Omeprazole

I started taken omeprazole. I ran out of my Nexum well I started itching really bad as it I had bug bites believe me I will never uses this again. I've never had reaction to a med before

I have been taking the generic form "omeprozole"
20.6 mg twice a day for heartburn, for two months now.
The heartburn is under control, I can fianly eat now.
But can't stop the leg tremors! Fells awful !

I took Omeprazole for 2 months and finally realized that all the muscle spasms/tremors, heart palpitations, not wanting to eat (lost 15 pounds), anxiety/nervousness and general not feeling was from the drug that was "supposed" to help me. THANK YOU all so much for your posts because I was really scared and now I feel like I can rest easy knowing so many other people have had these symptoms and have gotten over them.

Hi Kim, thank you for posting your symptoms. I seem to relate to the random pains. Can I ask you, how long before they were completely gone? Thank you and hope you're all better with that aspect and all else.

I have been taking omprozole for over 10 years and I experience chronic hoarness. My voice previously as clear and resonant. I expectorate much phlegm in the morning.

I've taken Prilosec for about fifteen years, but noticed a problem with dizziness, shaking, and confusion until I'd eat something. Eating seemed to ease those symptoms. I bought a glucose monitor, and found out my blood sugar was very low. Then reading about the common and severe side effects of Prilosec, that low blood sugar was a side effect, I quit taking it. Also, I had lost my sense of taste, and now that has been better, too. I had to change my GERD med., and it doesn't work as well as Prilosec for that. I'm dealing with the blood sugar, and so far can keep on an even keel with that.

I have experienced ongoing pain in all my joints (especially the ankles and hips). I had previously read that Omeprazol can cause this but have asked two (2) Doctors and they say they never heard of it. I was unaware of the hair falling out, but, yes mine is also falling out

I have been on Omeprazole for about a month for Silent Reflux. It worked for that but I have just been to the doctor because I have been suffering from nausea, abdominal pain, light headedness, headaches, bloating and the feeling of small explosions in my abdomin which I assume is gas. I get random pains in all different parts of my body that seem to move around then disappear. I generally feel ill and don't want to eat or drink. He has told me to stop taking Omeprazoleiand after 3 days I felt like breakfast this morning. I still have the abdominal pains but hopefully I am getting it out of my system.

Have the palpatations stopped since stopping medication? I have been on Omeprazole for over a year and my palpatations started a couple months after, they are not there all the time but when they do come on its very scary, it seems my heart beat slows or loses a beat and is very strong, I mostly cough to get rid of it! Also have had lots of spots on head and in nose which started approx 4 months after. Am looking into natural remedies and considering coming off omeprazole as have been on 40mg everyday, have reduced it now to 20mg as am convinced they are my problem... I also have a small hiatal hernia - mostly it works but I seem to get bad weeks

I took it just for 4 days, i felt testis pain.when I left it, I felt normal in my testis.

I have taken omeprazole for several years and have lost most of my hair. I am going to stop taking the drug and talk to my Dr. next month. Until I read your question I never thought that could do it.

I am taking omeprazole almost 1 year.. I got muscle pain.. yellowish color.. and i am not feeling well.. i have a esophagitis that's why i am taking this medicine..

I took prilosec for 2 months. After a month and a half I stated esperiencing hotlashes, hip and back pain but did notrelate it to the prilosec/omeoprazole. The hotflashes and night sweats got very bad and I had to re-consider my use of the medication since it is the only medication I have been taking other than vitamins. I stoped 4 days a go. I have terrible hot flashes and worse night sweats. I am too young to be experiencing menaupause but I am going to make an appointment with my doctor to be completely sure. I believe this synthoms are caused by the omeoprazole. I have done more reasearch and now believe that this drug should not be used for more than 2 weeks at the time. My doctor did not tell me that. I think this should be the number one warning. Do not take beyong the second week! if you really need it take recommended breaks from it.

I took Omeprazole for about 3-4 months and started experiencing hip pain. I have been off Omeprazole for about 1 1/2 months an still have hip pain.

Wow, after reading this I'm glad I stopped taking Omeprazole cold turkey.

I had an incidence of rectal bleeding and had been having an intermittent, twanging pain in my side, not severe and not constant. Blood work and ultrasound tests were normal. While awaiting a colonoscopy, I was put on omeprazole in case the cause was a duodenal ulcer. Within a couple of days the mild twanging pain in my side was replaced by a constant dull ache in my abdomen, side and back. It was worse than the pain that caused me to go to the doctor in the first place. I started feeling generally unwell, lost my desire to do anything and figured things were getting worse. (Prior to taking omeprazole, I generally felt great but wanted to find the cause of the symptoms.)

I stopped omeprazole when I had to do the colonoscopy prep. The colonoscopy showed small ulcers in the colon. I concluded that the omeprazole wouldn't help that, so didn't resume the drug. The constant dull ache disappeared, as did the feeling of general unwellness.

I have been off omeprazole for about 10 days and feel great. I can only conclude that the drug caused the constant pain, unwell feeling and almost a depression type of mindset. No more omeprazole for me!!

Stopped taking omeprazole after seven days very bad pain in the muscles in my legs. Still having pain yet after two weeks of stopping tablets

OMG!!! you are talking about the same symptoms i am having now..this medicine is horrible!!!!

Forgot to add, i chew gum which stops heartburn

An update, It has only been 3 days & my arm pain has gone!!, for anybody suffering similar symptoms to mine this is what i done...1.STOP taking omeprazole. 2. buy plenty bottled water & drink upto 6 bottles per day. 3 eat healthy (detox) i ate fruit, veg, fish, bio yoghurt, rice cakes etc just google liver detox. 3. buy some multivitamin packs (i used mega men performance & vitality). 4 make sure you eat every 3 hrs, even if it's just an apple or banana in between meals. You will start feeling a big difference & feel great & excited because you have your arm power back. Mind you, my arms are not yet fully recovered enough to lift heavy objects but i would say it a couple more days i should be able to. Give it a try, it worked for me & you have nothing to lose (apart from a few pounds)

I have been taking Omeprazole for around 4 years & was not told about what it does to your body regarding vitamins. Anyway, i have just now discovered that the itchy scalp like dermititis has got to be related but the worst effect started around 2 years ago & back then i thought i had just injured myself but this is not the case. I had pain down my right arm from elbow to wrist, this lasted a long time & the doc says tennis elbow. 1 year later the pain goes to my right shoulder, 1 month later, my left arm, 1 week later my left shoulder. I am in pain with both arms i cannot lift a pan without pain. I have stopped taking these in the past week & my shoulder pain has slightly faded. HOW ARE THESE ON THE MARKET

Horrible drug, it makes you feel that you are going crazy or that there is something seriously wrong with you

I took omeprazole for 7 days and some terrible effects from it i.e. tremors, anxiety, palpatations, sleeping problems.  I been off it 5 days and still not 100%. Apparently if you take 20mg it has a life of 20 hours and a half life of 1-2.5 hrs.  Anyone had similar side effects.

I only took it for 4 days and developed the above symptoms. (one 20mg capsule daily). Also felt very nervous and agitated

could the omeprazole be causing sking irritation and the spots that have appeared in my scalp, i was much better when i was taking lanzoperazole

Took one Omeprazole caps 1-25-2011, woke up 5am 1-26-2011 with severe abdominal pain and nausea. Doctors say I have reflux disease, if this is a cure I will stay with the acid reflux.

Omeprazole was great at solving my tummy issues (hiatal hernia, mild gastroparesis, GERD and general discomfort).   BUT.....................it caused my heart to plapitate like crazy and I was waking up at night in a panic.  I had alot of ectopic heart beats, bigemy and trigemies.  I have enough problems and didnt want anymore so I stopped. Really sucks too cause it worked like miracle on stomach.

It makes me feel constantly hungry so I'm putting on weight.

Both arms , upper arm muscle weakness and pain, , dosage 40mg twice a day

After the 1st week I suffered from severe dizzyness, nausea and headaches.  Vomited everything I ate.  Yet around 5pm I would always feel relatively human again.

been taking omeprazole for 6 years. during that time diagnosed with osteoporsis. after reading about this seems any proton pump inhibitor can cause.  so angry with doctor. looking now for new drug,  severe gerd and hiatal hernia.

Horrible taste always in my mouth yucky. Please help

Oh and light headedness most of the time. Wasnt like this on losec. Hate feeling tired and sik all the time. Cant eat many things

My mother is has been taking Omeprazole for years.  At first she had a small twitch in her eyebrow.  Now she has tremors that last for about a n hour.  Her breathing becomes labored, her heart races, and her left hand rubs her right arm while her entire body shakes.  After the tremors she runs a fever and is fatigued.  Can thiis be a side effect of the medicine? 

I am experiencing itching on my arms, rashes on arms and shoulders, hoarseness, slight dizziness, trouble sleeping and mild headaches. I was prescribed this medication for treatment of bloating caused by my hiatal hernia but can find no reference to using it for this purpose?

I haven't had any problems with this medication and I have been on it for a number of years. I take 25mgs in the morning every day and I'm good. I have pretty bad acid reflux, I can't go a day without my meds. I did notice the dry eyes at the beginning and I think that its cause my scalp to dry out more over the years, strangely. Other than that, I'm grateful it exists and its covered by my insurance cause its expensive OTC!

I was prescribed Prilosec after I  an endoscopy that showed that I had a gastritis which was caused by Advil. I was on it for 4 years when I started to have a sore mouth and shortness of breath with exertion(climbing a flight of stairs.) It seemed to be all the symptoms of a Vit B12 defiency. I researched Prilosec and found that it could cause this. I immediately stopped the Prilosec and started an oral B12 supplement. I saw the Dr. 3 weeks later and my b12 was normal at that time, but I had an slightly elevated ANA and he would like me to do a more sensitive test called antiDNA antibody to rule out Lupus. I have now researched and found that Prilosec can cause an elevated ANA. What doesn't this drug cause? I also lost 10 lbs the first week I went off the drug. I'm sure that was caused by the water retention this drug causes. I now eat small meals, take tums and the heartburn is under control. I no longer have a sore mouth and do not get winded. I also went off Restasis for dry eyes because Prilosec also causes dry eyes and that is not a problem anymore either.

I was diagnosed with a Hiatal Hernia and prescribed Omeprazole.  I am experiencing light headiness, anxiety and fatique.  I will be having more tests but hope to find a holistic or organic cure.  I do not like taking drugs!
Do you know of any holistic or oraganic cures?

That is NOT rare. Many that I have talked to have muscle pain. I have to stop taking it periodically due to the fact that my back tightens up quite badly, eventually.

my daughter who is 13 has been taking the tablets omeprazzole she also has weak legs always tiried and stressed have your side effects gone?

I just got it. Ive been taking it for 2 days and i feel like i have mood swings and unusual tiredness. Please tell me if you think this is from the Omeprazole.

i don't know about many other comments. in all truthfulness i used to get like  a reverse burp sounded like a hiccup. i was prescribed omeprazole about 3 years ago and can't say enough about how good it has worked for me. i take 1 capsule a day about 3 or 4 in the afternoon and i feel like i could eat a pile of buffalo wings and my biggest problem would be washing my hands

By day 4 severe leg pain, joing pain and cramping and prior never had this pain. All my muscles appear to be tighting up and going to discontinue this ASAP. I guess I am having a very  rare reation to Prilosec.

I was using Omeprazole for almost 3 years and I believe it has contributed to my hair loss (Alopecia) and I also experienced other issues i.e tiredness, aching joints, mood swings so one month after discontinuing the tablets I feel like my old self again.

I am prescriping OMEZ 20 Mg Capsules by weekly atleast one capsule, Is there any side effects....

I was taking Prilosec OTC (Omeprazole magnesium) after a week, I started having Tremors in my legs and arms. my body was so sore I could hardly walk. It took about about 2 weeks after I stopped taking the Prilosec for the tremors to stop and my body to return to normal. Fortunately there was no permanent damage.

this drug made me feel clouded and confused, and it made my hair fall out. Since I stopped taking it my hair seems like its growing back and I feel like I have my clarity back. :)
