  • its not 1%---more like 14%…

its not 1%---more like 14% and that may even be a conservative estimate--Your doctor is lieing to you--surprised???

  • Why do doctors keep…

Why do doctors keep the availabilty of the test for DPD deficiency a secret??? My sister is a doctor, infectious disease, at St Francis in Charleston, SC. Our father was treated by an oncologist well known to my sister, a "colleague" you might say and he did not tell her about the test for DPD sensitivity or the possibility of a neurotoxic reaction due to the lack of or under production of this enzyme.
Up until last July, 2010, Our father was enjoying an active retirement which included fishing and riding his bike all over Charleston, after treatment with 5FU and mycomicin, for a NON METASTISIZED squamous cell anal tumor he is in a nursing home with painfull neuropothy, and atrophy and damage to the myelin in his brain.
I found out that since 2009 there is even an antidote to 5FU overdose, which is what the DPD deficiency causes since the person cannot clear it from the system. The antidote is Uridine Triacetate or Vistonuridine made by Wellstat Therapeutics. It displaces the 5FU in the system preventing the neurological damage. If used within 96 hours after treatment all neurotoxic effects are elliminated.
I wanted to sue for this grotesque carelessness and lack of honesty by the physician who administered this evil drug but I cannot even do that. My sister says that it would ruin her career as other doctors would seek revenge against the "family that sued a doctor". She would be ostracized and never have any more patients referred to her. She says she would have to leave town and would probably end up loosing her house.
How can we trust physicians who would not only withhold important information from their patients; but, also use their lives in some sort of money making roulette game---And then also turn against one of their own just because her sister sued one of them due to the uneccessary chemical destruction of their father??? Doctors are starting to look like a pack of snakes to me.
I'm staying far far away from them all.

  • My fiancee passed away on…

My fiancee passed away on 3/7/2011 after her second round of 5FU.  The oncologist had used the words "surprised" and "out of the ordinary" on her reaction to the first round because of the amount and severity of her side effects.  He still gave her the same dosage for the second round.  Ten days later, she was in ICU.  Seven days after going to the hospital, she was dead.  She was 47 and in incredible shape except for the colon cancer.  The doctor told us that she was part of the 1% of the population that didn't have the enzyme to metabolize the 5FU but she wasn't given the test because of the low percentage.  With that decision, the woman I loved is no longer here. Her name was Birgit.
