  • Hey I'm new to this but I…

Hey I'm new to this but I used to take Dex with a prescription in Primary school and after highschool during a job I wanted to go independent from Dex for a while but it didn't work.. Recently back on them and it's been an improvement of life.. Only problem is I don't think 20mg a day is enough for me to keep 100% focus.. Should I talk to my doctor about upping the dosage?

  • thanks

    thanks

  • The medication has literally…

The medication has literally changed my life. My story is very similar to those here. I have a wonderful career now primarily due to the drug. Taken properly particularly with food evens the effect of the drug, also control your doses. Drink lots of water, not alcohol! Im age 40 ang 85kg weight and my prescribed dose is 30mg per day but I try to keep it down to 20mg or less. People taking the medication have enough of a stigma in the work place and I am very careful with who I discuss this subject with. Support your partner and seek re-evaluation from a professional. good luck

  • Don't ban them, 12 a day…

Don't ban them, 12 a day is bound to give you problems, if you skip a day. Unfortunately for your ex husband Samantha, the sleep debt caught up with him and I guess tiredness and frustration made him act as he did.
I only take 4 a day and don't have them after 3pm or I have trouble sleeping. When I do get the chance to have a day off, I skip a dose in the morning and try to catch up on sleep, because overall my quality of sleep has dropped off since being on Dexies. They have helped me immensely in my job as an Engineer.
I'm not an expert but I could imagine that 12 a day would result in pretty poor sleep and I would try to have a day off to catch up too.
But yeah, its not the Dexies fault, its the variable dose. I doubt the doctor recommended take 12 a day for 6 days and then none for a day. I'd psych too.
Instead of blaming a medicine that helps so many that use it properly, why don't you try and understand your ex and forgive him.
I know I cant fully understand your situation, but don't push to ban Dexies. It sucks having ADHD with all the failures and missed opportunities that it brings. Dexies have improved my life a lot. I only wish I got diagnosed at 12 and not 28 because it was a hard long road not being able to pay attention.

  • i'm over 40 and have been…

i'm over 40 and have been used ,abused ( sexually by several women  and tried by some males ) and conned, ripped off ect and when i tried to report it or do something about any of it i would be either brished off or told i'm wasting police time or that i was the guilty one , all because i couldn't communicate properly or was distracted by something shiny so to speak. Now it's been a hard slog to relise i do have rights and to stand up for myself i'm finding that the governing body or should i say some beuracrat has decided i'm not an adult and i must beguilty of something illegal and therefor he can treat me as some sort of scumbag who is sub human and without rights. try to buck this treatment and you get left without the ability to stand up for your rights because they simply withdrawl the medication so you remain what i call bouncy or full fledged adhd. being able to talk to others normally and be accepted as more than a joke they can laugh at and even be respected are things i don't and shouldn't have to give up. i am treated like a criminal because i am on them and treated like a fuckwit or fool when i'm not. Wonder why those like me become frustrated and aggressive ? Oh yeah don't treat us and we won't be able to work and pay tax instead we will be forced onto centerlink and will do crimminal things because of desperation and to hit back so probably end up in jail costing australia millions.

  • dexamphetamines have helped…

dexamphetamines have helped me tremendously before i was diagnosed and i was diagnosed as an adult not a child i could never hold a job let alone my attention span and had a lot of relationship and family problems the problem is not the drug it is that some people aren't diagnosed properly or just missed diagnosed even not monitored or receiving the proper counseling you cant just give a prescription for such a powerful medication and expect every thing to be OK here in Australia its more strict once diagnosed by a psychiatrist you are put on a trial dosage and you explore all the different medications for ADHD so the right one is being used for you you have to see your psychiatrist once a month and you also have to get counseling from a psychologist to help you manage your self and cope and learn how to organize and deal with this disorder it is real and when treated and monitored pro ply it has helped allot of sufferers in their lives if some one is having as bad a reaction as some posted below they need to see their doctor seek a second opinion and get counseling or help

  • 12per day is ~60mg that is…

12per day is ~60mg that is a very high dose! the maximum perscribable dose is 13per day or 65 mg, nowonder he was with drawn. I've taken dexamphetamine for 20 years for ADHD, but I never take more than 7 a day and I usualy keep it around 4 or 5 tablets per day ~20-25mg. In ADHD dexamphetamine stimulates the brain to produce the neuro transmitter ephidrine which alows you to concentrate, ADHD people dont produce enought or produce it iraticaly causing concentration difficulties and hyperactivity. when dexamphetamine wears off especialy from a very high dose the ephidrine levels fluctuate which can be very frustrating. You become eaily distracted and then concentrate on things that distract you and you get worked up very quickly unless you have lernt how to cope with it.

People with ADHD often suffer from depression too, depression complicates things and makes it harder to concentrate and you will need a higher dose to over come this wjhich can lead to doses around 12perday but the sideffects increase to.

Depression has to be treated if posible with out drugs.

On adult males >21 dexamphetamine interferes with libido, not permanantly but with prolonged use it can lower testosterone levels in males. this can be corrected with out coming off then using HCG.

I would not say that its is an addictive drug to ADHD people. I have difficulty remebering to take it before I go to work and I come off it where ever possible.

I would not say its a dangerous drug, from an over dose pont of view it is much safer than neurofen. It has side effects umplesant ones particularly when it comes to socialising and libido. but it allowed me to get an education, go to university, hold a job. people get put under so much preasure these day and that is the real problem.

Ive tried the diets and the fish oil and they dont work for me so banning Dexamphetamine would just cost me my career.

Also ADHD is much more comon than people realise and the increase in perscriptions of dexamphetamine is due to greater awareness of it occurance.

My advice is see a good pychiatrist, keep your dose to a minimum, controll stress and depresssion and take up a hobby that will make you socialise like scuba diving.

  • 24 year old son been on examphet…

24 year old son been on examphetamine 6 per day for 3 months. he is aggresive anxious, cant think straight, cant talk properly (hard to find the words) just cant function..ADD adult diagnosis...I am scared....could it be the pills.

  • My ex husband is now my ex…

My ex husband is now my ex husband because he trusted a doctor that never cared about him, and he was diagnosed with adult ADHD, he was then put on DEXAMPHETAMINE 3 a day, for a year. After that he put the dose up to 6 per day, a year later 9 per day, a year later 12 per day and has been on them for 10 years now. When he was withdrawing on a typical Sunday afternoon, because he said he has to take none on Sundays to be able to get through the week at his busy job, and then he stayed in bed all day on the Sundays because withdrawing gave him depression. Well, one of these Sundays he was very depressed and was acting crazy, and ended up becoming violent!!!
He was NEVER EVER like this before EVER, and I had know him for 15 years.
I want that horrible drug banned!!!!!! The drug companies don't care about people or families or the drug's side effects!!!! just money!! I have had enough.
