been on pravastatin for 3 weeks, and now have hives

I have allergies, food and environmental, so I didn't notice when it 1st started. The 20 mg wasn't working, so Dr switched me up to 40mg and BOOM! it got really bad. I'm talking about severe post-nasal drip. It was like a faucet opened in my throat causing a hvy flow that caused severe coughing that got so bad, I thought I would surely die because I could not catch my breath between coughs. I'm talking about coughing so hard, when I could finally get it to calm down (thank God for NasalCrom), my back hurt severely, even all the way down my legs. These severe outbreaks was not often, but the heavy post-nasal drip and coughing was. MY savior was that I got listeria (cantaloupe recall). I got so sick, I just quit intake of EVERYTHING, including my meds. When I finally quit throwing up & started getting better, I realized that the post-nasal drip had stopped. I started eating again, adding one new item a day, finally adding my meds. As soon as I took the PRAVASTATIN, the drip & coughing started again! I let it clear up, that took Pravastatin again, and it started again, leaving me to believe that I am allergic to something in the ingredient make-up of the med, something used as binders, something. I am now off pravastatin. I, too, would rather have quality of life, than a prolonged life of misery.

I have been on Pravastatin 40 mg since June 2011. It started off ok but now I feel like I dont have any quality of life. I take it at night and then I toss and turn all night. I have severe muscle pain in my legs and my joints. I stay tired all the time and I feel weak constantly. I have short term memory loss and i will start talking and forget what i was saying in mid sentence. I either cant stop going to the bathroom or I cant go at all for days. All I do is lay around all day feeling like I have the Flu. The heart burn, stomach pain, and now chest pain has started. I dont care what my doctor says, I am going to stop this medicine and see if i get better.

I have been on 40mg for about 3 wks now, and I have been extremely tired and ache all over. I also have had diarrhea. I have migraines so the headaches and heartburn I get daily just don't seem worth it.

Having same problems while taking Louvistatin ... Doc said stop taking it and then put me on Pravistatin 10 mg... still having all of these problems. Have stopped taken the drug and will try diet and nonsmoking and see if this makes a difference. I too would rather live a quality life rather then quanity bearing all of these side effects.

Been on all statins. Same muscle pain side effects. Before I started Pravastatin, my doctor recommended take 100mg COQ-10 a few hours before Pravastatin. That has been my savior. It is just the fatigue and the inability to concentrate at work. At least I don't have the waist/back/muscle pains and my LDL went down 40pts after just 3 weeks of use

That is how my problems started with this medication.

I was taking it and my left leg started having sever pain. I was hospitalized. Nothing help to take the pain away. Now I have heel spurs and a number of other things in that same leg.

I started Pravastatin 1 month ago and just started having severe heel pain, more on the left side than the right, but on both. Has anyone else experienced this? >:o

I have been on Pravastatin for 6 weeks. I have severe abdominal pain, muscles ache, headache,joints ache,dizziness,fatigue,constipation and vision is blurred. Have an appointment with doctor this AM to see if LDL has decreased. Even if it has ,I am coming off of this stuff. I had just as soon die earlier than to feel like this. I had none of these problems before Pravastatin.

I switched from Crestor to Pravastatin in order to save costs. Pravastatin kept my cholesterol count down, but I have developed minor muscle twitching in various parts of my body. Will this go away? Is there any risk associated with this side effect?

Been taking this for a while now, suffering from Sleep Disturbance, Weakness when lifting things, Sexual problems and joint pain in the Knee's, Hips and Ankles. I played Footbal with my son the other day but had to stop because of the pain in my knee after kicking the ball.

I have been on 20 mg since Jan. And have been having muscle pain in the back of the thighs? Has anyone felt muscle pain in that area. Don't know if it is from medication or exercise

I've put up with horrible symptoms for the last five weeks including joint and muscle pain, bowel disturbances, bad sleep, weekness etc. My doctor's response was that these are side effects of Pravastatin, and I've stopped taking the drug.  Another side effect is a wierd smell that follows me around, but no-one else notices it.

i have been taking pravastatin 40 mg for years , it has lowered my cholestrol and i have not had any side effects , works good

Did stopping the drug help? I am having the same issues after taking for only one month.

I have been taking it for only 10 days. The problems started on day 7. My body aches, very bad cramps in my foot. Very hard to concertrate at work. Mood swings. Tired. Not worth it. I will not take it any longer.

I have been taking it for 1 year and have had no adverse effects.  It has not lowered my LDL as much as I would like however

Just started taking Prevastatin 1/18/11 and have began to feel really weak and also having sharp pain in my left wrist.  I'm shocked to see that others are having the same pain, I thought it might be due to my typing, however, I've not had this trouble before..... 

i have very bad heartburn every evening

pain in my left wrist. i am on 80 mg. i started out on 40 mg and had the same problem but didnt know that was causing it. i dealt with it for a couple of weeks and went away after both wrists were hurting. Now since i started on 80 mg a month ago my left wrist on side of my hand started hurting pretty bad. I dont know if i should just deal with it and see if it goes away or cut back to 40 mg. I dropped from 342 to 240 with 40mg so my dr. increased me to 80mg. I wonder why they're isnt a 60 mg.

I have terrible hand pain which is diagnosed as arthritis now and bursitis - both with rheumotoid basis.  Have stopped the Pravatin but too soon to tell if that is the cause.

taking Pravastatin 6 weeks, and I am sick. Stomach pain heartburn diarreah, sore and weak mussles.. I am stopping today.

I am suffering from loss of memory and inability to draw out words in a conversation.  Has any other person had these problems?

I have been on Pravastatin for about 9 month.  First at 20mg and the past 2months at 40 mg.  After my doctor visit to complain of hip pain she sent me to physical therapy.  That was 5 weeks ago.  Now my lower back is aching.  I can't stoop down.  I have difficulty getting up out of bed or a chair.  I thought it was because of the physical therapy.  The past few days I have felt terrible.  My back aches and I am wondering if I have a kidney infection.  It seem like everything hurts anymore.  Tonight I read some articles on Pravastatin.  I threw out the rest of my pills and I will report back to you on my progress.

Much the same as Loretta's but am now permanently disabled relying on wheelchair and stairlift to get about. In constant severe pain despite being off drug for 8 months.  No dout I shall be like this for the rest of my life, not sleeping and frequently depressed.  Life is not worth living

Did you switch to new medicines that solved the problem  I have same itchy problems

switched to Pravastatin from Lipitor after 2 stents in 2004 - started on 40 mg and eventually to 60 mg and now on 80 mg.  Dr. kept scaring me about my heart issues...today I was sharing statin stories w/friends and decided to check on-line....Have so aches & pains that keep me awake and stomach discomfort, bloating, constipation. that Dr. never contributed to statins...Thanks

Constant joint and muscle pain while on Prevastatin (and other statins).  Especially pronounced in feet, knees, elbows, and hands.  Initially thought it was arthritis until I went off the drug and symptoms vanished in about 2 weeks.  Dr recently put me on Welchol, which seems to have minimal side effects.  We'll see where HDL & LDL come out in a few weeks....

Found this website after looking at Mayo clinic first.  Wasn't satisfied there.  Have been on pravastatin and lisinopril for approximately 3 months now.  Being treated for high blood pressure.

My skin itches every day and I can't stand my clothing touching me.  I keep losing my train of thought and my muscles feel like I have been doing strenuous work and I'm so tired.  Am also taking synthroid adjusted low dose because doctor said my thyroid might be causing my blood cholesterol to be high.

I felt good until I started taking prescriptions for cholesterol.  I tested blood pressure two days ago at Osco pharmacy machine after a hectic morning and it was 101 over 60.

Unbearable joint and muscle pain, vomiting, dirrahea, dizzines, weakness, and sickness.  Could not get out of bed or dress myself for such severe pain.  Stopped the medicine about a month ago, and the pain still persist.  Doctor has put me on pain killers, then added Prednisone along with Tylenol.  The pain still persist.  All the doctor visits and lab tests; tomorrow (5-27-10) I go to a
rheumatologist for evaluation.  The pain still persists--Pravastatin has made an
invalid of me for the past two momths, and I am seriously concerned about
my future.  Where is our FDA?????

I previously had muscle damage been given a statin and a fibrate.  I had to quit.  My latest doctor insisted that I try pravstatin 10 mgs- but at even low dose gives the top of my head a heavy feeling, I'm sleepy, absent minded, and the pain to my wrist and my knee are coming back. I have to quit again. My genetic makeup prevents me from taking stuff like this!! And the doctors are so stubborn about prescribing niacin or omega 3 products.
I'm so depressed. Now the doctor will be mad at me again!!

Ray. Muscle pain in lower back and left leg, severe left knee pain mainly at night after taking one 10mg. tablet.

STOMACH PAIN, WITH NAUSEA AND VOMITING,UNABLE TO EAT MORE THAT A FEW BITES, EXTREAM MUSCLE PAIN & CRAMPING ,REDUCTION IN URINE, DRY MOUTH AND INTENSE ITICHING. WOKE UP WITH SWOLLEN KNUCLE JOINTS AND BLURINESS IN LEFT EYE. I NEED TO RESEARCH ANY OTHER RX FOR SIDE EFFECTS BEFORE TRYING   I WAS READY TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE I FELT SO BAD. THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET AND BEING ABLE TO LOCATE ADDITIONAL INFO ON SIDE EFFECTS.  THE PHARMACY DESCRIPTION WAS NO WHERE AS GOOD AS WHAT I FOUND MYSELF.

 scalp felt like bugs crawling for 2 weeks.  Began 3 days after beginning  80 mg dose.   Then foot and heel pain, followed by pain back of knee and could hardly walk or go up or down steps without one foot at a time to minimize bending of affected knee..

I have to stop using them because I could not even stand still, dizziness all day long, so I don't know if it works or not because the side effects are terrible.
