Delsym

Tried 10ml of it and ended up with no sleep and then diarrhea after drinking tomato soup and some bean lentils.

My 5 year old son was prescribed Delsym, and after taking it for 4 days he had a completely manic episode. He climbed about 15 feet up in a tree. Later he tried to jump out of a window. It was terrifying for me as a parent. I will NEVER use this or let anyone I know and love use it. I thought I was going to have to seek medical attention for him.

Have had an annoying cough for the last 5 days. Took Delsym 3 nights ago and worked like a charm. It worked less well on night 2 and last night I felt very anxious and strange and it didn't work at all. Coughed for 2 hrs. straight and felt really nauseous. This morning feeling very foggy, weird and queasy. Won't take this medicine again.

I took the recommended dose of Delsym at 9 pm and only was able to get 1/2 hour at 3am and 1hr at 5am. I felt fine but was wide awake

to add to my previous post, It says it gives 12 hours relief, but, I took the amount recommended for a 4-6 year old and it's been at least 14 hours since I took it and i am still waiting for it to wear off. My eyes were dilated 3x its size and they are still dilated. Someone posted earlier that kids use this as a street drug and I can see how kids would use this as a street drug.

i was worried for my life!! i felt strange after I took it. I felt faint, dizzy and my mind felt numb. I felt exhausted but had the need to walk around. I wanted to rest but laying down didn't feel right either. I felt like i was going out of my mind. I didn't think straight and I had a hard time falling asleep. When I was sleeping, i still was somehow alert and had vivid dreams or thoughts that gave me the creeps. I couldn't understand why i was like this. I felt not like myself and was sure there was something wrong. I am 25 and took less than the recommended dosage. I thought it was because i had green tea and aspirin just an hour or two before I took delsym. Since i was feeling so strange, i wanted to do some research and find out where I went wrong. There doesn't seem to be an interaction with the meds and tea i took so far in my 'research' but i did come onto this page and I feel confident it's Delsym. Before even hearing about other people's reaction to this drug, I already told myself this drug is not one i'd like to give to my child or myself again! it's a shame I let my daughter take this before i had the chance to try it myself.

i am a 41 yr old male, i took delsym for a cough i caught from my child ,it was @ 6pm on fri evening, i couldn't fall asleep until 330 am , i was laying in bed with eyes wide open hoping to fade out and sleep, that was not the case. finally i was able to doze off and get 2 hrs sleep, not sure if delsym was the cause or not , usually i have no problem falling asleep, i have no other conclusion to draw except delsym was the only thing i took for my cough.i also felt cold and hot at the same time ,upon checking my body temp i fount it to be slight high 99 degrees,im not sure again if it was from the delsym but i didnt ingest any other products.

I just wanted to share that on Sunday night I had a very horrible experience with Delsyn brand cough syrup. I had vivid and terrifying hallucinations after taking it. I am not on other meds except anti-biotics for pneumonia and only took the recommended dosage. It was horrible and I literally thought I was going to die. Found out the ...next day the way this med works is by blocking the signal from your brain that tells you to cough... gives lots of people hallucinations and some kids use it as a street drug. Don't give this med to your kids (it's for 4 years and up!) and don't take it yourself! It was AWFUL!!!

I am taking hydrochorothyazide (water pill) for blood pressure. I took some Delsym last night for my post nasal drip cough.  I slept approx. 5 hours and that was it. I got up to use the bathroom and the room was spinning. I couldn't get my balance. I felt dizzy most of the morning and only started feeling better after lunch.  I felt 'hyper' and nervous, like my heart was racing.  Jittery.  I felt like I was charged up on caffeine or drunk or something. I'm lucky I was able to drive to work.  No more Delsym fo rme. I'll stick to Ricola cough drops.

Other symtoms of overdoes are vomiting and diareah and many more!

My 4 year old was told to take Delsym for cough. I gave him 1 teaspoon when needed. He was fine. He broke into the cabinet one night and took little over 2tbl spoons of it he was Shaking in Trimmors and i thought he was trying to have a seizure. I rushed him into the E.R. Pupils Dialited really big.. EYES were wide open and he was talkin funny. and couldn't be still. These were all side effects of the overdose! So if your child has had any of these it was an overdose! I would not give to children under age 4. Also he kept repeating things.

My four year old got into the medicine cabinet and opened the child proo cap and overdosed on this and he had those symptoms exactly. Very Scary!

I was yelling....not afraid....but aware that I was in trouble, and trying to take charge in case I dropped over unconscious.  I ended up with some sort of allergic reaction causing my whole body to have parasthesias...along with the tongue thing.    EMTs in tha ambulance gave me Benadryl through an IV, and I IMMEDIATELY felt the change in my tongue, and calmed down.

Threw the bottle away, and agree...cannot BELIEVE it is still on the shelves.  DANGEROUS stuff.

Took Delsym after recommendation from the Pharmicist for a strong Adult cough suppressant. I had a cough for about 3 days that was getting worse and keeping me up at night. It worked for the cough but I definitely did not have a restful night of sleep. I felt like the my engine was running all night long and I tossed and turned constantly. About 4am I finally got to sleep about 3 hours.
In the past the only cough suppressant that has really worked for me is something with codeine in it but you have to have a prescription for that, what a hassle that is, doctor appointment etc. At least you can get some sleep with it. I will use this very sparringly in the future.

I gave Delsym to my 6 year old daughter and it was horrible!!!  She was up all night long hallcinating, her heart beat was very fast and could not relax to fall asleep.  I will never give it to any of my kids again... 

I don't know why there are no lawsuits against this company. Why is this shit on the shelves? I went into cardiac arrest. Nearly died and have suffered serious repercussions from merely treating a cold. I was hospitalized, and accused of "robotripping" which I had no idea was the use of Delsym. They told me that I had to have been using it for fun because I smoke pot too. Umm... medicinal marijuana? Fucking assholes. It's highly addictive and does not help a cough. It only gets you hooked on their syrup so you stay up all night trying to figure out if you can take more or not. I found out the hard way that you should never take this product for any reason. You kids getting high off this shit must be absolutely retarded. Seizures, heart attack, etc are not the way to go. If only I had known about the illegitimacy of this product I could have saved myself the near death experience, the trip to the ER, the ER bills, the sexual side effects (yeah my dick still doesn't work correctly) and whatever psychiatric problems I am left with. FUCK YOU DELSYM!

okay we druggies bow down to you, we all make mistakes.... well except ur perfectness that is pssssshhh, LOSER!!!!

I used delsym everyday for 6 months and had had a mental breakdown as well as a number of stomach and head problems. After be instituitionalized for trying to kill myself why on delsym i can't even look at a bottle. The first trip is awful the more and more u take it it tricks u in to thinking that its useful because u learn how to control ur trip. This is where its starts ur mental breakdown. i highly advise no one to every take more than the recommended dose, this coming from someone who now feels nothing of 10 oz. of it. I even advise no one to take the medicine, now i understand with hectic schedules is the most convenient but if its somethin rest and alot of fluids cant handle then stay away from dxm (active ingredient in delsym).

I have been sick for 3 days ......and i do not ever take medicine......

In life we all try things that are looked at strange by other people. We need to take care of our body and treat it right. One day we will grow up and become older and wiser. Then it will be to late the damage will be done. We will look back and WISH we could change how we misused it. Get a grip we all pay for what we do in this body.

I drank a whole bottle of Delsym hearing about how amazing it can make you feel. I assure you , it was the most MISERABLE experience i have EVER in my life felt. I felt as if my mind and body were not working together, as if they were apart. I could not walk right, let alone talk. My sentences  were spaced out and did not make sense; i repeated things over and over again. I felt like i had NO control over my body. Not to mention; i was halloucinating that my insides were on fire, i couldn't breathe right, my body was physically shaking. I was rushed to the ER, they did nothing, they thought i was trying to end my life. && they found THC in my system, so they just thought i was high. but definetely dont feel that way when you're high. it was miserable. && since that incident i have been having anxiety attacks , and am now being treated for a panic or anxiety disorder.   so my words to you, don't try it. its MISERABLE.

I took it for a cough right before getting on the bus and it ruined my rep. The entire school thinks im some pot head or drunk in school. IV been compared to my drunk Uncle and im really embarrassed. Iv never taken drugs before and i have never been high/drunk. I looked like death yesterday, if it wastn for a friend that say me and dragged me to the nurses office and sent me home, i would have problem been suspended for being intoxicated at school. And to make things worse i had a test that day and i completetly bombed it. I could not even stand on my own to feet yesterday and im pretty sure im going threw withdrawl now. my hands wont stop shaking and i cant really concentrate at all. Never again

lve drank the small bottle of delsym about 4 times and i love it. you retardes need to chill and not drink so much. im 6'0 and 200 pounds and i trip of the small bottle. smoke weed right when you start getting your high it intencifies it about twice as much

i had drank 3 & 1/2 bottles of it. obviously, i overdosed. i was rushed to the er or i would've died. i just did it to get the high & drunk feeling, but this was worse. the doctors said basically i was on pcp. my heart had stopped beating for like a whole 2 minutes. i was hallucinating & i didnt know how to walk & i couldn't talk. the doctors told me that my brain was bleeding or something, i really dont remember. a lot of people have been doing delsym to get the high feeling but people should be careful cause i had almost died. i dont want that for anyone. so be careful, its not always fun..

I drank 5 oz tonight and I feel greattt . The most I've evr taken tho was 10oz and I went to a party and dnt felt crazy but then went home laid in my floor I felt like I was floating to the ceiling. It was amazing.

I took 2 tablepoons instead of 2 teasppons. I didnt realize until I got out of bed. I was dizzy,shaky,dried out, heart betting iregular, diahrea, dishoriented, extremly drowsy.headache,............ I felt crazy! Initially I paniced & called posion control when I looked at the box and saw how I took 4x's the dose. I feel terrible & wasn't sure if I was dyng. It's been 6 hs and I still feel the same bad high feeling. So not good! I can't beleive I did this! I hope I feel better soon.
