I got the paragard inserted…
I got the paragard inserted Sept 1st I had a little bleeding that day then cramping for about a week I had my first period in 2 years the last week of September October and November had horrible periods lasting about 7 days. Before I had paragatd I had the implanon a implanted device in my arm, but before that I always had great normal regular periods. December is here and no period, I'm a little concerned I could be pregnant , any comments ? Also I'm not quite sure how to check my strings any help .?

My little paragard experience…
My little paragard experience has been an episode of pain and cramps( somewhat like menstral and labor pains, I feel my uterus contracting at times). The insertion was painfull and i bleed for four days. I have tried to find my strings no luck yet! Oh, I have had my device for three weeks and i have been on a emotional roller coaster..extreme mood swings, trying to wait for my period before I make a decision as of now I want it out. I feel like I have been in some sort of pain via headaches, cramps, and contracting...no not for me just trying to be patient....

I have a blood clotting conditio…
I have a blood clotting condition called Factor 5 liedian that prevented me from taking anything with hormones. So my only options were Paragaurd and getting sterilized. And apparently since I’m ‘only’ 27 and I have no children, I must not know what I want to do with my own body. So no ‘respectable’ dr would sterilize me.
Insertion: The pain was comparable to the first day of my period, but only when he was actually inserting different objects into my cervix. I would say it was about three separate times when I felt that all too familiar ‘kick’ to the stomach. When he was done, it wasn’t bad. I wasn’t nauseous, dizzy, painful, or faint. I was bleeding (more than expected during the last few days of my period). I actually felt well enough to drive myself to work. About 5 hours later I took a couple more extra strength Tylenol and went to bed early. I had regular cramping that continued into the next day.
Three- six months later: day to day, it’s not a problem. However I bleed a little and still have pretty bad cramps when I ovulate. It’s getting old. I feel like I have two periods a month. One normal one and a mini period in the middle of my cycle. The cramping is actually less severe during my actual period, but I would say it starts lightly a couple days earlier (lasts a little longer). Other than that, no problems. I haven’t had one infection *fingers still crossed* which I was really worried about because I’ve had a few in the past (before the IUD). In all, I would do it again. I guess it either works for you or it doesn’t- depends on your body. So good luck! -

I also wanted to add that…
I also wanted to add that Nuvaring, I was told, is the lowest dose of hormones in any available birth control method. That is why I didn't try more pills, Depo, Mirena, etc. The ring already is a low dose, so there's not many choices if I don't want increased hormones (which, for me, would = increased weight gain, increased irritability, etc.) other than condoms and Paragard. Irreversible methods like vasectomies are out of the question because we would like to have children in about 5 years.
Some women's systems aren't bothered much by hormones, but hormones wreaked havoc on my system.
50 pounds is a DRASTIC lifestyle change for me (we're avid mountaineers and always outdoors), as is PMS-related depression and bipolar disorder (I was prescribed antidepressants for use before my period). Being fat and crazy is unacceptable. If you think I'm just being shallow, try giving up many of your favorite things because you're too heavy (I could no longer go climbing with my girlfriends, I was so heavy no one but my male friends could belay me!).
If anyone out there is also very sensitive to hormone fluctuations or artificial hormones, I'd urge you to consider Paragard. I'm so glad I did, we're both so much happier now. What've you got to lose? Except pounds and mental instability? -
I freaking LOVE LOVE LOVE…
I freaking LOVE LOVE LOVE the paraguard.
The PRO side of the coin is extremely important: I'm losing weight and I no longer get totally crazy before my period.
I used to be 110-115 pounds until age 24, when I tried the Nuvaring. Gained 50 pounds in 2 years! And the weight has been stubborn. Then when I missed the insertion date and used condoms as a backup (then deciding to just do condoms to finish out the cycle and put the ring in next time), I lost about 10 pounds in a month.
I was floored by how well my body did without the ring, so I changed methods, to the pill. Slightly harder to remember, and the weight gain stopped, but still didn't budge a whole lot.
I've had the Paragard in and weight loss has been steadily and quickly happening! Everyone, even casual acquaintances, have noticed it. The best part is, it's simply that I no longer feel like I need to eat for two. I used to feel like that constantly. Now, I don't crave unhealthy stuff anymore and it's just nice to not always want to say yes to a snack or office doughnut or something, because I simply no longer want it. It's just so easy, and I'm so, so relieved my body can get back to normal now.
Periods are heavier, yes, but that adjusts in time. Really, as long as I don't get pregnant, I'll take looking like a million dollars if all I have to do is have a little trouble that time of the month (which I normally do anyways).
Another huge, huge plus is that I'm not longer crazy. I used to be so irritable that time of the month, I couldn't even stand being around myself. EVERYTHING annoyed me. I used to snap at family and friends, bite someone's head off, and was just generally unpleasant. There's now much, MUCH less tension in my relationship during PMS, he's no longer walking on eggshells or bracing for a Level 5 raging firestorm just because he forgot it was my godmother's son's anniversary or something. HIS relationship satisfaction has gone up significantly, and that it turn leads to more good moments and more loving gestures to me.
T.G.I.P., seriously. -
I've had it for 5 years.…
I've had it for 5 years. Very effective. It only slid to the side once and was easily slid back by my dr. My periods did get heavier, soaking a super plus in two hours on the first two days of my cycle. However, the cramping is excruciating. I generally cramp a couple days about a week before my cycle starts, then the day I start. Every now and then I will cramp when its not time... If you can deal with the pain its a great contraceptive, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have a low tolerance for pain.... It lasts 10 years which is great; I'm halfway there but will probably have it taken out next month.... I'm sick of the pain.

I've had the paragard for…
I've had the paragard for 3 years. It is an perfect contraceptive, but i have experience excruciating lower abdomen pain and lower back pain pretty much everyday since I've had it. It is painful and very uncomfortable. I wonder if may dislodged???? But this has been going on since the day i got it. I'm going to the doctor next week to either remove it or put it back in place. I've never been able to find my string and this concerns me since I'm always in pain. the paragard has made my period very heavy and last 7-10 days every menstrual cycle... what to do??????

I got paraguard and have…
I got paraguard and have what seems like almost constant bleeding. So it has been a very effective contraceptive because I can't even have sex! How long do I have to put up with this bleeding before it subsides? Other than the bleeding i feel ok but tired because of all the blood i am losing.

I am 33, have 3 children…
I am 33, have 3 children and do not like birth control that contain horomones, which is why i chose paraguard. I have had mine for almost 2 years, my periods are HORRIBLE!! Last about 2 weeks, and mild abdomen pain all the time. EXTREMELY tired all the time, however it has beeen effective in preventing pregnancy thus far. Not sure how long i will keep it in

I have had paragarc for 1…
I have had paragarc for 1 1/2 yr. Overall I like I'm always in good mood. But my periods did get heavier. This past two months have been really bad. Unfortunately I'm having it removed soon. I'm just tired of the bleeding. Im always worried about bleeding thru my clothes. Very effective birth control. Having that peace of mind made happy only if my periods would stop

I just had my paragard removed.…
I just had my paragard removed. I had come to the point where I felt like I was dying and I knew it was due to the paragard. My cycle was every 2 weeks after insertion, massive bleeding for 10-14 days, PMDD 3 weeks out of the month, and severe fatigue (amazingly not caused by anemia). This past month I could no longer feel the lower part of my body, constant pain and severe right ovary pain. As of yesterday I'm already feeling a bit better, happier, no longer bloated or angry, not deeply fatigued upon waking, pain decreasing all over, can finally feel my body! It was horrible. I feel alive again. Unfortunately paragard was a no go for me.

I have had the paragard for…
I have had the paragard for over 5 months and my cycle is coming more often and they are extremely heavy. I have vaginal discharge in between and I am VERY moody. I was never that bad before. I was told to give it a few months and that my periods would hardly be anything. Not true for me. I do not remember anyone telling me about the mood swings, but I have them bad. I have no energy and could sleep all the time. I am planning on getting this taken out as soon as possible! This is not for everyone

I chose to have Paragard…
I chose to have Paragard inserted in Oct. 2010 after trying the Nuva Ring for three months. Something in the Nuva Ring caused a very uncomfortable rash all over my body and I wanted a bc method with no hormones. I'm really happy with my decision. I have never had children and don't think I will want them but Paragard is easy to remove if I change my mind.
The only side effects I have had for the past three months are a slightly heavier period and it lasts a few days long (not heavy the whole time). My cramping has also moved to my low back rather than in my uterus like they were before Paragard. My period is still very regular.
As for the insertion process...I did a lot of research on what to expect and I have some advice for those who may do the same. DON'T spend a lot of time reading about how painful the procedure is. I did experience the regular, uncomfortable feeling of medical tools and the doctor's hand being inside me - nothing that you haven't experienced if you've had an annual exam. I also did several things during the time leading up to the appointment. I took 800mg of ibuprofen every six hours, starting 24 hours before my appointment - per doctors orders. I spent a lot of time relaxing - specifically visualizing my cervix being very relaxed and open. I've read that some women, during natural childbirth, have sex during (or close to the time) of going into labor. Sex being a natural stress reliever (for most) but more importantly, the orgasm opens the cervix to welcome the sperm. I chose to masturbate (as we didn't want to have sex because I was having my period - another time when the cervix is more open) 20 minutes before leaving the house for my appointment.
During the procedure, my husband was there. I held his hand and asked the doctor to tell me when things were going to happen so I could exhale while it was going in. As the first instrument was inserted into my cervix I exhaled, and in my mind kept saying "open, open, open". Yes, I did feel a "pinch" but it was nothing like the pain that I had read other women had. Once that instrument was in, the doctor showed me the Paragard before inserting it. I exhaled and thought "open" again as she put it in place in my uterus. I had to ask her if it was in because I felt NOTHING. I was very impressed. I took it easy during the rest of the day and I was fine.
I suggest the Paragard to anyone and everyone who wants a reliable form of birth control. I can keep this in for ten years - and some studies are now saying that it will be good for twelve years - fabulous!
Relax. Visualize. Masturbate. Hold someone's hand. Exhale. Open. Happy sex!!! -

Melissa,

Yes, Paragard has no hormones.…
Yes, Paragard has no hormones. BUT that does not mean I will not affect the hormones you alredy have. Think about it. It is a device in your uterus that remains there during your entire menstrual cycle when our hormones naturally change. I had it for 6 months after failing with the Mirena 2 times. I was ALWAYS bloated and tired. Got chronic anemia, had 11 day periods with heavy cramps and tender breasts. Lost my libido, got very bitchy and depressed mostly before I was to start my period. My body did not like it. I also gained a little weight. So just be aware that just because it does not contain hormones does not mean it wont affect the ones you have. Do some research and find what's right for you.

I have had it in since feb…
I have had it in since feb 08. I had very heavy bleeding after a few months. I was going through a super plus tampon in less than an hour. Very frustrating. That has slowed down to close to normal again. I am now finding that I get severely depressed when that time of the month hits. Very angry, suicidal thoughts, crying, etc. Has anyone else had these side effects??

I just had my paragard put…
I just had my paragard put in today. It was a bit of an uncomfortable feeling, but overall wasn't a bad procedure. However, the cramping afterwards, was unlike any cramping i've ever had before. It lasted a few hours and am hopeful it stops at that. I'm doing a bunch of research and hopefully i get more insight on what to expect during the first few months of having this.

25 three boys. I have loved it. Only problem is occasional abdominal pains. Tonight after intercourse i started spotting and i am concerned as i have had this devise for several months and have never experienced this. I found out later that many women conceive using this method of birth control so i am wondering if this may be the case with me?? If anyone has any advise it is welcome.
Paragard
don't use paragard if you have a pelvic infection. paragard does not protect against HIV&STDS.
RT @Miss_Phyne: @ThickHERbell @_tiffanyandco_ you ever consider paragard?
@ThickHERbell @_tiffanyandco_ you ever consider paragard?
Kinda blown away that Paragard, which can cause infertility among other things, is approved but raw milk is illegal.
RT @_GirlMeetsW0rld: Just found #paragard is expensive as heck. $450 to be exact. #wooh
"Paragard may attach to or go through the uterine wall, causing other problems."

@Poetic_Beauty88 bc she told me the paragard cost $450
