  • I too had the same issues....and…

I too had the same issues....and wish I was told of the side effects.  The only thing I was told by the nurse was that Compazine had some weird side effects for some people.  Mine were beyond weird and complteley threatning.  The anxiety was horrible, something I have never had before or since.

  • I also had a severe reaction…

I also had a severe reaction to Compazine.  In August of 2009 I was in the ER with extreme nausea (found out as now I have gallbladder issues)  I was given compazine through IV and released.

As my husband was paying to get me discharged, I began to feel a huge weight of anxiety.  now I do have an anxiety disorder, but really have not had a severe panic attack for years.  I remember thinking wow, why am I feeling so anxious. I started to pace and feel really hot inside, my husband was giving me a strange look.  I still managed to not run to the car...I actually had thoughts of running into traffic I was feeling so anxious.  Really paranoid as well.   had so many odd thoughts, my skin was on fire, I was thinking insane thoughts, I really felt like I was out of my mind.  (I literally felt like the stars were going to shoot down on me as we left at night, I was so out of my mind)

We were only driving for about three minutes, well....he was...when my tounge began to feel strange.  I remember garbling go back to ER NOW,..my tounge..." somehow.  Hubby thought I meant my tounge was swelling...but no...it was far different.  It actually began to contort and take on a life on its own, along with a wave of such pure panic it was almost a cold blackness that overtook me.  My tounge was constricting so hard it hurt, and actually hurt for months afterwards.  By the time my husband took me back I was also holding my breath, I just could not control that, I would hold my breath for about 40 seconds at a time, with only a short 5 second between each phase to catch...hold...catch breath (barely)..hold.  Nurses were confused because there was no swelling, gave me two benedryl (oral) and sent me home.

About a 20 minute drive back, the only thing that stopped was the breath holding.  I was seeing severe flashes of light in my eyes, my tounge was hurting so bad, I felt lightheaded, anxious, paranoid, I slept not at all that night.  By morning I still felt so bad I called an ambulance...where thankfully this time I was given something to knock me out.  I really wanted to die while under this attack, and I am a happy person full of life.

This happened in August of 2009, and still am terrified when I think of it.  I still see doctors and tell them again no compazine, so much so they get irritated but I don't care.  It's a horrible experience, and now wonder if I have some post traumatic stress combined with the experience.  It was absolutely terrifying.

  • I had a very simular reaction…

I had a very simular reaction and felt suicidal as well.  I am now terrified to go to the ER when I have a migraine, I now just suffer terribly at home.

  • I was in the ER receiving…

I was in the ER receiving treatment for Complicated Migraines and they gave me Compazine in my IV. Within a minute of the injection, I was overwhelmed with anxiety. I had horrific visions and felt like my blood was on fire. When we called for the nurse, they gave me a Bennadryl injection that eased the anxiety slightly. Throughout the next 24 hours, I suffered from anxiety, jittery movements, restlessness, difficulty breathing and swallowing and insomnia. I can honestly say at a few points that the anxiety was so overwhelming that I wanted to die to end it. It was a terrible experience.
