• I had my second Ferrlecit…

I had my second Ferrlecit infusion yesterday and am so jittery that I can't sit still. I felt tired and weak afterwards, but have tolerated it pretty well so far (despite the fact that they can't ever get a vein without poking me 3 or 4 times). It is really kind of strange though - I thought I'd feel like crap and I've gotten more done in one day than all week. My husband keeps telling me I'm talking too fast. Anyone ever heard of this type of side effect?

  • Been doing ferrlecit infusions…

Been doing ferrlecit infusions therapy for just about 10 years, but I've got to say, the more I do it, which is every 6-9 months for 2-3 weeks, it is just making me so sick. I cannot function. I feel like vomitting most of the time and have lost another 15 lbs (I'm 5'7" and now under 125 lbs). Feel like crap and I have 2 more days and I just don't know if I can do this anymore. I have other healt issues, which complicate things even more, clotting disorder, diabetes, SLE, and the list can go on. I still manage to work but I wondered if others were struggling with extreme nausea, muscle pain and horrible fatigue during the treatment period whichis about just as bad if not worse than the fatigue I am treating. So, I am frustrated. I just finished day 8 of 10 day treatment and I just want to stop. Can't use a port due to clots, so I destroy my veins but it's better than getting a pulminary embolism for treatment I only do 1-2 times a year. I have tried to continue working through this and it is not going well. It's not like I'm a rookie at this been doing it for a long time but it is just getting harder and harder each time and I am not sure why. Reason I do Ferrlecit and not the Iron Dextran is due to an anaphalaxic reaction. I still react to Ferrlecit so they always pretreat with Benedryl and I got tired of the Solumedrol with the weight it puts on a person and already have to take Prednisone enough as it is. Any suggesstions out there?

  • After my first infusion with…

After my first infusion with Ferrlecit, I had a mild headache and was extremely tired for two days and had some body aches as if I had the flu. After my second infusion, about a half hour before the infusion was finished, I started getting terrible stomach pains and my feet/ankles were burning and tingling. After the treatment was finished, I could barely walk. I had extreme pain and stiffness in all of my joints after the burning/tingling wore off. I was given Tylenol, Prednisone and Benadryl and sent home. It's the following day and I'm much better but still experiencing some pain in my knee and elbows. I'm in fear of taking this again even with Predisone and Benadryl. I have three treatments to go but I don't think I'm going to complete them.

  • Horrible experience with…

Horrible experience with my 1st infusion of Ferrlecit. After the IV was taken out I experienced severe back pain, then chest pain with shortness of breath, rash, severe pain in alll of my joints especially my legs. Within minutes I became unable to walk but was still sent home from the Dr. office after they gave me Benedryl & Solumedrol IV and the chest pain & SOB went away after 45 minutes. After getting home I vomited twice & preceeded to pass out & went to the hospital. My EKG revealed lack of oxygen to my heart which I was admitted for 2 days for rule out a heart attack. The pain in my legs went away after 2 days. I finally had a stress test to see if any damage was done to my heart which was negative. Will never get this infusion again!!!

  • not good but the benefits…

not good but the benefits outweighed the risks but this kind of infusion should not be done in a place where you can not be monitored where the medical personnel can react it can become a life and death situation especially when you go into anaphylaxis, time is of the essence I am an R.N. I know Thank god it did not get to the point where I had to be intubated or died the nurses reacted quickly and professionally and you could see the fear and concern on their faces because it does and can happen so my routine Iron infusion almost turned into a nightmare so I was able to do at least 5 of the 6 infusion the doctor decided to cancel the last infusion so they will test me tomorrow to see if it was effective I think so I stopped eating ice (pagophagia) I craved it I would rather do that than eat and my dentist is happy because my teeth were suffering from the ice chewing and it was annoying my family and friends. Happy Holidays to all.

  • check your blood pressure…

check your blood pressure to make sure its not low and definately call your doctor.I went into anaphylaxis which is a serious thing, luckily it was at an infusion center and I was swollen up like the Michelin man my fingers and hands became so swollen could not see my veins and I could not make a fist and then my throat began to close so I had to have 2 doses of steriods and benadryl my reaction was right after the first one was mild then as I had the second of the 6 infusions the reaction got worse and thats when I had to get the steroids and benadryl also I fainted and had chest tight ness when I got home after the first one so since the benefits outweighed the risks meanining I was so anemic so I needed the infusion they ran my infusion over 2 hours instead of one and pre-medicated me

  • I would call your doctor

    I would call your doctor

  • I had an infusion 2 days…

I had an infusion 2 days ago and have had multiple infusions over the past few years. I've been given Venofer and Ferrlecit and have had reacitons to both a couple of hours after the infusion. I become nauseated, feel like I am going to pass out - very out of it, I get shooting pains all over my body, my neck and head get stabbing pains and the back of my neck/lower skull have a burning sensation. My skin becomes very senstive to the touch, almost a burning sensation and I get the chills. I get headaches afterwards that last for a long time and medicine doesn't usually help. My hips, knees, ankles and elbows had alot of pain after my most recent infusion. It really scares me b/c I wonder what is going to happen next time.

  • I just had it today. …

I just had it today. I had a allergic reaction to the one I was first given. I can't remember the brand. This I am experiencing a feel like i am drunk. It is really weird. hard to describe. Has anybody else had this experience? I don't know whether I should call the doctor or not. I feel a little nausea and somewhat spacey. Thankyou Jeanne

  • Take benadryl for the pain.…

Take benadryl for the pain. Sounds odd but it will work. Headache, bloodshot eyes, lasting pain just below iv site. TIRED.

  • When receiving it i had mild…

When receiving it i had mild headache, then extreme fatigue came on and lasted for about 4 days, horrible muscle pain like a train hit me. Tylenol does not touch the pain and I am miserable. I have had 2 infusions so far. My third is next week and the muscle pains are getting worse.
