  • I was diagnosed with IBS…

I was diagnosed with IBS two years ago in August 2008....it's been a long, lousy 2 years.  I've been on many different meds and none of them worked.  Finally nortriptyline (25mg) once a day before bed has FINALLY given me relief !!!  It's only been one week since I started this drug but it's been a week where I can actually leave the house and not worry about my IBS (d) issues.  I'm a 37 y/o male.  Lomotil and immodium have only worked partially for me.  Nortriptyline worked right away (the next day I was issue free - and I'm not exaggerating!)  I wish my doc had me try this drug earlier, although I do understand him wanting me to try other meds first.  HOWEVER, I still take a half immodium every other day with this med. Other than very sleepy for the first few days, no side effects.

  • 48 yr old male, ~190lbs,…

48 yr old male, ~190lbs, started ~4 weeks ago on 25 mg nortriptyline / 1x per day for chronic headaches / migraines.  Very tired first few days to the point where I was sleeping 12+ hrs / day.  Evened out over time.  Now I have bouts of insomnia & light sleep with very realistic dreams.  Also noticed that I'm more anxious / less tolerant to external events so I need to be careful how I respond to others.  Other side effects include dry mouth, inability to focus, tinnitis, and one occasion with minor arrthymias.  I have noticed a decrease in the severity of the headaches which were ~7 most day on the pain scale.  Now days, the headaches are ~5.

  • i'm 18/98lbs. and i've been…

i'm 18/98lbs. and i've been recently perscribed 40mg of nortriptyline.i was given the medication to treat migrane and severe tension headaches. as well as headaches, i also have depression, and severe anxiety.

the first night i took the medication i could not sleep. i had extreemly vivid dreams and experienced sporadic heart palpitations. the next morning felt like i was on an unbelievable amount of drugs (i.e couldn't walk straight, dizzy, blurred vision etc.) for nights after, i, myself, took charge and measured a smaller dosage of the medication working slowly back up to the given amount of 40mg. seemed to work successfully.
i have been now taking the medication for around 3 weeks. i don't belive i'm experiencing any of the side effects, and i'm not entirely sure what psychological/emotional changes have taken place. i'm still depressed sometimes, but theres something about my thought process and initial reactive feelings. im very unsure and confused...not sad, not happy, not okay. i'm nothing. i don't know how to describe it really. but i will still be keeping track of my psychological levels until i am no longer taking the medication.

i have noticed that my headaches are not as severe, and my anxiety has prominently decreased. it feels strange. i've never not had anxiety before.
anyway, just thought i'd tell you how its working for me. hope i could help.
    cheers,
    eff.

  • first off, psychological…

first off, psychological changes do not begin to take effect for at least 2-3 weeks after taking the anti-depresent (nortriptyline). 10mg is the lowest possible dosage, and you shouldn't notice any effect for a while. the only reason why you've suddenly notice your 'changed' emotions is because your entirely aware that you are taking an anti-depressent. im sure that if you were unaware of this new chemical balance taking place in your body, you would suspect no change.

  • Hi Guys I've been on nortriptyl…

    Hi Guys

I've been on nortriptyline for 3 years on a dosage of 10mg and recently upt my dose to 20mg at night. This is to treat my diagnosed fatigue (CFS). The first 3 weeks made me feel hungry, wanted to eat more which was good as my apetite isn't great at the best of times so it was promoting me to eat healthly too. I sleep 12-13 hours a day with rests, I work as a Director and I cannot speak anything but positively about my meds. It has increased my behaviour sharpened my mind and help my joints. Although it is no miracle cure but the results ate worth it. I've noticed a change after 3 months my skin is smoother and softened no harsh muscle spasms in the face but relaxed tensed muscles. Only thing I would say is do not mix with certain hayfever or allergy tabs as they bring drowsey attacks and really increase the symptoms and side effects of your meds.

It's been my 3rd year, 10mg a day is a weak for benefits i've had to up dose to 20 and may go 30 to help light depression. Around my menstrual time they do tend to help however yes, occasionally I'd find myself looking at life negatively be aware this could be your tablets as I often find they can mind alter me within minutes. Mood swings are common place but not ones I can't control. Aggressive behaviour isn't a good thing, but it's benefited me to take action on the difficult
things I have in my life and made me face then without finding myself in a emotional state. These tablets are not addictive and a slow decrease in dosage should be discussed with your GP if you wanted to ween off them.

Hope this helps goodluck everyone. X

  • Hi all, I have been on Nortript…

    Hi all,

I have been on Nortriptyline for 3 days 10 mg at bedtime. It has helped me rest the past 2 nights but I am noticing anger , extra depression and a headache today even at this small dose.
I could not take Lyrica because it made me into a raging psycho woman although it really ,really did help me otherwise, to bad for me.Does anyone know if these two medications have some of the same properties?

    Luck to you all,
    Dancer
