Moditen

I was on Moditen in the form of Motival for over 30 years.  It took me 4 years of total hell to withdraw from this toxic drug.  I have been off it completely now for just over two years.  However it has left me with disabling and often cripplings painful muscle pain, spasms and stiffness.  I also get spells of total exhaustion and flu like symptoms and have to go to bed until they pass.  It has taken the two years to get my sleep patterns back to anything like  normal and even when I do sleep the muscle pain and stiffness wakes me up.  Thank god this drug is now discontinued in the Uk.  Unbelievably I was put on it for post natal depression and because it was so difficult to come off was encouraged to stay on it by a consultant which was the worst advice I was ever given. Am so relieved to be off and free of it but do wonder whether my muscles will ever recover but I live in hope.

I was a patient at a psychiatric hospital in 1970, and I was put onto intra muscular doses of moditen. The side effects I experienced were nothing short of terrifying. Within hours my whole body arched uncontrollably to the point I thought my back was about to break. I was given Artane which is supposed to relieve side effects, but it had little or no effect. I will remember that experience forever.
