I have been taking Eltroxin for more than 13 years , does t make weight loss more difficult?

4 month ago I had started to take the new Eltroxin formula which is called Levotroxin.
I was not informed by my doctor that the medicin has been change and it is not the GSK original but a generic medicine. Last 2-3 month I am facing watering eyes and blare vision. I went to the eye doctor but the drops he gave me did not solve the problem. I was not aware at this point that iit is probably because of the Levotroxine.

I am regularly taking Eltroxin for last 15 years due to Hypothyroidism, however for the last 6 months both my of both fingers severely got affected with inflammation and pain especially in the night time. Xray has taken but could not find any conclusive findings. Some time I suffer with headache and digestive problem. I would like to consult with Homeopathy treatment, whether the same will be useful or not. Only time will tell.

I have severe headaches, cramps in my legs, numbness of the fingers, forgetfullness, lack of energy, deppresion and excessive sweating and I gained weight instead of losing it. I stopped my Eltroxin three days ago and all of the sympoms are gone I think clearly now, little headache still, I don't have the excessive sweating and I don't feel so depresed any more.

Hi, I started using eltroxin bout 3 months ago. Dr said I was borderline, which ment they nearly wernt gonna treat it. Started on 25mg per day, then upped to 50mg. Hv severe headache all the time, grainy voice and constant dry sore throat. Pain in back of neck up into head. All this on top of not feeling any better than I used to. Fatigue etc. Will def c if theres alternative meds. Hate feeling this shit!!!

I called my Dr today and explained my frustation and he recommend that I use Euthyrox. I have not started using it yet... but I sure hope and pray and it works!!

Hi I have been on Eltroxin for the past 5 months and I have never ever felt this bad in my life. I am constantly hungry and the worst part for me is the depression and the tiredness. I have never ever been this depressed in all my life... it is a horrible feeling :( There are some days that I think that I cannot go on anymore, but I just pull through for my kids!!

eltroxin has seriously changed my lifestyle.nowadays i have one symptom or the other.it is so frustrating.i am experiencing all the symptoms mentioned on the side. is their any treatment to help the side effcts. thanks..

I was on eltroxin for about 3 months, the left side of my thyroid were removed due to a big nodule. I felt really good for the first month but then the heart pulpatations, mood swings and tiredness started.  I woke up depressed every morning.  About a week ago I decided to stop using the eltroxin, I feel much better, I'm still a bit tired, but it is nothing compared to how I felt while using eltroxin.

Thats sounds just like me, I have been using eltroxin for 30 years and battle with weight gain, muscle aches, mood swings, also tired too.

I was on eltroxin for nearly 2 years and found that the mood swings and heart pulpatations were not funny.. i was even accused of being bipolar.. so i decided to stop taking the medication... what could be the consequences???

I have been taking Eltroxin for some time now and find it amazing.  I was orginally on Synthroid and found that I wakened every morning with morning sickess, just as I did when pregnant.  Changed to Eltroxin, but had to have a bit of Cytomel which helped to convert the Eltroxin so that my body could use it.  When I have had symptoms that indicated my meds were out of whack the doctors have told me to cut back on the Eltroxin, which I did and the symptoms would disappear.  interestingly enough, the two times this happened was after a substantial weight loss.  Good luck to you folks suffering with being told that your numbers are in the right range.  i was told the same thing, but had a terrible time until the addition of Cytomel.  One size does not fit all and the sooner that doctors realize that the sooner more people will get the help that they need.  GP's aren't the answer.  Endocrinologist's are more apt to do the through bloodwork that is needed to assertain the need for whatever medication is needed. 

I started taking meds for hypothyroidism about six months agol. My Dr. started out at a fairly low dose, ande now I am taking El Troxin 0.1mg.  In the pastr year I had a larger weitht gain and was told I should lose the weght when I stared taking the meds.  I eat properly and still I have not lost anyh weight.  Also, I was told I should notice a difference in my energy level - not so, if anything I feel more tired.  It's like I don't want to do anything.  I used to be full of energy and always on the go, but not any more.  Also I've noticed that I get these sores in my mouth that I nver had before I stared taking this mediation.  Has anyone slse had this side effect?

im currently taking eltroxin!!! and i have been getting awful hunger pangs..............i just cant stop eating!! also i have been suffering from depression since starting my course 4 weeks ago

I have been hypothyroid since my son was born over 22 years ago. I have had to increase it over the years and now I am up to 250 mcg a day..very high! I am also iron deficient, low b12, low vit d.. I used to take all these in the morning with a glass of orange juice followed by a high fiber breakfast. Only after doing more research have I found that I shouldn't be taking all of these together. Vitamin c prevents absorption as does iron, and a high fiber meal. So today I did something about all this. I had a blood test done that is outside of the regular medical system coverage but will give me a more complete analysis of what is going on with my body. Many of your hormones have top work together and they all need to be working well. I read Suzanne Somers book BREAKTHOUGH and the information was well worth buying it. WHether you take syntroid or eltroxin, both are synthetic hormone replacement and have their side effects. There is another option called bioidentical hormones which are made from natural elements. This phamacy where I have gotten the blood work done gives these bioidentical hormones. They have been doing this is Europe for years but is not that well known in North America. At the back of her book, Suzanne gives resources of where you can go to get the blood work done and if you choose to get the bioidentical hormones. I'm thinking natural is a better option than synthetic.

I was afreid too with the synthroid and got the look from my dr. when i said i dumped it and refuse to go back on it .. believe it or not i had the same things u have had . these two drugs are suppose to be sister.... after reading these postings i am not going on eltroxin... believe it or not you want to know what it does call your local veternarian they know more than your drugest ..

I so agree i was getting the same thing on syntroid , wieght gain i could not control , my moods were out of control .. all kinds of things .. now she wants me on eltroxin . doesnt seem to any better for you than the synthroid .. i got mad went off of it for a month now . I acually have my life back i refuse to go onto the synthriod again .. now i have no faith in the iltroxin what the hell are they giving us . I feelllllllllllll way better now i am on nothing .. my blood work say i am t14 .. so what is up with that ... i have no faith in the blood work my body is telling me there is something wrong with the medication .... i dont want to live all my life being cranking , no sex life , in a brain fog , dry sking ta boot ... swollen angkles , sore feet to the point of pain ... muscle cramps .. i could go on and on

I have just a month ago gone off of synthroid , it was making me so feel so terrible i stopped taking it . wieght gain , headachs , dry skin everything it was suppose to take away .. it gave me ... now she wants me to go on eltroxin . can anyone tell me if they have had luck on this drug i am seeing i feel better with out any meds but my dr. says my t4 is at 14 ... now she has moved and i am without a dr. ...wonderful ..

I am glad to find out there is someone out there like me. SInce I started taking eltroxin 3 years' ago I have not felt myself and each time I have to up the medication I feel worse not better! The doctor says he has never heard of that and blames my busyness, but I don't feel fully in control of myself- I am incredibly forgetful, stopping sometimes midsentence unable to continue, I feel very tired- I am a morning person and cannot remember a morning when I woke up and jumped out of bed, and I am just not myself. I have always been an energetic, highly accomplished individual, but I am struggling and am convinced that eltroxin has something to do with it, but am scared to stop. I am on 0.15MG a day (started on 0.05), can anyone help me?

i was diagnosed with hypothyriodism almost 15 years ago.  I started out on 0.25mg i am now at an alarming 500mg yes 500mg per day.  There was a stage that i had to take 600mg per day for about 12months.  I have tried not taking it at all but then i tend to become tired irratable mood swings depression and insomnia.  Is there any advice out there please.

I experienced added anxiety, lack of concentration/focus and became forgetful to such an extend that I would be in the middle of a sentence and then is unable to complete it.  I had heart palpitations (in peaceful resting position for over an hour and my heart rate would suddenly just pick up the pace to 112 beats per minute - for which I am now using Adco-Bisocor).  I am on Crestor for cholesterol and was also now diagnosed with Bipolar disease for which I am using Faverin and Welbutrin.  Could Eltroxin have any effect on your voice quality (pitch), and your libido?  What could cause for your legs (shin area) to retain water for almost 2 years now?  Have been on Unat 10 to get rid of the water, but whether I take it or not, the problem remains te same. I am only nearing my forties now...

I have been suffering from hypothyroidism for the last 12 years ... 2 years ago my thyroid was completely removed due to cancer ... I do suffer from severe headaches all the time ... could this be because of the eltroxin ... I take 150mg every night for the past 2 years ... my bloodworks also show that the dosage is correct.

I have Hypothyroidism and have been taking Eltroxin 5mg for a year now. I have noticed that I am quite forgetfull, have problems with focus, fatigue, abdominal discomfort and back pain, irregular menstrual cycles, depression and anxsiety. Isn't Eltroxin supposed to help relieve these general Hypothyroidism symptoms? What am I swallowing a pill for every night? Apparently according to my blood work the Eltroxin dose is correct, however I have seen no improvement. The symptoms are debilitating at times.

I had my thyroid removed 11 years ago since it was cancerous. I have been taking 200Mg eltroxin per day 25 mg on Saterday and feeling fine. 6 months ago my blood pressure  was going up and was perscribed 25Mg atenolol and recently began feeling very tired, irratable and warm flashes, I have also been under very much stress for the last 5 months as a result of a law suit. Is therea conection between the atenolol, strees and the way I feel?

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis for 25 years. I'm taking eltroxin for last 12 years (produced in UK). Two weeks ago I started with new eltroxin, produced in Germany, tablets are a little bit bigger and more breakable. After 2 or 3 days I already felt difference - like a Hyperthyroidism.

Good day. I started to use Eltroxin on 29.11.2009 due to a complete thyroid removal. Up till today I'm extreemly moody and my brain is extreemly slow, almost as if I'm retarded. Could this be a hormone affect caused by this drug?
