Prograf

get off the Prograf now if you are having headaches. My husband is now dying from this medication. Had stem cell transplant 1 yr ago. Cancer gone but this medication caused necrosis in his brain tissue. He suffered with a severe headache on Left side of head for 2 months. They finally decided it was the medication and took him off 1 month ago. Too late, he is not going to make it. Demand an MRI on your head and get off this stuff.

My husband died of brain lymphoma and he had been on Prograf for 7 years for a kidney transplant. Has anyone else on here had this same complication from Prograf-lymphoma?

Hi. My husband has been having some strange symptoms. He is on Prograf and the anti-CMV medication, as well as other immunosuppressants. His levels were shown to be high. He would sleep almost all day, but it was not real sleep. He had increasing episodes of opening his eyes half way and talking a little, then back to a deep sleep. 

The worst was once, when he was, "sleeping," and suddenly opened his wyes a little, started randomly talking and reaching for something into the air. He put his finger over his lips in a "shhh," motion, rubbed his face as though he were comforting someone-all while "asleep." 

I told the NP about it, but she thought it was sleep apnea and ambien. But then she had his blood drawn and Prograf was high. She had night dose held; reduced daily dose by 0.5 and within 2 days he had no more weird episodes. 

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

It sounds like he had a kidney transplant for 10 years.  If so was it a relative or a condavar who donated the kidney.  i ask because those kidneys last only 10 years but if a relative donated it will last 20-25 years.

My son has been on Prgraf for 10 years post renal transplant.  In February 2010 he developed massive rejection and subsequent renal failure.  Independent lab tests of the Prograf (1.0mg oral capsules) confirm that the pills were sub-potent.  There was a recall of Tacrolimus in 2006 and a cargo theft in 2009.  This may not be the first of it's kind scenario.  Anyone who is taking Prograf and has had otherwise unexplained rejection episodes should be aware of this information.  There is limited information concerning this incident on MedWatch.
