going to cut down to one tab a day from tomorrow onwards. good luck everyone

• Significant pain in my thigh…

Significant pain in my thigh and hips muscles/joints, especially when lying down to sleep. Increased moodiness, weepiness. Champix reduced my cravings significantly also, but i'm thinking...if nicotine only remains in the system for 3-4 days, why is this a 12 week program? I figure I'll go 28 days, then hald the dose for 28 days. Surely by then I can unlearn the old habits. After all that time, FOR SURE there is no nicotine in my body...So, the rest is psychological anyway, make sense?

• My partner and I started…

My partner and I started taking Champix at the same time, I suffered from very bad Nausea from the start especially in the morning we both suffer from broken sleep. But what has been of most concern is our lack of sexual activity since we started to take the tablets we are in week 9, I am wondering if others are experiencing the same but are too embarrased to mention it. Despite that the Champix are working for both of us. But I am still concerned.

• hello everyone im on day…

hello everyone im on day 10 aside from the nausea and lower back pain im doimg great but reading some of the comments im scared now... is anyone feeling lower back pain?

• Hi Julie. I am on week eight…

Hi Julie. I am on week eight and I have the stomach cramps bloating and constipatation which commenced around week five also I only had the nausea and headaches and a few minor side effects when I first started but the stomache problems have really flared over these past weeks. I will continue to take as long as I can as I would be afraid I would start smoking again. Thats something I don't want.

• Unlike you and the runs I…

Unlike you and the runs I have been constipated to the point of bleeding. Stomache pains and bloating are driving me crazy. I believe the symptoms take a fair while to abate?? Good luck and hope you stay smoke free.

• I too have all of your side…

I too have all of your side effects. Have been on Champix since the start of May and side effects are still causing me grief especially the constipation,(which has me bleeding)stomach pains ,flatulence, and bloating to the point I feel I may explode, but thankfully the nausea and headaches have subsided (yep I have had heaps of side effects). I have cut my dosage from two a day to having half twice a day. Side effects still there so not much difference even when you cut dosage.I set myself day 11 and by day 12 I had not had one single cigarette and have been smoke free since. Coming from a smoker of 40Yrs I am so happy. Don't get caught up in the bad publicity of side effects for Champix after all don't we see bad publicity for smoking and side effects that are are far more serious than the ones experienced from taking Champix. Make your choice people..some minor or severe side effects from Champix which we will eventually overcome or side effects from smoking...GOOD LUCK

• Hi Laura I think by now…

Hi Laura

I think by now you have quit smoking so if you feel that bad from the drug stop the drug

• Half way though the 12 week…

Half way though the 12 week course. Not smoked for over a month but have had various side effects. Same as most people. Whilst not pleasant none have actually caused me to give up yet. I keep thinking they are a small price to pay at the end of the day. I am sure I have come off lightly with the nausea, tremors, weird dreams, general weak feeling etc. but what a wonderful end result if I can truly be a non-smoker for the rest of my life!

• So I have been on it for…

So I have been on it for 7 weeks now, I have quit smoking, the first 6 weeks went ok, lack of energy, nausea.
Now on week 7 I feel like I hate my life, im so depressed, Im questioning my marriage, my kids, my life in general. I have decided that yesterday is my last day of the drug. Also I too have had the headaches too above my left eye.

• After I finished the Champix…

After I finished the Champix course (3 months) I had sudden problem with my Thyroid with very high cholesterol then a brain stroke
I can not assume that these problems are related to Champix so if anyone has any idea please inform me, Hisham_shiaty@yahoo.com

• I'm as sick as a dog. Day…

I'm as sick as a dog. Day 21 and I have never needed to take so many afternoon naps. I'm wide awake at 4am. I have never felt so bloated in all my life and have at least 200 farts each day. I hate this drug and I'm backing off to one blue tablet a day just to get some normaility back in my life, at day 28 I'm throwing them away - win lose or draw on the cigarettes. This is living hell!

• Stick to it everyone! I am…

Stick to it everyone! I am on my last day of Champix Today. I have been on it for 16 weeks I quit on February 28th and today is a wonderful Day. I know there are alot of side effects with scare people off. and trust me it is well worth waiting it out. I feel great. After smoking a pack a day since I was 12 and am now 32 this is the wonder drug. Yes the side effects can be tough but honestly push yourself thru it. The Nausea the vomitting, the sketchy dreams, the hunger, the lack of sleep. Is totally worth it. After personally taking this medication for 16 weeks I can say I feel great. Infact am a bit nervous about what will happen next however I Made it thru the worst part so some negative side effects when coming off this medication i expect, However will pull thru them the same way i pulled thru the last 16 weeks. I know I have not been easy to deal with for the past while as i have been very irritable however I am most certain this is best for me! and those around me will and have seen a difference in me already. I know my doctor had directed me to a pharmacy and an 800 # for whenever i needed to talk to someone and honestly i cannot even imagine ever useing that support system. the pharmacist was a complete waste of time. when i picked up my perscription she said she would call me on saturday 2 days after i started the medication and here i am 16 weeks later still waiting for her call. Anyone that wants to quit will quit when they are ready, however those that dont want to will quit one way or another i guess.
Good luck to anyone out there who is in process or thinking of quitting. I feel the outcome is well worth the struggle.

CHAMPIX IS WICKED, 30 a day for 13 years, very agressive smoker, I smoked for the first 2 weeks(while taking tablet every 12 hours with food), then cut down to six a day for 2 days streching out that morning one, then 3 a day for 2 days then 1 a day then a couple of drags then threw it, hardly had to face any cravings at all, I have givin up drinking for now and are jamming fruit and vegetables into my mouth, nearly feeling like a kid again, will not smoke again the filthy things, AND HAS FOR SIDE EFFECTS IT IS ACTUALLY GOOD TO HAVE A REST FULL SLEEP AND HAVE A DREAM FOR A CHANGE ITS BEEN 13 YEARS!!!!!!!! • Champix is poison I would…

Champix is poison I would recommend that he ween himself off it ASAP and seek alternative methods of quitting smoking. The side effects he is having need to be reported to Health Canada or whatever your governing body is so the magnitude of the problem will be known and they can take it off the market. Some people get better after they stop taking it while others like myself got much worse. The best thing to do is pray for your son and do whatever you can to help him through this difficult time. Healthy eating, excersise etc may help.

• I'm taking champix and have…

I'm taking champix and have all the same symptoms except being unable to sleep... They make me very sleepy. I've been on champix for 6 weeks now. The first week I had very strong side effects. After about 3-4 weeks, most of the side effects went away. I find the sside effects weren't nearly as bad if I ate a large meal first and drank 1-2 glasses of water with the pill.

• My 66 year old father took…

My 66 year old father took champix, and now, one year later is suffering from memory loss and confusion, disoriention, and has impaired spatial abilities. He is also more withdrawn and has lost interest in doing the things he used to do. Has anyone else seen any studies evidence showing a correlation of memory loss with this drug? Your help would be appreciated.

Day 1: Smoked as per usual, VERY difficult to fall asleep d/t pruritis, RLS, as well as geralized restlessness
Day 2 : Smoking decreased by half. Did not get much pleasure from it...nor anything else. Felt like a complete zombie, and made the decision to not drive. Heart palpatations, severe anxiety, generalized restlessness, RLS, diarrhea, and mild dypnea (likely related to anxiety) & shoulder/back ache.
Day 3: Smoking reamined same as day 2. Symptoms of restlessness, anxiety and back ach remained. Though anxiety lessened. Still having difficulty concentrating. Other symptoms subsided.
Day 4 (today): Smoking more. ~ 4 more than previous days at this time. Generalized muscle aches, mild anxiety.

5th Week of Champix, so not smoked now for 3 weeks. Have experienced really bad headaches, mainly in the eyes, like acute sinisitus, will have to go to doctors to see if being caused by champix. Hope I do not have to come off them as really working for me. Tried everything over the years and this is the easiest way of giving up. :) depression has got worse, but always had problems with that over the years any way. Fingers Crossed,

im on champix 8 days now and five minutes after i took the blue pill (1mg) bang side effects: cramps, tiredness, lower back pains, pins and needles in feet, sleep disturbance so on so forth. None of these affected me on the white pill (0.5mg). Went to doctor he told me half a blue pill to make it .5mg which is sufficent to help deal with the cravings. Hope this helps

I am amazed by the progress, I have smoked for over 30 years atleast 1 pack a day...since I have been on this, I have had no cravings or desire to smoke!! The only one bad thing for me is the nausea.....I am hoping it gets better!

• Very Positive did not need…

Very Positive did not need to complete the entire course and remain non smoking since 29/07/2009. I have had no desire for a cigarette. I tried a puff and just could not do it. I am actually pleased as I don't have to move away
from people who are smoking despite the smell I don't need or want a cigarette. I have also shared this with others wishing or considering stopping smoking. The information provided to me on the benefits of Champix as well as the side effects greatly helped in making an informed decision to use this medication. I suffered no side effects.

• I finished the champix treatment…

I finished the champix treatment and I am still smoke free. I am easily agitated. I have had an awful rash, doctor says it's a fungal infection in all hot spots, since I finished champix.....any relation you think?

dizzyness as in both, light headiness and feeling of wanting to faint, it varies.

• stomach ache, vomiting, burping…

stomach ache, vomiting, burping up sick, gas, dizzyness, faintness, awareness decrease of what people say, uninterested in food, tiredness, head ache, feeling sick, bloated stomach, constipated, feeling cold/shivering. I never want to smoke another sigarrette again, its only habit and stress that makes me want one, but I wont as I know I will feel even worse. This drug could be excellent to achieve a non smoker, its crazy how it works but seams to be effective so far. I'm only on my second week, I hope it gets easier but I will carry on.

• I am on Day 4 of not smoking…

I am on Day 4 of not smoking and Day 13 of Champix. My side effects are severe, within minutes of taking the pills I am feeling extremely sick, within the hour I am vomiting. I have no energy and I can randomly fall asleep during the day. But at night I have the vivid dreams then lie awake for hours. I have spent the last 3 days in bed. On the plus side I am feeling far too sick to smoke and feel ill when I think about it. I will keep going as I am determined to quit for life.

• IM ON MY 5TH DAY OF CHAMPIX.…

IM ON MY 5TH DAY OF CHAMPIX. Feeling the side effects already and have only cut down on the cigZ. My quit day is on Monday and I have already considered throwing the pills in the bin. I want to quit smoking badly and have tried various ways, I feel that Champix is working and with just a little more will power I will be able to knock the habit and stick it out through the harshness of the side effects. My whole family has a history of smoking, my partner has been supportive, we are doing it together, start day, quit day, and end day. I dont want to bumb out now, but I'm really feeling it... Advise?

• I am very sorry to hear that…

I am very sorry to hear that you experienced such bad side-effects. Don't make a general case of your own experience.
I tried to stop smoking 4 times. Each time I was deprressed, drinking more alcohol, wanting to throw myself at the window. SOME OF THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE ACTUALLY RELATED TO NICOTIN WITHDRAW.
I have now been taking Champix for a month and found it amazing. No craving at all!!!! I am constipated, I have flatulence and I am nauseous in the morning. But hey, it's just for a few weeks.
I highly recommend Champix.

horrible pain in the left hand leading to heart?? and very big awareness of my heart...

• I am taking Zyprexor for…

I am taking Zyprexor for my bipolar condition. After taking Chaampix for a week I suddenly experienced a total memory loss of most of the important information I had gained over the last couple of months including my new address, telephone number, who our current Prime Minister is, - in fact what was going on in my life in general had disappeared and I was at a total loss. I went to my local hospital who told me it could be a reaction with Champix and my other medications. Basically they kept me overnight, told me to stop taking Champix and then send me home. I'm still in a dream state some three days after the initial reaction and it is a scary place to be. I will see my GP today to see if he can help me to get back on track. This isn't a good place to be at the moment.

• Hi Everyone, I am happy to…

Hi Everyone,
I am happy to say that 4 weeks into using Champix, I am now a non-smoker. I have not had a smoke for 2 and a half weeks now. I have had to contend with nausea which only lasts about 5 minutes after taking tablets. This is reduced by eating first. I have also suffered constipation but would rather use laxatives for a little while than to breathe with the use of oxygen and die of lung disease. There are so many horror stories about Champix of which I am not doubting any of them, but like immunisations and the fear campaign waged against them, it is only a small percentage of people drastically affected in the scheme of things. I know personally about 5 people that have used Champix and have been successful with giving up smokes. They too had minor side effects. I also have friends who have been totally turned off using Champix and are continuing to smoke. This is directly because of the vast amount of negative material about Champix on the net. I implore people to keep in touch with their doctors and to try Champix or another quit smoking product. There is so much support available to assist you with getting rid of this awful habit (one that I enjoyed for 28 years) until I got pneumonia and pluricy and still smoked through it. Even I thought I was crazy!!
Don't just listen to the negative side of things...You will always find plenty who will go on about the negatives...I couldn't be more pleasantly surprised with Champix. I thought giving up would be harder.

• Do NOT take CHAMPIX!!!! …

Do NOT take CHAMPIX!!!! It makes you miserable, depressed, anxious, and violent at the same time even if you have never been depressed, anxious, or violent. I wanted to jump off my balcony and cried and stressed and became violent all in the same night.
It took being off Champix for 4 days to feel normal again.

My friend had the same side effects. It is the scariest feeling I have ever felt. Wanted to check into a psych ward.

• I managed to give up smoking…

I managed to give up smoking with the aid of Champix - Sure I experienced some side effects such as lucid dreams, mood swings & nausea etc, but i also had lucid dreams & mood swing when i gave up clold turkey . the day I stop smoking was 4 weeks into the caouse. then I only took 1 table a day dreams and mood swing not so bad, but I did fall in love at the same time so was and am very happy. important thing is that I managed to give up smoking also try eating a little have tablet and eat some more.I now have no need for asthma inhalers (I thought I was asthmatic for 35 years)!! - I don't smell, I am fitter, (a little plumper), happier, more socially adept as a none smoker. Oh and the money Im saving Going oversea next year!

I guess what I am saying is that in my case, yes I experienced a number of the published side effects, but most of them I probley would of got anyway. but I am now a none smoker and aim to be that way for the rest of my hopefully longer life as a result. I think short term pain long term gain is a good analogy, although anyone that experiences extreme issues should either try a reduced dose or stop and seek advise. - Good luck to anyone that aspires to giving up smoking. After 36 years as a full time 35 - 45 a day smoker Ill never go back.

• I used Champix over 2 years…

I used Champix over 2 years ago. I'm happy to say I have also been smoke free for 2 years. I did have vivid and strange dreams and my friends and family later told me I was beyond hyper. Nine months after taking Champix I began experincing daily headaches. They were always over my left eye. I believe they are a prolonged side effect of the drug. Is anyone else experincing this?

• I went on Champix 2 years…

I went on Champix 2 years ago and had severe nausea and complete lack of energy. I do however remember it working very well and it blocked my craving for cigarettes.
I only wish I didn't have to stop the tablets after 2 weeks due to the nausea(and I mean nausea) as I think it would have worked.
I was considering giving it another chance. Do you think I will end up with the same side-effects?

• I stopped smoking on day…

I stopped smoking on day 8 of the Champix, but have had to stop due to my upset stomach. I've had the runs for 5 days now and there's blood in it. Stopped taking 2 days ago and symptoms still not gone away.

Smoke free though and enjoying the dreams :-D

• I stared taking Champix at…

I stared taking Champix at the bigining of september, within 24 hours of starting it I developed a rash on my chest. I read the side effects and it was one of them. I was red and alittle itchy but nothing I couldnt put up with to quit smoking.

I also experienced extreamly vivid dreams, not nightmeres just strange and vivid. After 2 weeks I quit without problems, after 6 I stopped taking the Champix, still havent smoked and still dont want to. Champix is AMAZING and comes highly recommended by me, the only problem is that I still have alittle bit of a rash on my chest. Has anyone else experienced this?

• I stopped smoking on the…

I stopped smoking on the 1st november 2009.Came to realise that the two tablets I was instructed to take were to much.I couldnt sleep,I had a rash on my chest,I had no concentration, and things in the house became neglected(i live alone). I have a stoma, and while taking champix I was going to the toilet every 20/25mins. I went to the emergency doctor and was told that I was dehydrated.Although I had stopped smoking, and was only taking 1 tablet the doctor suggested I stop.Which I have done.I have now got to drink a medical preparation to hydrate myself. although this only happened 3 days ago,I am now feeling much better, have had something to eat,and even washed the pots.

• I started taking champix…

I started taking champix 3 weeks ago the sick feeling is awful but i suppose it will be worth it to have stopped smoking for good i honestly dont even want to smoke now, the only other thing is not getting a full nights sleep i waken up 3-4 times a night

• You know what I absulutely…

You know what I absulutely agree with you, the reason I am taking Champix is because I am terrifed of getting cancer. Yes there are side effects, I feel as sick as a dog, im full of bruises from walking into things I have zero energy and now consider my bedtime 5.30pm! (which I fight of course cos that would just be silly) But I am not smoking hoorah! I say to everyone on this medication to keep at it, its a short spell of discomfort but its got to be worth it. Health and happiness.

• I have been a smoker for…

I have been a smoker for 32 years. Champix worked great...I was amazed. I did feel naueous at times so i took the medication with food. After the 12 weeks of Champix were done is when I started feeling edgy, hungrier and started feeling small twitiching in arms, neck and some upper muscles. It's been 3 weeks without the drug and the twitching has subsided quite a bit but now am experiencing a tingling/ weird pulling feeling in left arm. Has anyone else experienced this twitching. I suppose it's a withdrawal symtom from the Champix.
