Ramipril

My Mother was put on Ramipril for hghi BP, soon she developed really bad cough, when we went back to the doctor she advised my Mother to stop smocking and recomended Xray for her lungs, came back ok, later when the cough got worst the dr.diagnosed COPD and prescribed Advair plus all other paffers, they did not bring much relief and I foud it strainge cose I have asma and all the "paffers" are my life line, they work wonders.Soon my Mother develop breast cancer and died.When she died there was a large bottle of ramipril left and I decided to use it becouse my BP is olso high, after taking Ramipril for two, maybe tree days I had the same horrible spazmatic cough,I though"OMG I am sounding like my Mother and then I just new,I never took that med.again, I am doing well on Norvasc, but I have no dout about this side effect and I just wander why so many doctors we have seen in the meantime and no one had a clue,or they don't care especiali when you are a smoker.

I am 48 and have been on rampiril 5mg along with crestor 5mg since the last 8 months. I have been experiencing irritation in my throat, very dry throat and severe cough. at times I suspect this is due to rampiril. I am otherwise fit and have had no health problems.

I am taking rampihil 5 mg a day.
I have a cough. Blurred vision. Dizzy. And i have now had 3 outbreaks of genital herpes since taking it in mid may 2011.
What is your opinion?

just to let you know the only drugs i am on is Ramipil(2.5) once a day and a asthma drug symicort, twice a day, my asthma is well under control..

i have been on ramipril for a year and a half,( 2.5) i have congenital aortic stenosis,which has caused my bp to go up, for the past 8 months or so i have gotten bladder pain, lower abdominal pain which is worse when i lie down to rest, awful back pain, i have had lots of scans, blood tests, one doctor i had refused to do any more tests, he turned his back on me when i was in sooo much pain,(i got another doctor) i have seen a gynecologist, all was well.. i have an appointment with an urologist next month.. all my tests have come back OK except i always have blood in my urine???..anyway i was talking to my pharmacist, and he said that this may be caused by by Ramipril, this could be a very rare side effect.. so i called my cardiologist, talked to his receptionist and i will be switching bp meds in a few days (he is out of town) i will keep you informed as to what happens.. how old is this drug ? i do not want to be a guinea pig for these drug companies....

Aside from auto-bruising and some annoying balance problems the ultimate killer was an attack of light-headedness !!

Incidentally my Doctor at the time refused to even discuss side effects let alone assist in mitigating !!

hi i have been on ramipril about 4 years now. but i am also taking amlopdine"simvastatin"tramadol"naproxen"and lansoprazole.which are causing all sorts problems such as extreme muscle pain and stomach pain swollen eyelids swollen throat rashes. insomia. fatigue. memory loss sfiff joints .ect.ect . i see the doctor he just tells to see a shrink. totally pissed off thank mark

I can sympathise with the back pain i have it in between my shoulders and there are times I could cry it hurts so but my GP says its not the meds but it only started when I started taking these tablets I too have found lots of comments on the internet saying about the pain; also getting terrible anxiety attacks which I have suffered from ever which seem to be worse when I take Bisoprolol manufactured by Almus - anyone else had experienced this?

I'm on Ramipril now for over a month, and I am also having the same syptoms like coughing and had back ache. I don't have a high blood pressure at all. I was told this will prevent high blood pressure as I had narrowing of muscles in one of my heart chambers. I wanted to discontinue the meds as well.

Ramipril Back Pain, Altace Back Pain. Wow! I am a physician and my doctor put me on ramipril. At age 47, I expected aches and pains. But, gosh the pains in my back got worse. I have passed 7 kidney stones. Yikes, horrific pain !! Well over the last 3 years I woke up at 4 AM, with hand pain, joint pain, and a pain running from my cervical spine down to my lumbar spine. The pain was deep in the spine as though the pain was originating in the vertebral bodies. The pain was horrific at times. Needless to say I was in a severe accident that then lead to multiple medical problems and I developed hypertension. With the accident I had a broken neck, broken collar bone, broken shoulder, a small stoke about the size of a pea in the left frontal cortex of the brain etc… etc… Thus when I developed more back pain, well it all seemed to stem from the accident !!! Like I stated I was placed on RAMIPRIL for my high blood pressure. The back pain got worse over the course of 3 years. The pain was horrible. Tons of blood work was done and it was all-negative. I had MRI’s from my cervical spine to my lumbar spine, I went to see a rheumatologist, and several other doctors. Aleve, Mobic, Tylenol, Norco, etc… did NOT touch this pain. There were weekends that I just laid around the house. I never missed work, but gosh, if I were not in private practice and had sick days, there were days I would have taken some days off to stay at home. Thus the pain was so severe, I started to do a search on all the medications that I am on. Of course I am very familiar with the usual side effects of so so so many medications. But I had never really heard of Ramipril causing such significant back pain. Infact in the medical literature, back pain caused by ramipril falls far below the percentage level as compared to placebo !!!! But in my search I found multiple blogs / postings stating that RAMIPRIL caused BACK PAIN. Thus last week I discontinued the medication. I had some strange withdrawal type symptoms, which were compatible with restless leg syndrome, and then boom … in about 3 days my pain was gone. Wow !! Looking at the medical literature severe back pain must only occur in about 1 in 5000 people taking ramipril. Very unusual but it is real !! This is my 10 bucks worth of information out there. Spoke to several of my M.D. friends and asked them about this. No one had ever heard of this. My neurologist never new of this, the rheumatologist never new of this. My pain management doctor never new of this. Now I do NOT need a pain management doctor !!!! Wow !! There were days where I came home from the office and just laid on the sofa until dinner. I am posting this to disseminate this information. The back pain from ramipril is real. The back pain from Altace is real !!!

I used to get sever stomach pain and I used to put it down to Storvas. I did not know this was the culprit. I used to double up with pain and even PantodacDSR woujld not work. I had to throw up to get relief. I think when I stepped up my exercise, the issue subsided and I am now taking this everyday

I had very similar symptoms and would even double up with the pain. Would only easy when I vomitted. However, now I do get the gas attacks and bloated feeling, but the body seesm to have got used to it

When i started taking ramipril 6 years ago, i have developed lots of fluid build up in my lungs and i cough every day for months and my doctor never told me about the side effects the ramipril and the water pill could cost you, and until i started seaching the internet, i find that the side effects of the pills and it scared me. Now i stop taking the pills as of today.

My aunt took Ramipril for hypertension and within weeks of starting the drug developed dry cough and breathlessness.  This became progressively worse until she was hospitalised with fluid on the lung, breathlessness and lung inflammation. She was diagnosed with drug induced interstitial lung disease and now suffers chronic breathlessness which is being treated with steroids.  Has anyone else suffered similar side effects? If so, what was the treatment and was a complete cure achieved?

I was prescibed Ramipril in Feb. 2010.   Not long after I started to have indigestion and after cooking my stomach would become rigid which made me relauctant to eat.    In July the nausea started with stomach pain.   I would wake in the early hours and then have pain and sick feeling.   My bowel movements changed.   I had blood tests and ultrasounds and they were all fine.   I wondered if it was the Ramipril and one doctor told me to stop it for two weeks.   After sixteen days I noticed some impovment.   I then had a colonscopy and gastroscopy done.   Fine apart from inflammation in the stomach.   It is now October and I'm not fully well.   Still experiencing sickness and ill feeling although my bm's have normalized   And last night I finally slept for my than three hours.   I have lost mega weight and still find it hard to eat.   I generally have to force it down.    I have no evidence to support that it was the Ramipril but I do believe it within myself as I felt poisoned.   Just wondering how long it will take to leave my system.    Must add that I am also having jerking a twitching of my body and limbs.

I get the same dry throat this is a common side effect.

i have a very persistant dry cough which seems worse at night

I have drowsiness, and continous headache inspite of consuming one ramistar 2.5 H tablet per day. My Vitamin B12 count in blood was lowered to 90 ,normally it should be 1000 . But still it gives me some comfort , And I have to consume it.

Ramipril is excellent - it brings down my pressure.  The only issue i have is when i sleep in the middle of the night i get such bad dry cough and than i have to take a small bite of Fisherman tablets which controls my cough.  please let me know if this is what usually happens when taking this capsules Ramipril.

I have developed severe dry cough as a result of using Ramipril for the hypertension.
I have to stop using this drug because of the side effect. :'( :'(
