Mirtazapine

Hi, I just started Mirtazapine in 11/11 because of the sensitivity of my body and how it reacts to medications I had to start at a low dosage (15mg cut into 4 pc. for 3.75mg) I have recently increased my dosage to 7.5mg (1/2 15mg tablet) I have experienced weight gain (20lbs in one month) breast enlargement, blurred vision, angered easily and we just did a blood panel and I am showing elevated liver enzymes more than 3 times the high amount, we have done a ultra sound and my liver looks great I also have no accompanying symptems (i.e. jaundice, dark urine)! However I am also getting low HCT (hematocrit) and feel very tired at times. Low hematocrit is a sign of anemia however I clot just fine and am not an excessive bleeder. I also have noticed swelling in my extremities exspecially my hands. I follow up with the Dr on 2/7/12 to do another CBC.

i have been on citalopram and amatripolineand fluxaitne i have been on 15mg of mirtazapine and tryed 30mg the doc has put me on 45mg and i asked if these tablets dont work what is next hes said shrink as i have tryed all the ones he said but i have had feelings of hurting myself for years but nothing seems to work as for mirtazapine the only thing with me is i take 45mg on night try to sleep my hands feel hot so i cannot sleep i have a couple hrs sleep a night

48 year old male, I have suffered depression all my life. Have used SSRI's for the last ten years with good but mixed results. Last year lost my job due to an episode where I ended up throwing my monitor across the office and have not been able to work since. At the time I was using venlafaxine and had been for a couple of years. Kept on with the venlafaxine but early this year decided, along with the fact I wasn't feeling any better, that it was time to change. Wish I hadn't! Am downstairs typing this because I am afraid to go to the bedroom in case I hurt my partner. Have not thought about suicide for years but now all of a sudden it seems a good idea again and I have planned any number of scenarios. Have rages where I have smashed phones, spectacles and cameras and most days barely contain myself. And on top of that am plagued with constant morbid thoughts about harming the pets and that I may do any of these things and begin to think that it's normal!
Thank you mirtazapine for fucking over my life. Ok, a lot of the symptons I have described have been part of my life at some point or other, but now I have them all at once all the time. I used to be able to manage them but now I can't. I currently using 30 mg mirtazapine but not for much longer. Now that I realised what is my depression and what is mirtazapine psychosis I look forward to just having my own symptoms back.
Sod knows what next though.

Mirtazapine has changed my life. I have experienced no negative side-effects from this drug.
It has allowed me to live my life again, sleep, eat, and stress less. Perhaps this drug isn't for everyone... no medication is. BUT.. for some it is a godsend. I suffer from CPTSD, anxiety, loss of appetitie and insomnia. Along with therapy and determination, this medication has been a useful tool for me to address my anxiety, and stress levels to build a better life. Hopefully, with time this will lead to new habits and new patterns without the anxiety, making this medication no longer necessary. Until then, I definately wont stop taking this Mirtazapine.

@pete - the side effects of Mirtazapine are greater at lower doses (It's odd like that), anyway - after an initial settling in period once you have increased to the correct dose, those symptoms usually disappear. 8-)

the effects on my system where wide and varied first thing i noticed where vivid dreams more to the point night terrors they manifested in a terror-stricken sensation. I could here what was going on around me but was powerless to move I live alone and I am nearly 50years old but I could hear myself shouting for help but there was no one. I felt that if i did not move and soon I would die, then I started putting lots of weight on and have climbed upto 18 stone, then mouth ulcers and gum disorders then to cap it off I GOT WIDESPREAD Paresthesia,I only needed them originaly to help me sleep as my  darling wife of 32 years told me i was surplus to requirements, and that after 15 years as a coal miner,BUT YOU KNOW. I STILL LOVE HER VERY MUCH we where school sweethearts pathetic I know. as for thE mirtaz I have of course stopped taking them.I later found out they are also prescribed for p.t.s.s,and now i'm to embarrassed to leave my flat. anyway let this be a warning to others. thanks for taking the time to read this and get them banned TTFN

I take Atenolol. Ramipril.Atorvastatin.Levothyroxine .Asprin.and Mirtazapine.Also a Glyceryl trinitrate spray as needed.I have dizziness,fatigue,muscle pain I itch at night , also i feel the cold more , sometimes have difficulty sleeping ,feeling anxious .Last night i dreamed i was a wake but a sleep at the same time but could not wake my self up . I have been to the Doc's drop the Mirtazapine down to 15mg . Also i have a frozzen shoulder . The Doc said it will take time ,at 59 how long is time well he did give me another sick note for 2 months .you have got to smile.  on ESA for the last 8 months and still going

im on 15mg mertazapine i heard so much good points and bad points relating to mertazapine, im also on ferrous sulphate iron tablet, can any one please tell me if its safe to take them bot at diffrient time, please thang you

I started mirtazapine last night for severe anxiety.  Slept well, though had very horrible vivid dream that even when i woke it felt like it was still happening.  Very hard to get up. Felt very angry, worried myself more about how angry i actually was as i wanted to hurt myself and everyone arond me.  All day i've felt monged out could not move to do anything. Can't function so have decided i am not going to continue with them.  I was on colpramine for 6 weeks before this and thought the side affects for them were bad but this is something altogether worst-even think i'd rather be severely anxious than feel how i have done so today!!

Hi, I have been on mittazapine for 10 days, sleepy , tierd all the time and slugish in response to conversation just horrid feel gastly , head ace,  The worst went to bed 11pm took the 15mg pill,  went to the loo at 3am and collapsed on the bedroom floor damaging my back, I was told by the doctor my blood pressure had droped to low.  NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Wery tired and sleepy during the day, but suffering from insomnia at night.

Started on 15mg and now on 30 mg after two weeks. Feel absolutely awful. No energy, always tired and getting worse. Giving it a go as i'm told it will get better as body adjusts

The above comment is too stupid, I actually LOLed at you Pete... lol you gave it 2 days and your complaining about the side-effects? and on 15 mgs? LMAO!!! It takes couple weeks at least to cope with the side-effects; just like many other drug. What is this; your first ever prescription medication? Your comment is misleading for others and very stupid.  
 
I was on 45 mgs Mirtazipine for 2 years and even when I stopped abruptly I experienced zero to none of the withdrawal symptoms people are talking about... (but that might just be me, everyone is diff, however I never heard anyone dying from taking this medication. Unless combined with Benzos, pain killers and alcohol at the same time as it will def in that case cause severe CNS Depression and consequently death.  
 
I would take 30 mg at nighttime for anxiety/insomnia and 15mgs in the mornings or after lunch. It is an excellent antidepressant, however you munch out a lot while on it, and you def put of more weight than before you start the medication. So, if weight gain is an issue for you, stay away from this one. Talk to your physician about alternate choices. Probably the best is Welbutrin if you weight is an issue for you. 

I've been on this medication for 7 days (15mg). Right now it makes me verrrry sleepy about 40mins after I take it. I have excellent sleeps, but can sleep 12-14 hours if I don't set my alarm! The only other side effect I've experienced so far, is memory lapses. I'll go to the cupboard to get something, but then forget what I went to get (this happens at least twice a day).

I have only been on this med for 2 days 15 mg.. i feel bad and also have muscle spazems in my left arm and my right eyelid.. headaches and i feel like a zombie... If you are on this med you should get off NOW !!!!!! .

Hi, my name is Tracy I was on Seroxat for over 10yrs and after having suicidal thoughts eventually ended up in hospital. Realising that the seroxat was not working anymore for me was prescribed Mirtazapine at 15mg and then increased to 30mg. After being on 30mg for a few days my body changed over night. Breathlessness, diahorrea, swelling in my feet and legs and excruciating pain, really feeling unwell. Went back to the GP they reduced me back down to 15mg, It didn't make any difference still felt terrible. So I made the decision to come off the medication all together, only been about 2 weeks but feeling much better. Still waiting for the swelling to go down tho. Fingers crossed.

After a nasty experience with citalapram i was advised by my doc to try mirtazapine and it has suited me very well. only side effect i can report is an appetite increase. However as i don't carry much weight that isnt a problem. 

jerk at my legs. couldn't full breath.drowsy but can't sleep.It's very difficult to describe and it's never happen before. it's happen in the first time I take 30 mg of mirtazapine at night.
