• I had throat cancer and followed…

I had throat cancer and followed with radiation to the throat and upper chest. Then I was put on 24 mg of synthroid, immedaitely upon taking the first pill, I had rapid heat beat, severe anxiety and couldn't breathe. Called Dr. , he said to keep taking it and the breathing never got any better. As they increased the dosage amounts, the breathing got worse and my sinus were constantly infected. And ear infections. Then a rash on my back. This has gone on for 9 years, feeling really badly, I decided to stop taking the levothyroixine. Some of the severe breathing seemed better and I have not had a sinus infection for 9 months. I need to know what I can take, as I know that the thyroid gland is not producing. I have tried all brands of "synthroid", including the Armour thyroid, they all react the same. Why can't I tolerate this drug?

Hi i'm 20 years old female, i haven't been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid but i have most of the symptoms, mainly being tierd all the time, having no energy, hungry alot, weight gain etc...as well as living a healthy lifestyle i was wondering if i could take levothyroxine to help speed up the weight loss?i've done alot of research about this i would't just take a medication that wasn't prescribed for me without thinking about it alot, it's just really frustrating because i'm sick of being overweight, i have had a blood test in the past & the gp said my thyroids fine but i don't know if it was the proper thyroid test, plus i've heard that alot of people have a few tests before there diagnosed with it & while researching it, it said that athlets take levothyroxine but i don't know if thats true.

• I am experiencing severe…

I am experiencing severe muscular pain/muscle tightening in the diaphragm and sometimes abdominal area which often leads to shortness of breath due to the abdonimal tightening. For me, the pain is equal to labor pains...they take my breath away. I often lie on the floor to get relief. The episodes are generally 1-2 times per day and last 5-10 minutes. I've been taking Levothyroxine 50mcg for 50 days and these symptoms started almost 2 weeks ago. I'm not experiencing cramping in the usual sence, more like a charlie horse tightening but it always starts right in between my ribs then radiates.

• Please seek help right away.…

Please seek help right away. My mother had her thyroid checked in October and her levels were 97.86. She was taking 125 mg of levothyroxin and her doctor upped her dose to 175mg. She experienced a very stressful situation at work and could not cope and committed suicide. Everyone that had contact with her two days before the suicide said she was unusually calm and did not seem herself at all. I firmly believe it was the change in medication coupled with the anxiety that her job presented her with.

• Im 15 i been taking levothyroxin…

Im 15 i been taking levothyroxine for a month and the doctor took me off of it n not w have been having vaginal bleeding, is that ok?

• I am 23 years old,…

I am 23 years old, and after the bith of my daughter this year I discovered the I had a very underactive Thyroid. My doctor diagnosed me, and put me on 50 micrograms of Levothyroxine to regulate my levels and help me take off the weight that I could not seem to get off.Since taking this medication I have noticed headaces, heart palpatations(and I already have a heart disease) missed periods and uncontrolable emotioins and anger.

My daughter is eight moths old and she is more precious to me than anything in this world, while I was putting her to sleep last night she pulled my hair and the rage flew.I hurt my daughter because of this, and i will stop taking this medication today!

I think it is important to know just what you are taking before you take it, and the safety of my daughter is more than worth the extra weight!

There must be something else we can do. All of the symptoms came in a burst, the anger the sadness, headaches, I could sleep all day, I should have known when a medicine is prescribed in micrograms that it was something very serious, something my doctor did not tell me, he never warned me.

• Absolutely, I feel the irritibil…

Absolutely, I feel the irritibility, rage, and anger and I have no idea why. I have dry mouth and it is getting worse. The doctor put me on evoxac which is used to treat victims of sjogren's, but the more of this I take, the more it seems that I need it.......and when I come off of it my dry mouth symptoms seem to worsen; plus, when you need to drink 10 glasses of water or more/day and I piss myself to death all day long. All of the symptoms you mention such as being lost in conversation or not paying attentiont to convesation I experience daily. I am 44 year old and not a female with a multinodular goiter.

• I am finding that I am not…

I am finding that I am not as bad as you, but I am very irratable. My wife thinks I am the biggest pain. I am on 225mg now and have also experienced bad depressions. Not like I want to top myself, but just thinking in a really negative mood.
I want off this stuff

• I'm 24 years old and on my…

I'm 24 years old and on my second trial of Levothyroxine... I found out shortly after having my son five years ago that I had Post-Partum Thyroiditis, (Chronic Lymphatic Thyroiditis) as well as Hashimoto's Disease.

My tests came back off the charts and I believe I was on 50mg or so of Levothyroxine. However, the side effects frightened me and I had to stop. The meds seemed to react off my natural adrenaline and would BURST through my body in some uncontrollable rush of emotions. Heart palpitations and uncontrolled rage led me to stop.

Five years later and the work my body was doing to repair itself has apparently stopped or slowed down and I have to take meds again. This time only 5mg, but the effects are coming back in my third week of taking it. I feel more and more out of this world. A lot of times I feel really 'high' or like that old Sudafed commercial where the guys head is on a balloon floating above his body. The conversations around me don't feel very real... sometimes it seems really optional to respond to questions directed at me, as if I have retreated inside myself. The rage is returning as well. :[ It's very sudden and explosive and it rushes through my whole body like fire. I find it comes out mostly after a small amount of physical exertion, again - perhaps responding to my natural adrenaline.

For example, walking down the hallway after walking up the stairs I trip over a toy and instantly feel the warmth radiate from my chest down my arms and spine - i explode with rage and smash the toy to pieces while berating my son for leaving it there. This is not who I am and I want it to stop, but I need to keep taking the meds. I've talked to a few doctors about these mood side effects and they all say they've never heard of it.

Does anyone else experience heightened rage/anger while taking Levothyroxine?!

• I've taken Levothyroxine…

I've taken Levothyroxine and always experience a rash on arms/legs within a couple of days. When I go back to non-generic the rash goes away. What is in the carrier that causes this reaction? Is there a way to take the generic with something else (ie. anti-histimine) that would be less expensive than Synthroid?

• Ive been taking 100mcg levothyro…

Ive been taking 100mcg levothyroxine for two weeks my throid level returned at off the scale and is apparantly supposed to be between 4 and 7 (it was past 100). I feel really calm and quite depressed. Like somones taken me out of my body. Is this normal?

• If Levothyroxine has caused…

If Levothyroxine has caused you bad side effects, first ensure they aren't just from your thyroid being out of balance... if your thyroid is in the normal range and you are still experiencing these symptoms, you might ask to switch to the name brand - Synthroid. Some people just react differently to generic brands. Note - one thing I learned recently is that the "hair loss" usually shows up the month after your thyroid has been out of range because a low thyroid weakens your hair and as your hair grows those weak spots tend to break when brushed, etc... so really it isn't hair loss, but sections of hair that are more fragile.

• Am a female 26years. I've…

Am a female 26years. I've been on thyroxine for a year and a half and it has been a very helpful drug except the expense involved where by I've got to visit the doctor almost every month, then pay doctor's consultation and then go to the lab to get my tsh, t3 ,t4 tested such that my hormone is not out of rage. And the doctor has to keep changing how much thyroxine I take depending on what the results from the lab show.

Apparently Ive some how learnt to read my results and its interesting and I will be going straight to the lab and I reduce on the costs of the doctor's consultation fee.

So if you are on thyroxine hung on don't loose hope it will eventually be helpful when you take the right dose.

• its quite a good drug if…

its quite a good drug if you are well monitored by the doctor and taking regular tsh,t3, t4 tests to monitor the hormonal balance.

I've taken it for a year and half.

• I am 52 and I have had alot…

I am 52 and I have had alot of side of effects from taking levothyoxine.I started taking this about 6 months ago when I went to a new doctor and they put me on it. I have NEVER TAKEN THIS BEFORE. My new doctor first started me on 50 , then 75 and 88. I mentioned all of these side effects to my doctor , as it has kept getting worse. My doctor just told me that it's normal. It's NOT normal for me.
I have alot of aches and pains throughout my body, especially in my muscles, I am loosing my short time memory,I am tired during the day and at night I can't sleep because I have alot of acid in my mouth and throat, almost all day and night no matter what I do to releave it. My vision is going off and on, I DON'T wear glasses. Also before I started taking this medicine LEVOTHRYOXINE, I was having my monthly cylce regularly and I stopped right when I started taking this, my doctor had me to take a blood test to see if I am in mentapause, the test came back saying that I am NOT/negatiive going thru mentapause. I FEEL WORSE NOW than I ever have been before.
I want off of this drug and to get my life back and to feeling good again. I feel like I am being POISONED.

If anyone can help me, please help. My doctor dosn't want to hear my crys and my doctor wont even see me for anyother six (6) months, as per their words.

thank you
