Metoprolol

I was switched to Metatoprol by my insurance company from Toprol XL - after about 2 months on it, I started coughing and have been coughing for 5-6 months now - 2 docs just gave me cough meds and antibiotics....is it the Metatoprol?? My pharmacy says that they are the same drug, I think not

Does anyone have a nagging cough while taking metaprolol?

I was told to stop taking this medicine tonight and tomorrow because my arm is too weak to lift and I have neck and jaw discomfort. I'm afraid my pulse will shoot up to go cold turkey though. I am only on 12.5 mg twice a day. Any help?

Yes - hair loss and weight gain - tired all the time too.

I take a small amount of metoprolol, lisinopril, levothyroxine, aspirin, lovaza, crestor, zetia and nexium for mostly atrial fibrillation, underactive thyroid, and cholesterol, but I've had mild side effects, such as cough and irritable bowel. :)

I have had severe hair loss and numerous other strange side affects that doctors cannot find a reason for, but my cardiologist will not take me off this medicine. Has anyone else lost their hair and gained weight?

I was taking Lopressor 75mg twice a day plus amylopidine 2.5 mg for hypertension.  The side effects that I had were Raynauds in the middle fingers. They would turn yellow burn & prickle, I had hair loss, & a cold feeling in my Right ear.  I am off this med & no longer suffer from these awful side effects.

I have put on almost 50 pounds since taking metroprolol and I phoned my specialist and said, call your local doctor.  Give me a break, so, I am researching how to get off this medicine and will be doing so.  The side effects are worse the the desease I have, This really sucks when you get NO SUPPORT from the person you were hoping would save you..B_LL

I went to hospital twice in 9 months related to Atenalol(I was on for 4 years) and Metopolol(for last 9 months). Both gave me similar side effects; but Metapolol gave me Chest discomfort and funny feelings in the head(might be the lightheadedness). This time the doctors told me NOT TO TAKE metapolol anymore. They recommend to do more exercise and healthy eating would do the same with no any side effects at all. Any thoughts....

I took it for a few months and experienced an awful cough.  My cough did not stop until I stopped taking it.

i was prescribed metoprolol-betazok25 to treat my mild hypertension. for more than a month now, i am having bouts of dizziness and head-related discomfort. before i blame this to my eyeglasses but it seems that it is due to this medicine. my total blood chem and other tests are all normal. could my dizziness be only a reaction to this drug i am taking? ive told my dr bout it but he told me i am ok and the dose he gave is only very low. my blood pressure still rises to 140/100 at times in spite of the med which make me more dizzy. do u suggest i need to change my medication?

I am taking Betaloc 50 g.since last 11 years for treatment of coronary artery disaese with Hypertension.It has done nice to me without any problem. Since it is cardioseective, it has no adverse effect on respiratory system or any side effecct related to beta2 receptor.There was neither hypersensetive reaction or git side effect.
I think it is suitable drug for patient of coronary artery disease along with hypertension.

This drug caused my scalp to burn for over a year, also took most of it out. MY doctor never explain to me the side effects of this drug.

Started taking 100 mg. twice a day since they were supposed to last 12 hrs. Unfortunately, after 8 hrs., both my blood pressure & pulse rose dramitically & dangerously. As a former investigator, I tracked down the manufacturer & cornered on of their chemists. He said that his company & the FDA both say it only has to work over half the time to use the 12 hr. figure. He strongly recommended that I tell my primary doctor to prescribe 3 a day since the 12 hr. figure is a joke. How sad. I wonder how many people they have killed?

I took this drug [50mg] and iit ended the palpitations and chest pain. My feet were cold all the time, but it was a manageable side effect.

I was put on Metoprolol ER 2 years ago after having cancer.  I was tired all day could not sleep at night, had anxiety attacks, cold hands and feet, short term memory loss, felt srange, eyes burned at times,  back pain, constipation,  nausea and vomiting, irritability and many others I cannot think of now.  I stopped it and the withdrawal symtoms have been extremely awful going through - it has been a week since I stopped and still am not back to normal - maybe i never will be???

Tired all the time.  Sleep poorly.   Dry hacking cough and I am cold all the time. I can't seem to keep warm.  I doubleup on my clothing and socks.
Honestly, I have never felt so bad in my life.  It all started when I began 50 mg ER Metoprplol in September.

Feel dizzy some times so bad I need to hang on to some thing or would fall .,want to sleep a lot,feel run down. tired, cannot recall my best friends name.eyes blurry & ichy, don't feel at all like my self.

i havie been taking metprolol 3 years; feeling dizzy on and off ,docter doun't know what to do ;i had vertgo also it went away but still fell dizzy when geting out of bed and when geting out of a chair. i think it is metoprolol doing this i am telling my doctor i want to try somethng different.

I have been taking metoprolol for four months.  I just spent 2 days in the hospital with the whole cardiac check out.  The stress test revealed all is ok, for now, with my heart.  The anxiety it has caused me is unbearable.  Shortness of breath, chest discomfort, dizzy, blurry vision, upset stomach are some of the effects I have experienced.  I never had any of these with Norvasc.  While in the hospital, I was given lot's of ativan to help with the anxiety and one 25mg HCTz.  Once I got back home and took the metoprolol, I began to have the same side effects again.  Not only am I not going to take it anymore, I am also changing doctors to help control my high blood pressure.

I have been taking Toprol XL 100 for 7 yrs with no issues or changes in my EKGs. I was switched to the Generic Metoprolol 50mg twice a day 3 months ago. I started experiencing PVCs and stomach trouble. Went to the ER twice because of over 1200 pvc's a day from none the week and years prior. Was told I was fine nothing can be done and go home. I was not fine and it was getting worse. I found a web forum about a Metoprlol recall several yrs ago. People were stating the same side effects I was experiencing. The FDA has ok the the reissued Metoprolol, BUT IT IS STILL NOT RIGHT! I returned to Toprol XL 100 and within a week I was back to normal with no stomach issued and 0 PVCs.
 
 This is just an FYI.

I am experiencing anxiety, and I truly believe it's from this drug.  Anyone else feeling this?

I was started on metoprolol in february this year,i colapsed in the street,was hallusiating badly,faint,dizzy,cudnt sleep,was wheezing & breathless,i didnt know who's house i was in yet im NEVER EVER in anyone elses house,to not recognise my own house & hear voices that was it,i stopped taking it.
Why oh WHY do those drugs affect people in such wicked ways,iv just been prescribed it again,im very depreesed & distraught,wish i had someone to talk to.HELP!...Devi.

i am a 75 year old dav, was given this drug also, amd experienced the same reaction. i quit taking it. it was  perscribed by v.a. doctor.

How did you do when you came off of this drug?

my dad was prescribed the same thing and has the same symptoms he is 81 and I am concerned..have you been able to find anymore info on the reason for the side effects..

I have very occasional Afib (3 -4 times a year) and my MD put me on metoprolol. Three days later I had what I thought were chest pains and was admitted to the hospital for the entire battery of cardiac test. After 3 days I was told there was nothing wrong with my heart, circulation, lungs and I had normal blood pressure and border line cholesterol. But they told me to keep taking the damn metoprolol!!! I have felt weak, depressed and anxious ever since I left the hospital. I'm not strong enough to do my daily hour gymy workout and cardio and my acid reflux has dramatically worsened. I have decided to stop taking this drug....the side effect are driving me crazy!

I just took this for 3 days and i feel veryyyyy dizzy and really tired. Omg thank god I'm not the only one feeling this way.

Taking Metoprolol for about 10 days put me in the hospital emergency room with Brady Cardia, sever dizziness and exhaustion, and rapid weight gain. That was four months ago and I have not completely recovered. I am still exhausted and suffer from lack of balance and am so dizzy that  I have to use a cane to get around. Also I had put on 30 pounds within that first month that I started taking the metoprolol, and now because I can't get around I am still carrying that extra weight. no one has been able to help me. I am frustrated and angry and feel helpless.

metoprolol seems to cause my BP to drop too lw and makes me dizzy.  Also i'm on digoxin 0.125, and amiodarone 200 mg, cummidan 2.5 mg and lasix 20mg.  I am loosing my hair bad has anyone else had this problem with any of this medication?

My entire body is in pain, when my doctor said today , I had a heart attack, I was shocked, I went there because of my pain, now I have to have a cath to find out what happened. This is scary, they changed my doseage. 

Does it hurt in your legs real bad, you can't sleep and your chest hurts? See your Doctor.

The phamarcy changed my doesage by mistake, I had a heart attack, now due for a cath to find out the damage. I was on Tartrate, then succinate by mistake. I was taking it twice a day, my doctor says it should have been once a day. Please Help me solve this so what happened never happens to anyone. 

I have been taking metoprolol for atrial fib and have had wight gain and itching.  I also have muscle pain and feel tired all the time.  It keeps my heart from pounding ,but the side affects are worse tahn my condition.

I am taking metoprolol 50 mg for a week now.  Now my chest feels heavy and I am so tired.  It hurts to breath and I am always out of breath

shallow breathing, swollen hands and feet, leg cramps, crushing headaches, nausea, couldn't eat, nightmares, muscle aches - total body aching.

Tiredness and feeling rteally out of it but forced myself to sustain everyday mild cardio exersise .Really weird dreams and a very low heart rate . I wonder why my doctor put me on thid drug and I have an appointment today to ask.

if a patient has sinus tachycardia at rate of 160 bpm and decided to give him or her Metoprolol. what effect could occure if this drug is adminstered to the patient?
