Forteo became a part of my…
Forteo became a part of my life on October 26, 2010 and finished February 24, 2011.
I was well prepared through my endricnologist’s knowledge and explanation, the technician who taught me the shot procedure and the Forteo information book which I read over and over again to learn all about the marvelous “new” medicine which would “build” me NEW BONES!
\My hope was high!
As time progressed, while daily shots continue my body noted different sensations it had never felt….terrible painful gas, diarrhea, muscle pains as well as aching hot muscles.
“Oh! Well part of the treatment. If Forteo does what it is touted to do, I can stand this discomfort. The booklet says this does happen.
Daily shots continue; the booklet re-read and now the information sheet which accompanies my refill. All reading materials say the same.
The Holidays approach and I am accepting the discomfort, however, as a woman in the holiday season, “I MUST DO!”
About a week before Christmas, I began to feel awful.
Our home was new, consequently, Christmas must be celebrated “here”. With family help, all went smoothly. My thinking told me that having the distraction of holiday preparation, children and grandchildren had done the trick—I was feeling better!
This did not last long. My appetite left accompanied by general all consuming weakness, depression, headaches, constant exhaustion and sleeping at every chance—during meals, Church, every time I sat down.
This is definitely different, not in the books.
We had planned a trip to Arizona for part of the winter. I could not go feeling this poorly. Almost all expenses were paid. Others were coming to share and stay with us. There was no way a cancellation could happen. I could go to Arizona to sleep!
I decided to see my Primary Care physician guessing he would tell me I had a virus. He ran blood tests and the next day he reported that my liver enzymes were especially high---so elevated that he took me off the Forteo. He spoke with the Endiconologist who did not agree that the Forteo might have caused the problem. With thanks to my Primary Care, I stopped.
October 9, 2011, I find out if permanent damage has been done to my liver by this new medicine that will “build” me NEW BONES! -

Started Forteo 7/09 and started…
Started Forteo 7/09 and started experiencing constipation almost immediately (was 67 at the time and never experienced this in my life). Spoke to Dr. and he recommended using mild lax. Continued Forteo for the two year period (constipation continued). It's now 2 1/2 months since end of treatment and I still have severe trouble. If I had known this would be the end result, I never would have started this crap.

My mother, aged 68, had good…
My mother, aged 68, had good liver enzyme readings prior to a back surgery in 2010. She was instructed to use high doses of forteo several months before the surgery and for 2 years after the surgery due to her osteoporosis. Several months after the surgery, she turned jaundiced. The doctors were perplexed because her liver enzyme readings were suddenly not good. A biopsy revealed no cirrhosis. However a recent ultrasound reported lumps on the liver and that she does have end-stage cirrhosis of the liver. She is so weak she cannot get up from bed. She has less than a year to live. Her bones are strong, but her liver is diseased and dying.

I am in my fifth month of…
I am in my fifth month of injections of Forteo. I have had no side effects. I have thick hair. I have had no hair loss. I have had joint pain in the past, but no joint pain now. No stomach pain, no nausea. I feel fine. I have high hopes for Forteo. I have had bone degeration for the last 3 years and oral medication was no longer working. Forteo may work for a lot of people. I may be one of them. I am very hopeful.

My mom took forteo for two…
My mom took forteo for two years 2006 -2008 she developed severe pain in her back, hips, shoulders and bone fractures along with rapid heart beats, hair loss, rash, stomach pain, depression and finally CANCER through out her bony stucture that spread through out her body. She was diagnosed with Cancer in June 2010 and DIED in August 2010, she was the first in her family to die from cancer. She was very healthy prior to taking forteo. She was told by her doctor that she needed Forteo for her bones, however, she was not a thin person and had no family histort of Osteoporosis, she was 64 years old at the time shed started forteo. She left behind a husband of 50 years ,five childrens and 13 grandchildrens. We miss her so much. I personally believe that Forteo is a dangerous drug and should not be taken by humans....BUT... GREED... believes otherwise.

I began having pain particularly…
I began having pain particularly in my knees and feet about one week after taking Forteo. Pain is also in my hands and muscles. It seems to travel. I also noticed that I have lethargy and some depression. I thought the depression may be due to feeling achy all the time. I reported these symptoms to my physician and he stated that they were "side effects" of the drug. I am on my second month of taking Forteo and wonder if there can be something to help with this pain.
Thanks. -
