Omnicef

I just landed on this site after doing a search on mood and omnicef in children. Both of my daughters(ages4 and 8) have recently been prescribed this medicine. The youngest has never taken it before but my oldest has many years ago. Our first experience taking Omicef was strange, she had been toilet trained for over a year and a half and started to wet herself during the time she was taking it. Since then I had asked for them to not give it to her again. I had forgotten about that until my 4 year old was given it for a follow up sinus infection(which was first treated with Augmentin and did not go away) since being on Omnicef she's been miserably moody and cranky(not like she was when she was sick, but a whole different kind of behavior). She is on day 14, thankfully the last dose today!. But it's my now 8 year old I am concerned about. Normally a very quiet subdued child she is an emotional meltdown mess! At first I was reluctant to blame it on the medicine, but am now sure that is what it is. Irritable, crying, sobbing, fits, anxiety, aggitation, defiant, you name it! This is soooo not like her. I think it's time they put a warning on this medication!

After taking omnicef my three year old daughter started talking non stop very fast and repeating almost every other sentence up to five or six times-it was so unlike her normal disposition I considered taking her to the er. She appeared as if she was drugged-nothing was different that day from any other day other than taking the omnicef-she also appeared nervous and anxious-it was very scary.

My two year old son was prescribed Omnicef and has horrible night terrors, and extreme agitation. It has been a nightmare.  We will never use again!

My 11 yr old son has taken Omnicef 15mg for two days for strep.  This afternoon he has been violent, kicking screaming, threatening me, thought he was going to throw his bike helmet at me.  Then he threatened to kill himself!  Wish I had read these post before just giving him his third dose!!  I'm tired of doctors not believing that my son is sensitive to so many drugs!

I started taking Omnicef this week for a sinus infection and have been restless and very irritable. I have never had problems like this with any other antibiotic. Definitely will not take again.

i was on it for five days because of strep and i had awful mood swings.  usually  i have no problems with people and found myself yelling at my husband for no reason and loosing patience with my students.  then within seconds i would start to laugh for no reason.  so glad im done with it

I am a pediatric RN.  My son was put on Omnicef after being given Rocephin (1.5gm) for pneumonia. He has been on it before for other things, and each time we've had the same two problems. Extreme sleepiness, and severe aggitation. Yelling, repeating himself over and over, kicking and hitting things. He is a very compliant child and this behavior is only present in him when he is on Omnicef. I called today to ask the physician to place him on a different antibiotic. None of this stuff about behavioral disturbances is in any of the official literature. Why not?  It's VERY significant.

having terrible headachs want take it ever again

Currently taking Omnicef for double ear infection. After taking for 3 days started to develop hive-lke bumps all over. Not hives though - raised oval-like pimples. Not itchy. Feel fine otherwise....
