    I have been taking hydroxyurea for 2 years. My nails had darkened initially ( they have since returned to the normal color), my hair has become very dry and breaks easily. I take 500mg alternating with 1000mg daily. The good news is my platelets have since reduced and are in the normal range.

    Female 125 lbs 59 years old. taking hydroxyureas for 1 month - only half the dose prescribed - hair thinnning, some fatigue, and digestive problems. Platelet count decreased by 200,000 but not enough to get it under 1 million. Not happy about taking this drug at all.
