Lopamiro or Lopamidol is a contrast material (tri-iodide solution) is injected intravenously or through Lumbar Puncture. Usually it is removed by the kidneys in 2 hrs. Lopamiro is known to cause vasodilations and as a result most patients with hypotension react to it adversely as soon as it is injected. To prevent this a detailed medical history is taken before applying the solution.
Most common side effect is heart related (generally arythmia). Patient must be IMMEDIATELY treated (usually with epinephrine) or result is death. -
